CHICKENS & ROOSTERS
The City of Key West protects chickens and roosters, and considers them as part of the history and charm of Key West. As a result, Key West and many of the islands throughout the Florida Keys have free-range chickens and roosters. You will definitely see and hear chickens and roosters during your stay in Key West. Some visitors to Key West love them, and some visitors hate them - personally, I enjoy them best roasted, with plantains, and black beans and rice!

CRITTERS
Also, please remember that you are in the tropics and most life forms typically thrive in the tropics. Please don' t be surprised or alarmed if you see a lizard, or an insect.

-Room smelled moldy even before air conditioners were turned on. We bought our own air fresheners. -Rugs were extremely dirty. Needs to be upgraded. We rolled them up. -Pillows on all the beds were old and smelled bad. Needs to be upgraded. We didn’t use most of them and then put towels down on the one we did use. -Washing machine was not clean. Dirt blocked the drainage of within the liner. maintenance issue. -We were locked out on the last day. The cleaning lady was beyond rude to us. Treated us like a thief as she and behaved extremely unprofessional. Pretty shocking. Management laughed in our face over the issue. -This place is very expensive but high standards aren’t being kept up. Waste of money.

Quaint little compound in Key West!

Overall, we had a great time at this quaint compound. On a whim our friends bought Willie Nelson tickets & our planned trip to Key West to celebrate a milestone birthday got bumped up a few months. Luckily we came across this compound of places to stay. Initially we booked the Cigar house but soon realized the sleeping arrangements wouldn’t be suitable for two couples. I later found the Conch house on a different site. Based on the photos online it was very similar but had a bedroom with doors vs a bed at the end of the living room. Steven was very helpful with the cancellation and rebooking the Conch house. Both places were great and we were happy with our choice of the Conch home (the couple staying at the Cigar house let me check it out). We went with close friends and it didn’t bother us, but just a heads up, to get to the bathroom you have to go through the bedroom. The hot tub off the main pool didn’t always work but we made due. The other hot tub was working and we were invited to use it. We cleaned the pool too, no big deal for us, just an FYI. The location was great. We walked everywhere, including to see Willie. I have read some reviews about the location being sketchy west of duvual street but we felt safe at all times. Loved the roosters too! We would definitely come back. And we will be sure to save some Breakfast for Rachel! Thank you Rachel & Steven.

Key West - Fantastic in February

Not much more one could ask for in a vacation cottage . Walked or bikes to do almost everything . I would stay at Bahamas Gardens again and recommend it to anyone .

Had a fun time in Key West!

This property is nice and in a great location in Key West. The communication with the managers was very punctual/organized and they were very nice too! The bikes are very handy for getting around the island and are a huge time-saver.

Good location but rooster heaven

For the price and location this cottage is ok, if you don’t mind waking up at 4am every day by the damn roosters. You’ll need more than earplugs and it goes on all day so no nap! They are protected and everywhere on the island. They wander freely and you will be fined if you hurt one. Not even sure the big hotels can avoid this problem. As far as the cottage, it is just ok. The fourth person will have to climb to the loft on a very steep ladder. Also the handle fell off the kitchen sink spigot. We called but it never got fixed. On the positive side, the linens, towels beds were clean and comfortable. We didn’t use the pullout sofa so I don’t know if it is comfortable. So if you’re not deaf or a very heavy sleeper, the roosters will wake you anytime. By the way, this island is VERY expensive. I’ve traveled a lot and been to expensive places in US and Europe. Key West is at the top of the list!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!

FANTASTIC place - INCREDIBLY convenient, beautifully decorated, extremely well maintained, and incredibly peaceful atmosphere and 'feel'. I loved it. Easy check in...easy check out. No issues what so ever. I have stayed in a LOT of places in a LOT of cities - this would probably be the ONLY one (ever) that I would go back to...and that says a lot as we always try to 'change it up'.

I travel as often as possible, with my beautiful partner (who completes me) - we always seem to gravitate to water and interesting places. We enjoy historic settings, renovating old buildings, good people, and a nice bottle of wine (...or two).

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood is alive, dynamic, and surrounded by Key West History - unquestionably the most intact Old Town Key West neighborhood on the island. There are excellent restaurants within walking distance, and Duval Street is only two blocks from the property - close enough, yet far enough away! Ft. Zachary Taylor, located only two blocks to the west of the property, is a National Historic Park and boasts the nicest beach with the best sunsets on the island.

What makes this property unique

Local character is preserved. Authentic Key West experience.
