About this property
Grange House - sleeping 5 guests in 3 bedrooms
A historic house on the Nunnykirk Estate, close to the attractive towns of Rothbury and Morpeth.
True to the historical tapestry that is Northumberland, Grange House was formed by the fusion of two 18th-century cottages – the oldest amongst the cluster of buildings to be found on this storied estate. Its name references the monastic grange which once lay in its footprint, recalling a faraway time when Cistercian monks walked these hills.
Today, the house is a quintessential country home which invites easeful gatherings of friends and family. With its airy living spaces, cosy furnishings, and contemporary bathrooms, guests here can enjoy a perfectly pitched combination of creature comforts and rejuvenating wilderness.
Wander up the path through the garden and enter a small hall through the main door. To the left you’ll find a large kitchen and dining area, which leads into a large boot room and ground floor WC. Off the hall to the right lies the welcoming living room, where a plump corner sofa encircles a warming electric stove and wall-mounted TV. Through this room lies the study with a desk serving as the ideal writing spot, while a games table is poised to host many a round of whist or gin rummy.
Upstairs you’ll find the three bedrooms, all bright and bathed in light through numerous original sash windows. One bedroom benefits from an en suite while the others are served by a family bathroom, complete with a large bath for soaking tired legs after long days spent exploring the surrounding countryside.
Outside, the enclosed lawned garden is a safe space for children and dogs to stretch their legs as you look on from the patio table, which is also joined by a barbecue so you can dine al fresco on summer evenings. Alternatively, a football table and dartboard can be found in the games shed so you can while away an afternoon should the weather be inclement.
Tucked away off the drive to Nunnykirk Hall, Grange House enjoys a peaceful setting between the rural Northumberland villages of Wallington and Cragside, with nearby Rothbury home to an excellent delicatessen and butcher. You can walk from the doorstep along two miles of private drive, or there are fantastic walks in and around the area from leisurely riverside and forest ambles to more challenging walking routes exploring the raw natural beauty of the Northumberland National Park. The area is home to several foodie festivals and events, while Cragside, a nearby stately home with a busy events schedule, has many family-friendly activities to enjoy.
