Cozy Fishhook River Cabin with a fresh new look - Make Memories Here!!
Our cute cabin home is nestled on an isthmus between Mud Lake on the East and the Fishhook River on the West providing great water sunrises and sunsets. Big picture windows accentuate the water's proximity as you almost feel as though you're on a boat. The cabin is midway between the town of Park Rapids and Fishhook lake. The river has excellent Bass, Sunfish and Crappie fishing while the short ride to the big lake might get you some Walleyes. You're also not far from great Brown Trout fishing as well. The house has been totally redone with all the modern amenities without adulterating your cabin experience. In a word, the décor is very cute: walls and ceilings are wrapped in knotty pine that has been bleached or tastefully painted. Cabin art abounds giving you the feeling you're in a gallery. There are 3 bedrooms and one full bathroom. There is actually a basement with an additional toilet and sink if needed. This is also where a very nice washer dryer are as well. There is a very nice propane grill and fire ring for your enjoyment. There is also a shed, or some people call it the bunkhouse, that has two beds. The property is far enough from town to give you the cabin experience but close enough to allow for a quick run into the store for something you may have forgotten. This property is perfect for the small family that wants to get away and enjoy the cabin life.

We had a great time last July during our summer vacation! The property is very clean and close to town. Short drive to Itasca State Park and several lakes.
Had a fabulous time and the cabin had everything you n more. 3rd time n will VRBO again. Easy assess to the lake n found the bald eagles nest. Also found the muskrat so cool, of course the loons n the babies, went to the logging camp best as always n Good life restaurant. Try staying a week n have a very relaxing quiet time thanks
The cabin is very comfortable and well done. It is a great location with many amenities nearby. We enjoyed the lake as well as the bike trail. Lots of wildlife-eagles, loons, ducks, deer, fish. Good restaurants close by. Kal is very accommodating. I highly recommend this cabin.
Kal’s property was very comfortable and fully equipped. The house is newly remodeled and nicely decorated with plenty of extra linens, towels and kitchen necessities. We did not have a chance to take advantage of the lake but the house has a nice view and dock, close to downtown Park Rapids. Kal was also checking in to make sure we had what we needed. Highly recommend!
Awesome property overlooking the river/lake. The home was completely set up and other than our food, it was ready to use. Loved watching the loons but especially the 17 swans as well as the eagles. Great views from the big windows.
Cabin well decorated and updates. Comfortable beds.
Washer and dryer bonus. Lots of windows with views of lake.
Kids fishing for sunnies off dock. Nice yard with lawn chairs.
Very close to Park Rapids and short drive to Itasca.

Cute cottage home and easy check in
The inside of the house was cute and accommodated 4 adults comfortably. However we never seemed to completely figure out the AC. Also the exterior of the house didn’t appear to be picked up and cleaned between stays. There was a Gatorade bottle in the tree house/fort and water bottle around the fire pit, dog poop in the yard by the side entrance and the lake access was full of spiders and boardwalk was sinking. Also all of the chairs and seating area had spiders and spider webs all over. It didn’t look like the pictures. The photo of the dock in the ad had to have been at least 5 years old and due to growth and higher water than usual, there was zero water access, even if we had our own boat.
The refrigerator had rules to the property with things not disclosed in the VRBO listing. Things like no trash service so you had to take your own trash with you like some sort of camp site, and no cooking anything with grease (like no bacon).
With so many other options in the area, we would not stay here again even though the actual cottage itself was nice. It technically sleeps six, but that is with three couples, or two couples and two kids.
Most amenities were as advertised with the exception of: Only half of the 2 car garage was available. Advertised gazebo was gone. Apparently a storm took it down but new ones can be constructed pretty quickly. A single window air conditioner on one end of the house is not enough to cool the whole house in 95 degree weather, Glad we brought extra fans. Bunk house was full of clutter and unusable due to being overrun with carpenter ants. Dock location was full of weeds. It’s August and I understand dog days but the weeds clogged my boat motor and damaged it to the point it quit running after the 2nd day. I’m sure to be in for a pricey repair.
I know people tend to list only the disappointing items but it doesn’t take away from the fact that the cabin itself was very clean and pleasant.
This was a super cute Cabin. It was perfect for our stay. Had a couple deer and a cute kitty that we made friends with. Would definitely stay here again
Awesome cabin on Fishhook river, easy access to fishhook lake
Wonderful stay with everything you would need. Pack your bags, rent a boat n have a fabulous time. Thus is our 3 year staying at the cabin. Stay at the cabin on fishhook river.
This was the perfect retreat for our family of 4. Our girls loved fishing off of the dock and we all enjoyed the full kitchen and giant kitchen island. My husband, who is 6'7" did not feel cramped at all - which is HUGE. We had great communication from Kal from the beginning and everything was taken care of. We will definitely be coming back!
Adorable and cozy. We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home on Fishhook River. The neighborhood is quiet surrounded by beautiful trees and wildlife. We loved it here. Plan to stay again in the future. Thank you so much Kal for sharing this special gem!
My family really liked this rental. It had all the space we needed for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids). The views of the water from both the living room and kitchen were just what you would want from a lake place. The house is down the road from the Heartland Bike Trail and a quick drive to Walmart for any food/snack runs. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back!

Very, very nice! Cabin was clean, decorated very nicely, linens were new. Nice dock on the river.
Kal has done a nice job with this cabin. We had no issues, it was very comfortable. Loved all the wildlife and also enjoyed the peace and quiet. Easy access to town, the lake, and the Heartland bike trail. We enjoyed paddle boarding up and down the river.

About the host

My Grandparents owned a Cabin on the north side of Fishhook Lake where I grew up every summer learning to love the outdoors and fishing. In particular I have very fond memories of my best friend, Buck (that's me on the left and Buck on the right) fishing in a little 12 foot boat with a 5 hp motor. We'd putz across the lake to specifically fish the Fishhook River, a haven for large Bass. Turn the clock forward about 45 years and we're still doing it, but the boats have gotten bigger as have the stories. Fortunately we have a nice place to tell them in now. Ultimately this will be my summer retirement cabin but until that date I'm using it sparingly in VRBO. I hope you can make your own family memories here. Park Rapids is a great, vibrant town and I'm excited to own a cool cabin there.
Why they chose this property
This property is really really cute. It's been redone so that the kitchen is uber efficient with very nice visibility to the water. It's old enough that they could actually build relatively close to the river so you feel incredibly close to what's important. The river is very wide and is better described as a narrow lake and is easily maneuvered and navigated. The sunset's are unbelievable. There is a basement that has a very nice washer and dryer.
What makes this property unique
The first thing you'll notice are the two enormous bobbers in the yard. It's a playful message of the motif inside. The yard is large and has some outstanding outdoor seating areas with a great fire ring for those cool nights. While there's large 2 car garage I am using one of the spaces - you are welcome to use the space on the right, however most folks just park in the driveway and walk in from there. I've got an older gas grill to help enjoy your outdoor time. The location is great - access to the lake, but just barely out of town to make it easy to run back for forgotten items or to just enjoy what Park Rapids has to offer. I frequently will walk into town on the Heartland trail - which is about 1.5 miles one way. Also, the Bobber House provides excellent accessability to Fishhook lake.
