Region: From rolling countryside to historic cathedral cities and traditional seaside resorts, Lincolnshire offers a peaceful alternative to the discerning holidaymaker.
Town: The ancient village of Donisthorpe lies on the Derbyshire/Leicestershire border and just a short drive from the picturesque Derbyshire Dales. This former mining village has a thriving village pub, one of the oldest buildings in the village, a Post Office and shop and is ideally located in the heart of the National Forest close to many chocolate box villages and interesting towns. Nearby Burton upon Trent is a town straddling the River Trent, made famous by its breweries, and home of many award-winning ales. Alabaster carving, cloth working and manning the cotton mills are all central to the town’s history. The small market town of Market Bosworth is just a short drive away, home to the Battle of Bosworth, with an excellent visitor centre at the battlefield site. It has many amenities, including small independent shops, pubs and a renowned fish and chip shop, all located around the market square. There are many historic sites and places of interest such as Tutbury Castle, the Old Marina, the Bass Brewery Centre and the Claymills Pumping Station. A good touring base with Twycross Zoo, Drayton Manor, Alton Towers, Belper, Matlock and Ashbourne within an easy reach, as well as Calke Abbey and the cathedral city of Lichfield.
