About this property

La Casita De Tucson - a Unique Private Getaway W/Pool & Spa. Close to downtown

La Casita de Tucson is a unique private getaway for up to 4 adults. Our guesthouse stay includes a hot tub & counter-current pool and a large deck for picnics and sunbathing. Great view of the Catalina Mts from the pool area.

Our casita is large (1200 sq. ft.). While it has one bedroom / one bath, we also have a comfortable queen size Aerobed for an additional 2 people.

Located in the foothills of the Tucson Mountains, our guests feel the spaciousness and serenity of the Sonoran Desert and enjoy the beauty of our surrounding mountains and star-filled nights. But we are only 15 minutes from downtown and 25 minutes or less to the University of Arizona and several golf courses, including Quarry Pines & Starr Pass. Silverbell, a well-maintained muni, is only 10 minutes away. Good restaurants are about 15 minutes down the road.

The furnishings and decor are definitely Southwestern comfortable. The main room has a high-end home theater with 56' HDTV, Blue Ray DVD player, and built-in surround sound. Here you will find an extensive library of CD's and DVD's. WiFi, of course.

There is also a large bookshelf of Travel, History, and Brain Candy books to suit most everyone.

The bathroom has a beautifully tiled walk-in shower. A shower bench seat is available. Fresh linens & towels provided.

La Casita has its own backyard, patio, and BBQ. Our guests enjoy interesting grounds, including cactus gardens, a rose garden, a mission fountain, and three patios with many strange and fascinating plants. Laundry can easily be arranged. The washer/dryer are in the main residence. Just ask.

La Casita is perfect for those who want to visit Southern Arizona's many attractions, such as Bisbee, Tombstone, Titan Missile Site, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Air and Space Museum and our excellent history museums that illustrate the area's rich Native American, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo heritage. Several fine Indian Casinos and many hiking trails are nearby.

Our website is Southern Arizona Guide. Here you will find our recommendations for best dining, things to see & do; plus lots of local history, original videos and photo features. Should you be here for one of our regularly scheduled guided tours you may find that of interest too.

We have a new dog, Dozer. He only has 3 legs, but don't tell him. He doesn't know.

Relaxation at its best

Karen’s lovely casita is just what you need for a relaxing get away. Well stocked with games, books, comfy blankets and pillows. Also a beautiful garden and Mountain View from the porch. You won’t have any problem finding something to do (just ask for recommendations) or doing nothing at all, if that is what you need. Enjoy the stay.

Outstanding property in a quiet, desert country setting

La Casita is the ideal VRBO. Set on a fabulous 3 acre lot in the hills outside Tucson with mountain desert scenery all around. The property is spacious and very well equipped. The terrace is ideal for enjoying an evening drink while the sun sets. Our host Karen was outstanding. She was available when we had questions and great fun to chat with! We shall return!

Nice quiet respite

Staying at La Casita is especially relaxing as the casita is on a 3 acre lot that feels totally secluded in the desert, but is five minutes from Sweetwater Preserve and a couple miles further to Christopher Columbus park and dog park near the Interstate. The casita is spacious, both the living room and the bedroom. Our second time there, so yes, we would return!

Relaxing Desert Winter Visit

This home was extremely cozy and comfortable for my whole Tucson visit. Karen was an outstanding host and her pups were quite the crew of characters too. You may need to check your pulse if you've never soaked in a hot tub under a starlit night sky in Tucson at Karen's place because you have not lived until you've done so. Her property lands perfectly balanced on the edge of town leaving you peacefully immersed in the desert while being a stone's throw from grocery stores or restaurants. I look forward to my next visit to Tucson and stay at La Casita!

Beyond Expectations!

La Casita is beyond words, beyond photos, and beyond any review we read before booking—it truly exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness by our incredible host, Karen, whose hospitality and insider knowledge of the area, made our stay even more special. The casita is a dream—beautifully designed, impeccably clean, and perfectly suited for two people looking for a peaceful, private getaway. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create a relaxing and inviting atmosphere. The outdoor spaces are just as wonderful, offering stunning surroundings, a soothing spa, and the perfect place to unwind.Adding to the charm, the host’s three friendly dogs brought so much joy and fun to our stay! They were an unexpected highlight and made the experience feel even more like home.If you're considering La Casita—book it! It’s truly a hidden gem, and we can't wait to return.

Peaceful Desert Weekend

We had such a relaxing, peaceful weekend at La Casita. The property had everything we needed and was in an excellent location....away from the city but not too far. My favorite part of the trip was spending the morning on the back patio with my coffee and the numerous birds that came to visit every day. The owners were excellent communicators and I enjoyed chatting with Karen about the garden and the grounds. I would stay there again and highly recommend!

Quiet get away in the desert.

This is a beautiful casita in the desert. Communication with Karen was fantastic, and she went out of her way to make my stay pleasant. Including everything you could need for your stay. It was very quiet, private and close to mountain parks and hiking. I can't wait to go back. Still so much in the area to see. Very highly recommended!

