About this property
Old Lion Cottage - Two Bedroom House, Sleeps 4
This characterful cottage dates back to the 19th century and is part of a small terrace that looks out over the open countryside to the front and marshes to the back. Ideal for a couple’s getaway or family escape, it also welcomes dogs. The quaint village of Thurne is in the heart of the Norfolk Broads and is only 8 miles from the coast, so you’re well placed to stride out on any number of excellent walks (with many bird-watching spots) or spend days on Norfolk’s beautiful sandy beaches. After a day outdoors you can stroll to the local pub, less than 200 metres away, while the iconic Thurne Windmill is less than 0.5 miles – well worth a visit. Rent a boat for the day from Potter Heigham (5 miles) and float along the waterways, or head to Caister-on-Sea (7.5 miles) for a fun-filled day out.
The cottage has been sympathetically restored and updated, boasting a combination of period features and modern comforts. Hang up your coat in the porch and head into the lounge/diner, where a large brick fireplace is home to a wood burner – perfect for snuggling in front of, on the two comfy sofa's on a winter’s evening. There’s a Smart TV here too, as well as a DVD player with a choice of DVDs, and a selection of books and games. The farmhouse-style dining table has plenty of space for four people. In the kitchen, you’ll find a ceramic sink, wooden worktops and a retro-style fridge/freezer – a bright and pretty space in which to prepare delicious holiday meals, with a breakfast table for two to enjoy a morning cuppa. From here, stairs lead to the first floor and the two pretty bedrooms, both with traditional-style cast-iron beds. They share a delightful family bathroom.
From the kitchen, you can step out into the enclosed back garden, which features two patio areas with furniture as well as a BBQ. Beyond them is a lawn with a rotary clothes dryer, and you’ll also have off-road parking for one car at the rear of the house.
