About this property
The Old Whelk House sits right on the Quay of Wells-next-the-Sea
Take a break and escape to the North Norfolk coast. Book a stay in this delightful little pied-à-terre sitting right on the Quay of the charming and ever-popular resort of Wells-next-the-Sea. Relax, breathe in fresh sea air, and drink in the fabulous view from the comfort of your armchair as the day unfolds. Step out of the front door, stretch your legs and explore all that this charming town and its beautiful, expansive beach have to offer.
The Old Whelk House is found on the town's quieter East Quay, and is cute as a button. A traditional ‘upside down' seaside cottage it is perfect for a couple or solo traveller looking for a coastal vibe and an easygoing lifestyle, with everything conveniently situated right on the doorstep. With expansive views across the marshes from both levels, the open-plan living area is on the upper floor to maximise the breathtaking scenery. Enjoy watching the tide come and go, see the quay come to life throughout the day, observe the stunning birdlife that visits year-round, and experience beautiful sunsets in the vast Norfolk sky. On the ground floor, a double-bedded room awaits at the end of the day, with a nearby bathroom on hand, equipped with both a bath and shower available, to refresh weary, tired limbs. There is a handy utility cupboard with laundry facilities on this floor too.
The south-facing courtyard garden is a sunny spot, ideal for the first coffee of the day or a sundowner as the sun sets. Just a short level walk away, Staithe Street is the hub of this colourful seaside town, with a plethora of independent shops, including boutiques, cafes, eateries, delis and a well-established local butcher. The nearby picturesque Buttlands Green is surrounded by charming Georgian properties. Take a seat here to soak up the ambience, or pop into one of the two hotels that overlook the green to enjoy a drink or meal. Amble back down to the Quay to sample some of the best fish and chips in the area, or try your hand at gillying for crabs. From the Quay, beautiful Wells beach is a mere fifteen minute walk away.