Perfect Location, Perfect Casita

If you love hiking, a sweet dog, fantastic evening views, and great, kind hosts, this is your place! Karen and Jim are gracious hosts who have a terrific knowledge of the local area, and the casita is wonderful - it was better than we hoped. It is private and nicely situated on the property to provide cool shade when you need it, great sunrises, comfy furnishings, with a home theater system that is beyond expectations. The property is a stone's throw from the Saguaro National Park, which offers nearly unlimited hiking and moutain biking. Enjoy your stay!

Lovely Casita in the Tucson Foothills

This is a perfect place for a couple - very attractive, with lovely garden setting (and plenty of birds!) to enjoy the Tucson sunrise and sunshine. Much better than a condo somewhere. We liked being outside of town but only 10 or 15 minutes to the best restaurants and sites. Jim and Karen were very helpful but not intrusive. Nice shower, large bedroom and nice home entertainment system when you wanted to watch a film or a game. The booking was straightforward.

Fantastic in every way.

Beautifully appointed casita and gardens with lovely views. Very enjoyable to watch the quail and other birds outside the kitchen window as meals were prepared. Covered terrace was perfect protection for enjoying the winter sun. Lovely views of the sunrise, the skies, the desert, and the mountains. Hot tub perfect for night sky viewing on a chilly desert night. Great selection of movies, games, and books. Home theater/entertainment system was beyond expectation and easy to use. All was clean and well maintained. Karen was charming and accommodated our every need as well as trying to anticipate any others we might have. Definitely planning to stay here again and again and again if available.

Relaxing spacious casita for two near Sweetwater Preserve

We found that the Casita met our needs very well and exceeded our expectations, The casita itself, well-stocked, felt airy and spacious with the tall ceilings and enough room in the bedroom for both reclining chairs and a desk. Outside Karen has made a great cactus garden with a flagstone walking path through it. One of the branches of the path leads to the hot tub.... We found the hiking three miles away at Sweetwater Preserve to be very good for a daily go-to hike, no need to drive to the national park. Jim and Karen were as knowledgeable as one could ever find (they run the southern Arizona Guide website) and were great hosts and folks to talk to. Two thumbs up!

Wow! What an amazing Anniversary getaway!

This Casita was a wonderful pick for my husband and I to spend our 24th wedding anniversary ❤️ this place is perfect for a couples getaway. To be perfectly honest we had a hard time leaving to go and explore. Waking up and having coffee on the back porch overlooking the beautiful garden and watching the birds was a wonderful way to relax and unwind. We enjoyed a concert I surprised my husband to go see his favorite band Puscifer. We drove the Saguaro National Park not far from the Casita. The next day we drove to Tombstone and Bisbee and enjoyed a piece of history. Our last day came way to fast. We loved our stay, made wonderful memories ❤️ Dozer is and added welcoming bonus! Everything is well stocked for cooking. Bathroom has what you need if you forgot your bathroom bag goodies. The bed was comfortable and nothing my husband and I slept very well. The hot tub and the stars at night was also very relaxing. We will be back! Thank you Karen and Dozer for making our stay welcoming and cozy in the beautiful Arizona desert!

Lovely!

This lovely casita will "wow" you! It's just far enough out of town to enable you to "feel" the desert, but close enough to amenities to make it easy to take advantage of all Tucson has to offer. Lovely space inside and out, and the owners are so kind and accommodating. A special shout out to Dozer, the real "gem" at the property. Hope to return someday soon! Thank you!!

Owner Jim Gressinger is a retired newspaper publisher.

Ms. Karen & I retired to Tucson in 2003. Currently we publish SouthernArizonaGuide.com, a content-rich website with over 100 dining reviews; 50 original videos & dozens of slideshows about the most interesting people & places in Southern Arizona; our recommendations for the best things to see & do; plus a lot of local history & cultural heritage. Last year we had over 500,000 visitors to our website.

We do have advertisers on our website. Our rule is simple. If we cannot wholeheartedly recommend your establishment to our friends & family, you cannot advertise on Southern Arizona Guide.

Our dining reviews are as objective as we can make them. Seldom does a restaurant owner or manager know that we've been to his or her establishment until a week or two later when we publish our review on Southern Arizona Guide or on our Southern Arizona Guide blog.

I almost always take other with me to do a review. The deal is simple. I pay for the meals. They each have to order something different so we can sample a broad spectrum of menu items.

On our Southern Arizona Guide, there are restaurants, attractions, and other places that we DO NOT recommend. For the benefit of our website visitors, we are serious critics, not like you will find elsewhere.

Why they chose this property

Our casita is roomy & comfortable. It has its own back yard with cactus garden. But our guests can enjoy all of our other gardens such as the rose garden, and the Anniversary Garden outside the Casita bedroom.

Our guests have no sense that there is a major metropolitan area anywhere nearby. Yet, it takes only 15 minutes to get to the Historic District of Downtown Tucson and 22 minutes to the University of Arizona.

What makes this property unique

When we have no guests, the Casita is our den and home theater. Our guests may take advantage of our music & theater system.

Another advantage of staying at La Casita is that very few locals know the area as well as we do. That's not bragging. It's our job. Our guests take advantage of our local knowledge. The best hiking trails, the best museums, the best art galleries and performing arts, etc. We love sharing our local knowledge. It's what we do.
