Loved the lake and the size of the property. The kitchen could have a few more things (spices, tin foil etc). No stairs down to dock could be problematic if you have a baby or have trouble walking at all. Great lake and loved the canoe.
We stayed during the winter season for icefishing and the house was right on the lake which was perfect. We had some issues (not regarding the property) and when I contacted the owner she was able to come out and save our butts! I am truely thankful for her help!
Beautiful lake, cabin was semi-clean, needs a deep clean. Cabin has a strong, musty mothballs smell( not pleasant in my opinion). For the price that we paid per night, I felt that firewood should be included. We had some cold, rainy days and the inside electric fire sound like it was going to blow up so we had to turn the stove on to warm up the place. Barbeque that they provided was not in good repair and was full of cigarette butts.
Loved our stay at Hathaway House. Beautiful location, unbeatable view. We really enjoyed the provided canoe and spent all day everyday on the quiet serene lake . Lots of trails to explore for bikers and ATV as well . Very quiet area. We will be returning next summer for sure.
Wonderful time at Hathaway House. The cabin was very cozy and clean and lots of space with a beautiful view of the lake. So glad to have family time away from the big city. I would certainly recommend this cabin to friends and family.
Due to the wildfires in the area and the evacuation alerts/orders in the area, we were unable to visit the property. We waited to see if the orders would be lifted, but they were not. Lynne was most helpful and communicative throughout and kept us informed of the situation. We will rebook and try to visit in the future.
Thank you for letting is stay at your wonderful property , we had a very enjoyable time and everything was great . we will definitely be back for sure . the communication was great from start to finish. the Fire pit was great with nice views of the lake . We were lucky enough that we brought our own 20lb propane tank for our BBQ and we were able to use that in the gas firepit provided on the main Deck .
Hope to stay soon again
We used the cabin for a fall fishing trip. Our fishing was cut short due to snow but the cabin kept us warm and dry. Thank you Lynne it was a great stay.
We had a really nice stay here. The place is huge. We're a family of four and we had loads of room. The standout feature for me was the wrap around balcony on the main level. You can barbecue and take in a grand view of the lake from there. My 10 year old really liked the kids room in the basement, and my 12 year old spent a lot of time fishing around the dock. He caught quite a few fish, too. The firepit in the yard was another highlight, and a great place for everyone to go after the sun went down.
Communication with the owners was great, although honestly I didn't need to communicate with them about much. Everything went smoothly. The hardest part was finding all the light switches when we moved in. Even that was kind of fun..
Great VRBO! Excellent value in this property! The stairs down to the dock need a little work. The dock is awesome and new. This property and lake is very quite and a great gas station and store is only 15 mins away. If you want a great vacation that’s nice a quiet I recommend you book this wonderful place.

Fun for all ages!
The cabin is cozy and spacious with various areas to sleep in. An added bonus was the kids area downstairs where they could play games and romp around. The lakefront view was spectacular, especially during a couple of thunder storms at night where we would view the lighting under the covered deck. The kids loved hanging out on the dock with two ducks that visited daily. Not to mention catching dragonflies, frogs and fishing for minnows. They even have a canoe that we were able to enjoy. The fish weren’t biting as much as we would have liked but we did manage to have three fish dinners during our one week stay. They were delicious. Best we’ve ever had in fact. We had a few visits from a friendly fox and even caught glimpses of a local bear. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. Highly recommended. Thank you Lynn and Henry. We hope to make it back next year.

About the host
Hosted by Lynne and Henry VanLaarhoven
We are a retired couple with kids and grandkids that visit every year. We retired to the Cariboo because of the rugged beauty, peaceful lifestyle and the wonder of nature. We absolutely love it here!
Why they chose this property
This property is the only private residence for rent on Hathaway Lake. The lake has crystal clear water suitable for swimming, boating, fishing, skating in the winter and more. The property is easy to access with paved road all the way but still a private natural wonderland to play in. It is only 4.5-5 hours from the Fraser Valley which is an incredibly beautiful drive through the Fraser Canyon.
What makes this property unique
This home is situated on the hill looking down over the lake with your own private dock for swimming, boating or what have you. The house has been recently renovated and provides 2 huge decks to relax on while watching the kids play. A childs playroom on the lower floor also has a seating area where adults can monitor children while enjoying a view of the lake and wildlife. There is even room for your dog (conditions do apply). This is a peaceful but exciting get away for the whole family.
