Nestled just inside the Tahoe National Forest, this beautiful log home sits high atop the remnants of an old hydraulic gold mine with panoramic views of Banner Mountains and the woods. This unique home gives one the experience of being peacefully secluded, yet is a short seven mile drive to downtown Nevada City, offering fine dining, entertainment, museums and shopping. The Retreat is ideal for family reunions, workshops and vacations for relaxing and recreation. If you are a writer looking for a place to peace out, there is no better place.

A stones throw from the Retreat lies a charming community park with a swimming, Kayak, Paddle Board pond, beautiful walking trail, horseshoe pit, BBQ area, playground and sand volleyball court.

The park is for rent and makes a great venue for a casual, affordable weddings, family reunions, or group get together's. Ask owner about it.

Popular Scott's Flat Lake is less than a mile away. The south side boat ramp, provides access for swimming, hiking, boating, water skiing, sailing, fishing and kayaking and paddle boarding on this pristine body of water. The fishing is awesome too!

Master suite with queen bed, private bath. Second bedroom offers a queen log framed bed and the third bedroom features two twin beds and a game table. Loft includes a full size sofa bed. Queen size Aerobed air mattress is also available.

Antique clawfoot bathtub/shower. Queen size and twin air mattresses for the loft, great room or deck.

Great room with grand cathedral Ceiling and gas fireplace.

Fully equipped designer kitchen, service for twelve.

Wireless high speed Starlink internet access. Dish Network HDTV, Blu-Ray DVD player. Cabin has internet so Netflix, Pandora, etc., access is possible on computer or tablet. Gas BBQ on the patio.

Three lake kayaks, two single and one tandem with paddler, and two paddle boards along with life jackets etc.. Located only one mile from Scotts Flat Lake for great sailing, skiing, kayaking, fishing and swimming.

A short walk to a local park with swimming pond, playground, horse shoe pits and sand volleyball court. There also good fishing year round. Park is available for rent for private parties, reunions and weddings.

Lost Mine Retreat is very private. For the security of our guest travelers, the exterior driveway, all cabin entry areas, including hot tub egress, are motion sensor photo recorded.

Quiet and relaxing

We came to Nevada City to consider relocating and wanted to spend time in a neighborhood and found the property in a lovely location although a few minutes from the commercial district which we decided was a good thing. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating which made us feel welcome and want to return to the home again.

Christmas Stay

We had a quiet, really nice stay at this really comfortable cabin! It was very nice, with a gas fireplace, nice sized kitchen, a hot tub, plenty of parking and a nice walk to a small pond. It was set beautifully in the trees! A bit of a drive from town, but that made it more quiet!

Relaxing and cozy

Gary was extremely responsive to all requests and provided a lot of excellent information about the property and the region in advance. We were there on a cold and wet weekend but the heating and the hot tub made it all warm. We had a big storm and the power went out and the backup generator kicked in within 10 seconds. House had everything you need. The kitchen was well stocked with staples and pots, pans, etc. and the dryer was very useful on such a wet weekend. One tip: the cable TV wasn’t working for us so bring your own laptop (or your own DVDs) if you want to watch something. The house/neighborhood is very quiet and only 10-15 minutes drive from Nevada City. There are also excellent hiking trails nearby. Definitely recommend and we may well come back next year.

Exactly what we needed at LMR

The LMR property was fantastic and exactly what our family needed to visit with and stay near relatives who are based in and near Nevada City. Clean, comfortable, and cozy, the property was impeccable and the attention to detail by Gary the owner is outstanding. And Nevada City is charming and wonderful to visit. We also took a wonderful day trip to Lake Tahoe (a reasonable 90-minute drive each way). Upon leaving, we immediately missed our morning hot tub! Thank you, Gary!

A Great Nevada City Getaway

Gary's spot is the place to be! As a host, I couldn't have asked for a more thorough and communicative host who provided all the necessary information you could think of. The property is amazing! Secluded and peaceful in the woods with an amazing interior and kitchen for all your needs. Exceptional hot tub as well! The property is a bit of a drive to Nevada City and Grass Valley's downtown areas but it's also a really lovely drive and the roads are perfectly in tact so nothing to worry about there. I would highly recommend!

Lovely, peaceful, well cared for, great location!!

Everything you could need has been thought out. The cabin, is clean, well kept, just Lovely!! We played Jenga, life sized jenga, watched the 49ers. Went down to the Lost mine park down the street, enjoyed the Grass valley antique mall, went to the Gold star mining museum, had a great chat with the really nice lady at the local market down the street, spent some time at the narrow gauge railroad museum. Hiked around the cabin. Had family over, cooked, laughed, just enjoyed the wonderful space!! We had a family wedding down at the park, and on the various days leading up to and the day of.the wedding. We had plenty of space to host groups of family and friends. Everyone who came was so impressed!! Gary has provided such a wonderful space to truly have a great vacation!! It is an experience!!!

Cabin in the woods

The cabin itself was beautiful and nestled on top of a hill that would be awesome to sled down when it snows but gave us a gorgeous view during summer. The cabin is perfectly located and not too far away from any activity. But it’s far enough away that you feel secluded. The hot tub was wonderful and we could see so many stars at night! I was surprised how fully stacked the cabin was. There were kayaks and paddle boards that you could use there! You don’t need to stress if you forgot anything. Gary has got you covered! Overall it was a wonderful time and we will definitely be back!

