About this property

Riverfront Mt. Rainier/Crystal Mountain Chalet

Nestled in the woods on the White River near Crystal Mountain ski resort and Mt. Rainier National Park, you have every amenity to make your stay a memorable one. Head out your door for mountain biking or forest hikes to cascading falls and alpine lakes. Then treat yourself to burgers and beer at the historic Naches Tavern or huckleberry ice cream at Wapiti Outdoors just down the road. Whatever your Northwest outdoor pursuit, the Alpencommune is your haven in the middle of it all, yet under an hour and half from Downtown Seattle or SeaTac Airport.

Soaring ceilings and expansive windows frame the beautiful surroundings of this three-level chalet. Wood stove and solid cedar construction fend off the winter chill, while abundant skylights open to draw in summer light and air. Expansive decks overlook the river for grilling, dining, or relaxing outdoors. A loft master suite, four additional bedrooms, and three bathrooms comfortably accommodate up to six adults and four to five children.

Great Time In Greenwater

e really enjoyed staying in this home. It was very comfortable, and well stocked with kitchen and bath items. Great central location between Rainier and other cool hikes in the nearby area. The deck is a nice place for a cup of coffee, or a meal in warmer weather. Overall, very quiet and relaxing.

Great house for a family get together

Our multigenerational family group thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The house was exactly as advertised and is a great location for visiting the mountain. We especially loved hanging out on the deck watching elk wander by.

Wonderful spot!

We spent two weeks at this cabin with family, enjoying the surrounding mountains, spending afternoons on the deck, and going on hikes in the area. This was the perfect home base for us and had everything we needed and more. The host was so communicative and answered any questions we had quickly. We would happily stay here again!

A Little Slice Of Heaven

This must be what heaven is like. Serene and beautiful. Birds flying over pine tree tops, deer drinking from the river while you listen to the river flow. The smell of smoke coming from the chimney. We are in love with this space. Spacious and has all the necessities.

Awesome Cabin near Crystal Mountain and Mt. Rainier

We loved this cabin! It's location on the White River and near skiing and outdoor recreation is perfect. It is very cozy and the entire family (including the dog) loved it. The host, Alex, was super responsive and helpful. I highly recommend this cabin and hope to go back!

Family Vacation

First time at this property. It is in a great location and beautiful view of the white river. My son found the Sand bar on the river to be a great place to Propose to his girlfriend ( she said yes ). We had plenty of room for all 10 of us. Highly recommend.

Listen to the river

This property is very nice. We had 2 babies (under 1), two small children and 6 adults. It was cozy, especially in the kitchen, but we had a wonderful time. There's lots of extras in the kitchen (seasonings, hot cocoa, baking supplies). AND there's an extra fridge/freezer in the garage. The kids loved the outdoor play structure. We really enjoyed the serenity of the White river, close enough to hear, but no danger of anyone falling in. The view from the upstairs is amazing! Loved this place!

Great inside and out

Loved mornings on the deck and evenings around the outdoor fireplace. There were issues with mice indoors for last couple of days, probably compounded by having dog food bowls. The hosts offered traps and exterminators and were quick to respond, thank you for a great week.

Nice place but problem with one of the rooms.

We had 3 adult couples and some kids staying for a ski trip. One of the rooms for the adults was noisy because of uninsulated plumbing. .

Comfortable cozy chalet

We loved everything about the chalet. It is close to Crystal Mountain for a relaxing gondola ride and to Mt Rainier for amazing hikes from Sunrise. The chalet is comfortable for 10 people and well-equipped with ample supplies and special amenities to make it welcoming. It has a new barbecue grill, comfortable bed/pillows, new bedding and linen, ample books, an outdoor play area for children, and an entire closet of books and games for children. The wide deck facing the White River is a wonderful space for barbecuing, group meals, enjoying rivers sounds, collecting rocks, viewing the elk herd and watching sunsets. We would have given the chalet 5 stars but discovered it is not safe for any child under 3 years of age because of older building codes that allowed for wider stair rails and wider decking railing through which a child can fall. We would love to come back next year to relax at the chalet again and hike more Mt Rainier trails.

