Relax at the Mystic Seahorse Cottage on Gwynn's Island!

Welcome to our quiet corner of Gwynn’s Island! Walk to the beach, relax in the backyard, ride a bike, kayak, or book a fishing excursion; there's so much to do here. The cottage is clean and stocked with everything you need for a relaxing visit. Drive 10 minutes to Mathews for great restaurants and shopping, or an hour to Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg. Come relax and enjoy some Island Time with us!

The Seahorse is a mysterious-looking creature that appears to float around coastal seas with a grace and level of perfection that pulls in observers and admirers from all quarters of society. The Mystic Seahorse Cottage, like its namesake, is a mystical and graceful retreat near the coast of the Chesapeake Bay.
Mystic Seahorse offers our guests a semi-private backyard with a large deck that has plenty of seating including a patio table with umbrella. You can relax in the hammock or swing, then roast some marshmallows over the fire. A picnic table offers more outdoor dining space. There’s a tree swing both the kids and adults will love. A full-size Weber charcoal grill is readily available for grilling, and we keep the charcoal and lighter fluid stocked for you.
The game room in the garage will make a great hangout on rainy days or for relaxing after a day at the beach. You can play a round of pool, challenge your friends at electronic darts or try your hand at the slot machine.
If you’re headed to the beach, you can use the wagon in the garage to easily take some beach chairs or a cooler with you.
Our cottage has two bedrooms, one queen and one full. Both beds have memory foam mattresses with down toppers. All linens (sheets, blankets and towels) are provided and washed after each guest to insure a clean fresh experience. There is one bathroom which has a shower/tub combo.
In the living room we have a wicker living room set offering a couch and loveseat. The entertainment center holds a 32" FireTV with sound bar. You have full access to our Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ accounts, as well as many free show and movie apps. For more entertainment there is a Blu-Ray player, XBox One system with games, tons of movies and plenty of books to read. The library of movies and video games are in the cabinet under the TV. We have excellent WiFi so you can feel confident working remotely while here.
The kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, Keurig, and double sink. You’ll find plenty of glassware, plates, bowls, silverware, pots, pans, etc. We make sure our guests have paper towels and napkins, as well as tea bags, coffee pods, cream and sugar. Just off the kitchen is the sunroom with a bar height table for four and chair with ottoman. Sliding glass doors take you to the back deck.
We have a washer and dryer in the garage guests may use if needed.

You have full access to the whole house, the garage/game room, front yard and semi-private backyard. Our guests have access to the community beach that is located within walking distance of the cottage. You also have access to our dock where you can launch a kayak or canoe, sit with a cup of coffee or the children can crab. Our dock is located on the property of our other rental, across the road in front of the Mystic Seahorse. ALL OTHER DOCKS ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY INCLUDING THOSE ADJACENT TO THE BACKYARD. You will need to walk in front of Starlight Inlet (mobile home) to the path of the dock. Since the dock is on the property of our other vacation rental, Starlight Inlet, please respect their privacy when going to the dock.

Our maximum length of stay is 7 nights with a 2 night minimum. House rules include no pets, no parties and maximum of 4 guests.
We live right next door to the Mystic Seahorse and we are home most of the time if we aren't working. If there is anything you need feel free to walk on over or send us a text and we'll be right there. If we are out of town or at work we will do our best to offer solutions. If our guests wish to socialize with us we would love to get to know you, but we also respect the privacy of our guests and will never intrude.
The Island is generally quiet as there are quite a few summer homes especially around the cottage. The Mystic Seahorse is at the end of a private road. If you like to walk, our area of Gwynn's Island is a great place to take a stroll. The Island is also a great place to ride your bike. We have four adult bicycles waiting for your use! The Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grill is right on the water, located next to the public boat launch. Excellent food, great service and the views are amazing!
Mathews County is a quaint area with a Food Lion, two dollar stores and several great restaurants. You will find plenty of thrift/antique stores and boutiques. If you like canoeing or boating then Mathews County is the place to be.
Mathews County is a great central location if you wish to visit attractions in Hampton Roads, the Northern Neck, or Richmond. We are located an hour drive from Colonial Williamsburg, 45 minutes from Yorktown, and approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours from Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Richmond is also an easy 1-1/2 hour drive. If you like antiques and thrift stores there are numerous stores within an hour of the Island, and of course history buffs don't want to miss out on the Victory Center in Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, as well as the Mariner's Museum in Newport News and Nauticus in Norfolk. There are numerous wineries and breweries to visit in the area, most within an hour; just ask us for recommendations. Like antiques and flea markets?
