Town: The village of Dalston sits within the Carlisle district of Cumbria, historically part of Cumberland. In the village square lies the red sandstone church of St Michael's, dating back to the 13th century, whilst Dalston Hall is a magnificent Grade II listed building full of character and landscape gardens, which is often used as a wedding venue. About two miles south of Dalston is Rose Castle, the palace of the Bishops of Carlisle, which is not open to the public but may be viewed from the road. Carlisle can be reached in four and half miles, a 2000-year-old city with two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one World Heritage Site, plus lots of pedestrianised shopping areas, award-winning malls, colourful farmer’s markets as well as a traditional Victorian indoor market. Dalston also provides good access to the beautiful North Pennines AONB and the Lake District National Park, making it a great base for outdoor enthusiasts.