Couples annual get away

Loved our time at this mountain retreat. Our group consisted of three couples and no children. The host was exceptionally communicative throughout our reservation process and stay. We had a couple of questions prior to checking in and they always responded within the hour. The house was very clean and abundantly appointed with glassware, dishes and all utensils needed to prepare our meals and beverages. The kitchen area was smaller than we anticipated and was a little cramped for six adults (particularly since you have to pass through the kitchen to exit the house) but we made it work without any difficulty. The house is very close to the Sunrise entrance to the Mt. Rainier National Park. Highly recommend a visit. Don’t forget the required prearranged reservation pass. When exiting the park we saw a couple of cars who were denied entrance because they didn’t have a timed entrance reservation. Only $2 online at the nps website. We were visited daily by elk, either walking the banks of the White River, or passing directly through the front yard. Be sure to visit the community of Greenwater. Ice cream, beer, fun! It was very warm during our stay and the house stayed very comfortable as long as you closed up all windows and skylights before the late morning heat arrived. There are no river views from inside the house so we spent as much time as possible on the back deck enjoying the sights and sounds of the White River. We highly recommend this house. We will be back!

Family Trip 2024

The location is wonderfully secluded. The wildlife and river are beautiful. The play set and outdoor toys are a major asset to have for the littles. There are plenty of dishes and spices and extras. The host even had a small cooler for us to use, which was really nice for day trips with young children. The children’s playroom is wonderful and well stocked. The grill was nice as well. The home is spacious and worked well for our family! The master bath isn’t really functional as a ‘full’ bath since a small child cannot stand up in it, but we used the shower on the main floor. The home needs a good deep clean; it was pretty dusty, even the floors and surfaces of furniture. There were lots of cobwebs everywhere, hair in the bathtub drain (not ours) and the bathrooms need to be fully stocked with towels and washcloths so guests don’t have to go track them down. We pulled dirty dishes from cabinets and there was laundry in the dryer, in front of the dryer in baskets and on top of the washer and dryer. Not sure if we were between seasons or if the home hadn’t been stayed in for awhile. We enjoyed our stay but would recommend a DEEP clean before next guest. The quiet neighborhood was glorious! The views from the decks are spectacular. We loved the large recycling bins on site too. It is close to several places to take hikes with beginner hikers or small children. A great place to relax, unwind and spend some very quiet and peaceful time away!

Family reunion with hikes

Great place to relax and reconnect with family, especially after a long day of hiking. With the sound of the river in the background we ate our meals, talked on the deck, and built new memories…

Perfect getaway!

It’s hard to imagine a more perfect location than this house! The seclusion, trees, and river make it a perfect and relaxing retreat. The home is well equipped, clean, and cozy. The check in process was super simple, the owners were communicative, and the location (plus the proximity to Mt. Rainier National Park) can’t be beat! This house made a wonderful vacation home for our family. We so enjoyed our time and we’ll definitely return!

Juneuary vacation did NOT disappoint!

Alex was a fantastic host! My husband and our three adult kids came out from Virginia for an epoch vacation! I didn't do my research and found out too late that June is a bit early for much hiking at Mt. Ranier. However, it was also not crowded. We chased the sunshine around the state and got to visit San Juan Island, Olympic National Park, hiked three nice day hikes in Mt. Rainier and had a day in Seattle. The cabin was so wonderful to come back to after a damp hike - the woodstove made everything so cozy. We saw elk across the river one morning, as many reviewers had mentioned. I cannot say enough nice things about the area and the cabin itself. There was plenty of space and the kitchen was well equipped. Having the crock pot was a life-saver. The beds were very comfortable! The scenery and the alpine cabin were a huge hit! Thanks, Alex, for making our experience so incredibly special!

Fantastic home with river sounds and plentiful wildlife

I can't say enough good about this property. The home is beautifully maintained and provides plenty of room for a large group. The game cupboard is well stocked (including several puzzles with all their pieces!) and has a lot of good fun activities. Check in/out was as easy as it gets. The host answers any questions quickly and completely.

Cozy and Relaxing Retreat

This quaint property was warmly welcoming and accommodating for all of our needs; with plenty of room for three of us to spread out and make full use of all of the amenities it had to offer. We enjoyed both decks throughout many points of each day and loved that the river was so close-by. We were one of the lucky ones to see the herd of elk stroll by as mentioned in other reviews. The property is set back from other homes with the added security of other families nearby but yet still able to maintain its privacy. The temperature never dropped to the point where we felt we need to use any of the wood burning stoves; instead, the mild weather allowed us to open the windows and skylights and enjoy the breeze and sounds of the rushing river. The kitchen was sufficiently stocked for four days of morning and evening meal prep. We took the advice of the site manager to grab groceries in Enumclaw before driving the additional 20/30 minutes to the house. If you’re looking for a nice home base to relax at after a day of hiking Mt Rainer and surrounding areas, this is a great choice. We would definitely stay again on our next visit to the area.

Great location

It was a great place to stay with together with family while in Washington for our daughters wedding nearby. There was plenty of rooms, they had a great selection of toys and even an outdoor play set. The stairs and home decor was a bit challenging with 3 toddlers but we managed it. I would recommend this place to others and I would gladly stay again if ever needed.
