Just a wonderful place to getaway with family or friends. I love that they include the kayaks/canoe for having fun out on the lake. Feels like your own private corner of the world (unless the neighbors are home, but even that's not too bad). I love the privacy of the lot, the access to the lake (you will get a work out walking up and down the yard!), and the proximity to town is quite convenient. Can't wait to come back again!
The actual house was even better than in the pictures. It was well-equipped; we had everything we needed.
Even on a rainy day, we found ways to enjoy ourselves with the games provided by the owner (and our own too).
The property is very private, and having direct access to the lake is excellent!
Very nice stay! Beautiful lake view and easy access to fun days out in the lake.
We had 2 small kids so the spiral staircase from top to bottom was a little challenging for them! So many fun games and activities right on site!
Would love to have had maybe a set of larger bowls (when you have a crowd to feed) in hand l; otherwise fairly well stocked.
Love the seclusion at the end of a road:)
This house was exactly what we needed. The pictures are accurate. The house was located on a cove that provided an easy paddle to the main lake. Fishing and kayaking were great. The house was well stocked. The owners were great! We had no issues, but they were leaving as we arrived and went the extra mile to make sure we were all set!
Peaceful stay on a beautiful lake! Fished everyday - Lake easily accessible by kayak. Lovely well maintained home. Comfortable beds. Marilyn is a gracious host. Really enjoyed our week here!
The home was as advertised. The available games and equipment provided unlimited entertainment for both young and old. Traveling north to the Clarksville area we enjoyed the hiking in Occoneechee State Park and visiting the antique shops. The Lake Mayo Park was interesting and permitted us to swim in the cool waters.
Very relaxing place to get away and just hang out with family. Game room provided hours of fun when we were not on the dock fishing or boating on the lake. We only left to hit the store for food. Great Place!!!!
With the oppressive heat, it was nice to have the basement for some cool down time! Took the canoe and kayaks with the kids out to the main lake one morning for a very peaceful ride. House has everything you need.
Home was clean and the perfect size for my family of 4. We did have my inlaws come up for 2 days and with 6 of us there it was tight on space but doable. Plenty of ganes in the basement to keep us entertained during the bad weather. The internet was ok but if you are trying to worl remotely it tends to bog down. Kitchen was well stocked worh dishes and pans. Our only real complaint was the listing said it had a gas grill when it was a charcoal grill. We have never cooked on charcoal before so we had to google plus go out and buy charcoal and lighter fluid. The cove is ideal for life at the lake. Its quiet so the kids could swim, fish, padel board, kayak, and our boat wasnt being tossed around by wakes all day long like weve had at other homes. We enjoyed it so much we had planned to go bavk in July sadly the dates weren't available.
We loved staying here! We got married and needed a place for all the bridesmaids to get ready and for pictures of the dresses! It's a beautiful place! She was awesome and answered all questions and was helpful! Would definitely recommend
I loved the house and location. It was super clean, well decorate, and with a fantastic view. It had pretty much everything that I needed. The hosts also were very responsive. The towels were extra soft and the bed was very comfortable. I slept in the loft while the rest of my family occupied the other two rooms. The house is in a very quiet and private place yet it is only 10 minutes from Roxboro. Access to the lake, the dock, darts, the pool table/ping pong table, deck, grill, kayaks, fire place, etc. make it an awesome place to relax. I very much enjoyed my morning coffee with a fantastic view of the lake. I only wish we had more time there. We got unlucky with rain but the house had internet and netflix so we ended-up watching some movies. I had to contact Marylin upon my arrival because the storm knocked out the smart TV service. She and her husband responded within few minutes and I got the TV working again based on their instructions. Overall, I highly recommend this place and I am very grateful to the hosts for great set-up and letting us use it.
The house is exactly as described, with a great view of the lake, three big bedrooms, a cozy loft, and a cool game room downstairs. The pool table and darts provided hours of fun, and the property was easily accessible. The only things that kept this from being a perfect stay were slight issues with the water. The water pressure left a lot to be desired in the showers…seriously more of a trickle than a stream. The water also has a strong odor of sulfur either from iron or from the water heater.
Beautiful lake house, very peaceful setting. Lots of magical touches throughout. Having 3 levels and 3 full bathrooms was wonderful. Gorgeous view. Darts, foosball, ping pong and pool table kept the teens happily occupied!
Lovely property and perfect weekend retreat for us all, parents, adult children and their partners. Great fun kayaking, fishing, swimming, dinner on the deck overlooking the lake and a visit to Tunnel Creek winery an added bonus. Short drive to Roxboro which has plenty of shops and restaurant choices for every taste. Definitely recommend this place.
Nice large place. Located right on the water. There’s a nice front yard with grass. The back is sloping and mossy with an easy walk to the dock. We forgot our paddle board paddles (among other things) so it was nice to have the kayak and canoe to get out on the water. The dock was nice. It was unseasonably cold for our weekend so we appreciated the option in the games room. Bring your own board games. The place was pet friendly on the main floor. We really didn’t go up to the loft or in the basement. Thankfully our dogs steered clear of the spiral stairs. Believe the advertisement said covered parking space but those spaces were full with trailers. Neighbors are close by but you still have privacy and a lake house feel. Sitting on the back porch offered privacy.
The only disappointment was the kitchen cleanliness. The counters and table had food residue, were sticky and had cup rings and the fridge shelves had food residue on them. The only cleaning product was a sponge and dish washing soap. Bring your own dish towels. It also may have said to bring dish towels and I missed it. I forgot my cleaning wipes and there was nothing under the sink to use to clean. Took me a while to find a broom to sweep all the pollen off the porch so we could sit out there and send the pollen back outside from the doorways. It was not advertised to have cleaning products available but with the cleaning fee, I expected it to be clean when I got there or at least set me up for success. Lesson learned. Overall nice place in a nice location.
Our family loves spending time outdoors. We settled in the area about 13 years ago. We decided to share our home with guests to provide the same opportunity at a reasonable price.
Why they chose this property
We wanted a getaway from our busy lives, but relatively close to home. We love fishing from the dock or the canoe. The cove is quiet and private, but we enjoy kayaking around to view the wildlife or heading toward the main lake to experience more open water.
What makes this property unique
Mayo Lake has a protected shoreline. No permanent docks and limited public access to the lake. Quiet area with abundant wildlife viewing, but not far from all the Triangle area has to offer. This property is for people who want to escape and enjoy time with friends or family. It is meant for those who are looking for simple joys.
