About this property
Kwaaiwater Heritage House - on the ocean
Staying at Kwaaiwater Heritage House is special; a once in a lifetime experience. For over 100 years she has graced the Kwaaiwater Promontory, at one with Walker Bay and the beauty which surrounds her; Chatelaine of the rocky cliffs, fynbos reserve and sandy beaches in her domain. Situated at the end of a quiet cul de sac and distant from the busy roads, there will be no unwanted noise to disturb you. There is a pedestrian gate on the sea side of the house which leads you down a private walkway to the acclaimed 13km cliff path.
From the front door you enter into the sea-facing south wing which boasts spectacular, unobscured views from every room, timeless rolling waves, rugged rocks and misty mountains. During the whale season you can view the whales from all these rooms. To the left is an enclosed verandah with spectacular views of “Maanschynkop,” one of the surrounding Cape Fold Mountains. Guests can relax here in the evening and watch as the mountain turns pink in the reflected glow of the sunset.
The house offers a spacious lounge with two separate seating areas, one around a cosy fireplace, the other looking out over Walker Bay. A small patio on the the east side is the perfect place for an early morning cup of coffee. From the lounge you can walk through double French doors into the baronial dining room with its gleaming mahogany 12-seater table. A large seaside patio with comfortable seating plus a dining table and chairs - ideal for an al fresco lunch and a glass of chilled wine - can be found next to the dining area. Across the passageway there is a cosy TV room cum library with plenty of books to read, or to do some C-suite work.
The large "eat-in kitchen" with tall teak units and integrated appliances is fully equipped with all the necessities - gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, air fryer, dishwasher, filter water, ice maker, coffee plungers, Nespresso machine, 4 slice toaster and TV. The sea view from the kitchen window will make cooking a pleasure.
Two sets of French doors lead to an enclosed pool courtyard where the wind seldom blows. Comfortable loungers surround the pool, and there is built-in seating plus a large sandstone dining table and chairs. It's the perfect place to barbecue/braai.
The house can accommodate 11 guests and has 6 bedrooms. The main bedroom on the first floor has a king-size bed, full ensuite bathroom plus a private lounge, reading nook, TV and a small patio. The view from this room stretches from the east to the west, giving a dynamic view of ocean, mountain and fynbos. Leading off the main bedroom is another large room utilised as part of the family suite with two single beds plus a lounge (convertible sleeper couch for emergencies) with TV and study area. This bedroom is connected to the main bedroom via a small kitchenette with microwave and under counter fridge and shares the main bathroom.
On the ground floor the gleaming original antique pine flooring welcomes you to the bedroom section of the north wing. The first door left enters to a small third bedroom with a single bed and en-suite with shower, and view of the pool. The next bedroom in this wing offers two single beds with pool and sea views. The original bathroom of the house, one door away in the passage, is the private bathroom assigned to this room. The large bath is one of the most comfortable baths imaginable. On the right at the end of the passage is the large fifth bedroom in the house, with king-size bed (easily convertible to two singles), and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. This room has mountain views. A sixth bedroom is located in the south wing of the house and boasts a queen-size bed, and a small, private lounge with French doors opening onto the pool courtyard. This room has it's own cozy bathroom with shower.
Leading off the pool courtyard and separate from the house is a first-floor games room with lounge, TV, a small fridge and mini kitchen. This architecturally unusual room with panoramic views is a lovely spot for family activities: a game of chess, a few hands of bridge (cards and bidding boxes), jigsaw puzzles, Lego, books for kids and more books for adults. A small bathroom completes the unit, and the shower can be utilised as an “outdoor shower” if you need to wash away the sand and salt after the beach. At the bottom of the games room is a laundry with second fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and iron.
Kwaaiwater Heritage House is fully walled and the gate is automated with an intercom to the house. There is a garage and space for 3 cars within the driveway, plus another 4 in the cul de sac outside.
The house has an alarm system connected to Fidelity ADT with armed response and portable panic buttons are available. An inverter for power back up, free Wi-Fi, DStv, Android TV and Netflix, a safe, and fans are available in the bedrooms.
Quiet hours are between 10pm and 8am.
Total number of occupants will not exceed the quoted number unless agreed.
All trash and perishables must be disposed of and dishes washed before departure.
