Great Spacious Cabin

This is one of the cleanest, well furnished cabins that we have ever rented. We rent a cabin ever year and this one pleased everyone in our group. Plenty of sitting areas, games, TV's, comfortable beds and wonderful windows with great views. The only complaint I had was a smell when you first walk into the cabin. It smelled like cat urine but could have been from the rug on the floor in that room.

Amazing!!

This cabin is absolutely beautiful. The picture does this cabin no justice, you have to see it in person. The river next to the house gives it a calm feeling. The sound of the river flowing is so relaxing. We loved that we were roughly 20 mins from Cherokee and Waynesville. We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Also, the owners were very responsive to our messages. Plus, there were instructions on how to use the appliances as well aa the hot tub.

Great location, beautiful home

We had a great time at this property. Conveniently close to downtown Maggie Valley. Kitchen was well stocked. Internet was a little slow due to being in the mountains but still usable. Cable worked fine. Good communication from property owners. Amazing views! . If you’re planning to use the bunk bed room, know that it is connected to the second King bedroom and does not have a door/it opens into a hallway adjacent to the kitchen. Also, you have to take the trash to the City Dump in Lake Junaluska. If you’re traveling East it’s on your way but if you’re going home to the west factor in extra travel time.

Nice Stay In The Mountains

We had a nice stay at the lodge. The trees and weather were beautiful. We were surprised and a bit disappointed to find there was no hot tub at the lodge even though it was listed and the owner has not mentioned it had been removed. That would have been a nice feature after long days hiking and with the cooler weather.

Beautiful house and furnishings, cleaning issues

Lots of positives about this property, but several negatives, too Positives: Inside furniture and particularly furnishings were excellent, high quality. Excellent linens. Beautiful location with mountain views and a small stream running at the edge of property. Excellent kitchen with every electric appliance known to man. Lots of dishes, serving utensils, pots and pans. All excellent quality. Lots of spices, condiments, flour and sugar, salt and pepper. Negatives: Internet terrible. Cannot watch anything without downloading it first. Cannot watch a video on YouTube, constant buffering. Even after shutting everything off except 1 television, still couldn't watch live, just be recorded over several hours to watch. Outside furniture and furnishings filthy. Deck covered in leaves. Yes it is fall, but it is obvious from the amount of leaves that the deck has not been cleaned in weeks. It was full of leaves when we checked in. Some of the pots and pans were dirty when we checked in, also, several too worn to use. Cobwebs and dirt in several areas inside. Has 3 fireplaces, could only get one to work. Instructions to clean lint in dryer, was full when we arrived Hair in bathroom sink Spider webs Broken pieces of glass in kitchen sink when we arrived Vrbo as well as owner communication say hot tub, couldn't find one. Found seps and filters from hot tub, but no hot tub. Lots of rules to follow and cleaning to do even though they charge you a $200

Great Views, Large Space

Pro's: Had amazing mountain and creek views - wow! Large in door and outdoor space. Cabin decor was nicely done. Would easily fit 3 couples and 2 older children in bunkbeds (4th room is small and a tandem to other bedroom). Professional kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need to cook. Outdoor grill was awesome. The hosts left very clear directions and we had no issues and enjoyed our stay. Very well maintained cabin. Highlight....we saw an elk crossing the road near the cabin one morning. Con's: The driveway is steeper than we expected and there is not a way to turn around the car at the top. We had a person outside directing the driver so we had no issues. As indicated in the description - wi-fi is 'sporadic' so you need to plan ahead. The hosts did have games and video's (-:

Relaxing vacation

We throughly enjoyed our stay in Bear Camp Lodge. The lodge is beautiful and so private. The view was beautiful and the sound of the creek flowing was so relaxing. Wish we could have stayed longer but certainly recommend this lodge if you want privacy, beautiful view and just want to relax. Cherokee is just down the road and Waynesvill is a short distance away. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lodge!!!

Quiet solitude

This is an absolutely beautiful property. The owners have put so much thought into what is needed for your stay. They have decorated the lodge with gorgeous pieces. I would suggest that it's probably not as well suited for younger children as it is for the 8 and above age range. We had a 2, 5 and 6 yr old and we were constantly worried that someone would fall into one of the 2 gorgeous fireplaces. However, if your kids aren't rambunctious boys, then go for it! The house is beautiful and spacious. The only downside is cell reception and internet.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat

This house has everything you would ever want—gorgeous setting by a waterfall and mountain stream, beautiful views, gourmet kitchen fully stocked with everything you would need, cozy, comfy beds and so much more. We loved sitting on the screened in porch. We even saw an elk walk by one evening! We highly recommend this place for your next mountain getaway.