Amazing Home and PRoperty

This place is even better in person. The hot tub is hot, the trees are big, the AC works great, and the owner is highly responsive to any concerns. We will be back, frequesnt and often hopefully.

Nice Cabin for get away

Everything was great. Fully stocked cabin with a lot of amenities. The neighborhood “pool” was really a stagnant water pond. Scott’s flat lake was beautiful, however. We enjoyed our stay.

Loved this place!

I stayed at the Lost Mine Retreat with four of my friends. We had traveled to the Nevada City area to visit the Yuba River. We loved how close the river was in proximity to the cabin. The Lost Mine Retreat was a great place to come back to after our daily river adventures. The property was very clean and there were a lot of amenities that we really enjoyed. The giant Jenga kept us thoroughly entertained. We also enjoyed bbq ing on the grill and relaxing in the hot tub. Gary was an amazing host. He was very polite and responsive. I would definitely stay at Lost Mine Retreat again!

A slice of heaven!

If you're looking for a getaway that's not too isolated but remote enough to feel like there's nobody else around, then the Lost Mine Retreat is for you. It's a stunning cabin that you can tell has been meticulously cared for. It has everything you need for a relaxing stay, no matter what type of activity you're into. We celebrated my parents' 50th anniversary there and it was absolutely perfect. The best part is that Gary, the host, couldn't have been more accommodating and communicative. It was hands down the BEST VRBO experience we've had to date.

Perfect Family Time Together

We gathered our son and his family to come up and stay minutes away from where our daughter and her family lives. We celebrated a graduation and fathers day all together. It was a plus that our little older pups could join us too. The place was perfect for us in every way. Plus we all slept well 😌 We all look forward to returning again and again.

What a place!

Really enjoyed our stay at the Lost Mine Retreat. Plenty of room for our grown kids and 2 grandkids to feel comfortable and enjoy the space. Everything we needed for our stay was available and the property was clean and new. We were a short drive outside of Nevada City where we went each day to grab a meal or hit the store in town. Great little town to just walk around. We really enjoyed the jacuzzi and made use of the BBQ’s out last night there along with the boys playing a cornhole tournament. They also had kayaks which we did not use but were available if needed. Gary was great to work with and very accommodating. We will definitely plan another trip to the Lost Mine Retreat.

Spring Break Success!

We recently stayed at Lost Mine Retreat for a week with our kids for Spring Break. We were looking for a place in the woods to unplug but close enough to town to do some shopping and exploring. Gary takes his super host role to heart. The cabin was clean, well stocked, and he was easily accessible for questions. There was no shortage of towels and linens, generous supply of sundry items, the kitchen was stocked with spices, condiments, non-scratched pans and utensils. And best of all, nothing expired! The hot tub was clean as was the kayaks and life-vests. If you are looking for a place to get away for a weekend or week in the woods, look no further. You won’t regret staying at Lost Mine Retreat. We highly recommend it and would book it again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

Cozy comfortable cabin in the woods

My family and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property with an amazing scenic location and would love to come back again! Clean, comfortable home with all the amenities we needed and more. Plenty of space, while also being cozy, with wonderful amenities like the AMAZING hot tub, internet, and lots of available gear for outdoor activities. Comfortable beds and lots of linens, onsite washer/dryer, stocked kitchen, security system, satellite TV, an adorable old-timey claw foot tub (but also two other powerful showers), and more all made our stay relaxing, fun and safe. The only concern we had was getting up and down the fairly steep driveway during potentially-snowy weather but it all worked out just fine for us. We enjoyed the isolation from the city and amazing wilderness and views, while still remaining close to groceries and dining and everything we needed. I only wish we could have gone when we had been able to visit the VERY close lake access just down the road. We very much look forward to coming back to stay here again soon!

Great visit

The property was very nice. It was secluded enough and had plenty of things to do near by. Gary was easy to work with and to get a hold of. I would recommend this place to friends and family. The hot tub was a nice addition. We brought our dirt bikes and side by side and found snow and good riding close by.

Great Vacation Experience

We had so much fun at this beautiful home in the woods! It was spacious for our family of 7 adults and super clean! We had so much room to read, relax, play games, eat, make Christmas blankets, etc. The location is perfect - quiet and surrounded by trees. It has large windows, a big dining room table, and was well stocked with kitchen items, which made it super easy to make our meals, play games, and chat. Wifi was great! Hot tub was fabulous! This is a wonderful place to have dogs too. Good outside areas, hiking, and close to Nevada City. We had a fun time visiting bookstores, quaint shops, and hiking, all of which are very dog friendly. The lake is gorgeous - - we will have to come back and visit in the summer!!! The owner, Gary, was immediately available to help with any requests and/or information and was super helpful! Our family gives this vacation home a 10 star rating and believes it is one of best places we've ever stayed!

As California Natives, we are outdoor enthusiasts. We, and our large family have been coming to, and vacationing in the woods near Scotts Flat Lake, the South Yuba river, and Nevada City for years! As avid dirt bikers, mountain bike riders, 4-wheelers, skiers, boaters, Kayaker's, paddle boarders, and hikers, the beautiful area of Lost Mine Retreat is where we've found our happy place. When it came available for purchase, we had to have it! Some day, when we're able to, we plan to retire to the area.

Why they chose this property

As previously stated, some day, we will retire here. In the mean time, we're hoping to share our investment dreams with other travelers who have similar interests, passions and ideals. We're confident you will fall in love with Lost Mine Retreat as we have!
