Longshore Drift is a delightful four bedroom eco holiday home, situated a short stroll from the Jurassic Coast Path to the west of Weymouth. All the rooms at the back of the house face south and have sweeping views over green fields to The Fleet lagoon and Chesil Beach beyond. From the comfort of an armchair unwind and watch the landscape change its colours as clouds roll in off the sea and scatter the sunlight. In a storm see the seagulls playing in the wind and waves crashing over the top of the beach. As a one-off new-build the house is thoughtfully designed with practicality in mind – open plan living spaces for families and friends to come together, and quiet spaces to retire to relax and enjoy the views. Built to the highest modern insulation standards and incorporating many eco features this is a comfortable retreat year-round.
With plenty of parking, Longshore Drift is a perfect base for a seaside holiday, walking or cycling the dramatic Jurassic coast, sailing in the safe waters at the UK’s National Sailing Centre or exploring villages and towns dotted along a coast steeped in maritime history. Located on the bus route from Weymouth to Axminster, there is no need for a car; set off along the coast path from the house and take the bus back home.

Garden
The garden is recently planted with three large planters designed for perching on, young hedging plants on either side, and a simple fence marking the boundary with the farmer’s private field beyond. We are discovering what deer like to eat. Turn either left or right out of the property and there are footpaths down to the shore of The Fleet and the route of the Jurassic Coast Path. (Don't worry, the distant firing range has not been used for many years!)

Bed linen and towels, provided. Please bring your own beach towels.

About the property:
Brand new eco property, with open views across green fields to the Fleet and Chesil beach.
Finished to high standard, spacious and super-insulated for warmth and sound proofing.
Experience what an environmentally friendly modern house can be, with a heat pump, solar panels, heat recovery ventilation and triple glazing.

Great facilities. Garage to store your beach gear. Outside sockets for car charging (EV charger to be fitted in future).
Space for two or more cars on site depending on size, or free parking on other side of road.
Balcony to chill out with great views.
Large deck area for basking in the sun or eating al fresco.

We are still working on what equipment and facilities we need, so if you have any requests or questions please ask.

Note: The garden area is newly planted, hence the wind and deer protection for the young plants, which appear on some of the photos. As the hedge matures this summer we will aim to remove the netting, but not sure when.

About the host:
Passionate about using science and technology to help save energy. Enjoy the luxuries that the modern world has to offer but don't waste energy.
We had this house built and did a lot of the work ourselves, but focussed on exceptional insulation to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer.
We shall retire here one day but want to share it and the lovely views with others first.

About the neighbourhood:
Superb location for exploring Dorset. On the main coastal bus route and only a few minutes from one of the country's best sandy beaches in Weymouth.
Or explore the famous Jurassic coast, taking in Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Portland Bill and Chesil beach with one of the country's best wind/kite/wing surfing areas in Portland Harbour, home to the 2012 Olympic sailing centre.
Visit the beautiful tropical gardens and famous Swannery near Abbotsbury, the huge Maiden Castle hill fort or dozens of scenic villages around Dorset. Don't forget Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast, for views around the whole of Lime Bay.
Great local facilities, Co-op and eateries 200m east. Aldi 400m west.

We are new hosts so very happy to answer questions. Some dates may be reserved for our personal use but may be flexible, so please ask if there is a date you really want which is already booked.
Also please ask if Saturday-Saturday does not suit you. We can be flexible about other days and lengths of stay.
If there is any equipment or features of the house which we can arrange to make it more appealing to you, please ask. We have rented many holiday homes ourselves over the years but our needs and priorities may not match yours, so we will do our best to improve what we offer to suit more people.

What makes this property unique

We are fortunate to have a plot on the edge of town with uninterrupted views across grassy fields to the fleet and Chesil beach, but very close to local facilities. This is a new house built to standards way beyond current building regulations and achieving an EPC rating of 97%. We are all electric with and air source heat pump, mechanical heat recovery ventilation, solar panels and under-floor heating, so this is your chance to see what all new houses should be like.