Morning coffee with a babbling stream

We chose this location because it would accommodate 2 sets of grandparents and our family of 3 - and this location had lots of space. But honestly we spent 75% of our time on the screened porch enjoying the amazing weather (even the day of rain was a joy). Saw elk, enjoyed curvy drives and the Mountain Views from just about every direction you look. Driveway takes a little getting use to getting out but we knew that ahead of time (grateful for back up mirrors). As other reviews have said - internet and cell service isn’t great or fast - but we were looking to disconnect a bit - so that didn’t create too much of an issue. Only other issue we faced - beds are tall (mobility issues with grandparents) but there are stools so it was an easy fix. Owner was very responsive to questions.

Beautiful home

This house is the most beautiful vrbo I've ever seen, and the setting was picturesque as well. It seems like this was someone's permanent home equipped with everything they would ever need and turned into a rental. I have little children too and it was pretty kid safe. The railings outside were safe, no stairs inside the house (outside there are but that's not a problem). The creek was amazing and location fantastic. The only problems we had was the internet not working anywhere in the home except at the kitchen. All the Google pods were not working. We told her and at first she said it always works fine when she is there.. then we sent her an email with attachments showing her proof and she said she wouldn't be able to fix it until she was there next. There is no way we would be able to work from there. Minor cleaning issues too but nothing that would prevent us from renting again. The rental paperwork said checkout needed to be promptly at 10am for hot tub cleaner to come and he was there at or before 8am. Again, not a biggie. Overall, amazing property.

The Creek Hums

We had a great 18 days at this property. The house is pretty much as described. In house layout, Bunk room is adjacent to both king guest room and laundry room with no door to close between bunk room and main part of house. Decorations and furniture are as depicted. Outdoors is spectacular! Creek is amazing and accessible for younger more athletic people than the 2 grandparents, but watching kids and young adults in the creek was such fun. Screen porch is an added dividend! We had dinners and happy hour there. Internet is weak, slow, and not dependable, but if you don’t need it for work, just download your streaming movies, podcasts, and music before you go. Not dependable for zoom. Direct tv works in all locations. House is large with lots of room and location is great! We had problems with A/C but owner took care of it as quickly as possible. Kitchen is large and VERY WELL STOCKED with everything you need to cook….which we did 15 out of 18 nights we were there! It’s a great place to stay!

Beautiful home and view

This was an absolutely amazing place to stay. The views were amazing and the home is exactly like the pictures. Having a smooth paved road to drive up is a huge plus having stayed in other cabins with steep, gravel roads. The sounds from the creek running in the backyard were great. I would absolutely recommend this home to anyone staying in the area!

Beautiful lodge experience

Elk Creek Lodge is just a stunning place to stay, if you are visiting the North Carolina side of the Smoky Mountains. The design of this lodge is different than most of the "cookie cutter" kind of log homes you find throughout the region. It is very spacious, has all the amenities that anyone could possibly need with magnificent views of the mountains and the beautiful mountain stream that it sits next to (we had not been there two hours and saw a giant bull elk down in front of the lodge grazing - saw another bull, female and young elk the next morning in the same spot!) The kitchen is beautiful, well appointed and stocked with anything you may need to prepare a meal. But one of the things that makes Elk Creek Lodge stand out are the unique furnishings and the wild life themed artwork that run throughout the house. It seemed that throughout our stay, we kept noticing some piece of art, a carved frame or other unique and eye catching decoration. Whoever is responsible for decorating this home did a beautiful job. In addition, Anita was a pleasure to work with through the entire process. This is a tremendous place to spend time in the mountains. We not only would stay here again, but hope to in the not too distant future. We highly recommend it!

About the host

Hosted by Anita & Tom L

Host profile image
Hello.....I am Anita and my husband is Tom.
Since I am originally from this area, my family spent every summer in the mountains of Western North Carolina. My Dad's job took us to Texas which is where I grew up. I knew from an early age I wanted a home here because Texas has 2 seasons.........hot and hotter!
Tom and I began searching for a comfortable home in 2015 which is when we found this beautiful place in Maggie Valley by a rushing creek and many Elk to watch and photograph! All of our neighbors and short term visitors are so nice and friendly! We enjoy spending time in Maggie but we have a business right out of Houston, Texas which takes up a lot of our time. So, when we cannot be in Maggie Valley, we want to share our beautiful home with you!
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We chose this property because it is on the side of a mountain with a beautiful rushing creek and mountains all around us. It's just so soothing to sit by the creek and enjoy a cup of coffee with no sounds of the city!

What makes this property unique

This location is up on a mountain which is nice and only 25 or 30 minutes from Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrahs Casino there. Soco falls is very near and we are very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway for sightseeing!
Maggie has restaurants, shopping, festivals, and great people!
Waynesville has large grocery stores, lovely specialized boutique shopping, craft breweries, and wonderful restaurants nestled in and around town.
