We enjoyed our stay in Fayetteville. The home was spacious for our group of 7 including a large fenced in yard which our dog loved. We were walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in the downtown area and a short drive to New River Gorge National Park. William was a friendly and helpful host. I would recommend this property to anyone visiting the area.
Second time staying at this awesome rental. Location is perfect walking distance to many resturants, shopping and exploring downtown Fayetteville. Loved the private fenced in back yard!
We have been coming to Fayetteville off and on since 2007 for our sisters weekends. We absolutely fell in love with the Wiseman House and plan to come back here every year. There are 6 of us, and it’s been hard to find something in our price range where we can all have a bed!!
And it’s really centrally located too!
Can’t wait to return next year.
Our family had a wonderful stay in this lovely, comfortable home. Lots of character with all the important things -- like the bathrooms and the kitchen --updated and fresh.
The backyard was a great, and safe, space for our pup to run and play.
This house was very clean and well appointed. The owner was very accommodating and gave us everything we needed regarding information about the area. The kitchen and supplies were all well stocked. The house was easy to find and is close to everything in downtown Fayetteville. It was an easy check in and check out process. We were very happy with our stay.
We stayed at the Wiseman Cottage for the 50km New River Gorge Trail festival race, and it was the perfect place! Super close to the start/finish in Fayetteville Park and close to plenty of restaurants as well. Everything was very clean and well kept!
Great property: super clean and perfect location! This house doesn't look too fancy from the outside but Don't be fooled! It's lovely inside and the back yard...it's amazing! It's beautiful, relaxing, and great for an evening cook out. Host pays attention to details, for example, provides dog bowls for dog food & water. There are towels to wipe a wet dog off, etc. Yard is fully enclosed & HUGE. There's a dog park right across the street and, again, it doesn't look like much but you'll meet the friendliest people! Great little town for seeing the National Park, rafting, and enjoying some good food. Highly recommend. Thanks Bill for sharing your property with us! We had a great time!
We met our two sons and family for a Christmas gathering. The house was wonderful…very clean, spacious and great fenced in backyard. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook a Christmas feast. More than what we expected and will have great memories for our 2021 Christmas get together. Perfect location and a short walk to a wonderful park for our one year old grandson. Bill gave us great information and was very responsive.
Overall Immaculate (passed inspection by my mother in law!), everything we needed in kitchen, even dog bowls! Thick, soft towels in bathrooms. Great location, large fenced in yard, dog park and playground across street, a block to antique store (took my mother in law!).
We had a wonderful gathering with our friends. The house was exactly as marketed online. It's very clean and the owners were very quick to respond to my emails.
I am a first time VRBOer. This was overall a good experience. Great check in and easy going property manager.
The group had a great time and the place was pretty much as expected. The location is real nice regarding our travel plans.
There were a couple events of misinformation, but all and all it didn’t create too much discord. While offered as an nearby amenity, the swimming and the effective on-site hiking were a bust; the nearest public/affordable swimming hole is about 20miles away and the on-site hiking were unavailable since the venue was booked for other purposes. No worries tho. We made due.
The biggest issue was that there was a yellow jacket hive outside the master bedroom in the back porch gutter in the immediate vicinity of the back patio which put a damper on things. We didn’t expect them inside (or outside) and didn’t see the situation outside until day 2. We notified the PM and he responded. Unfortunately he and the maintenance man found the effort would pretty much require an empty house to really take care of the problem and we would just need to tough it out. My wife was stung 3 times over the course of the weekend. As I reflect on it, somebody must’ve know the condition was there because upon closer observation on day one there were about 10-12 dead ones in the master bedroom. We cleaned up and thought that was that but day 2 unbeknownst to us there were more laying dead around our belongings… that’s when we got woke to the sitch outside.
Also, we brought a kiddie pool for the little ones to play in but there was no outdoor spigot to fill it. I guess it makes sense to avoid mass water usage but, again, we made due. Besides that, the one bedroom being right beside the main hangout areas (dining room and patio) limited how much fun we could really have.
The place and household items for use were really nice. Clean linens and all the necessities. We inquired about a dvd/Blu-ray and was told yes, but there was not.
In the grand scheme tho…we were very pleased with the place and it suited our group really well with room to spare. While we’d stay there again, we’d probably do something different since there’s so much to see. Thanks!!

My wife Sally grew up in Fayetteville. I (Bill) am from Pittsburgh and got here as soon as I could. I am a mining engineer and recently semi-retired where I work 2 days per week. Sally spends much of her time looking after our vacation rental properties. We started out in the vacation rental business in 2013 when we bought and renovated Sally's parents home where she grew up. We love Fayetteville and the surrounding area and we enjoy many of the outdoor recreation opportunities here like hiking, rafting, biking and cross country skiing. I am also the President of the New River Gorge Trail Alliance, a 501C3 non profit organization that is dedicated to creating a long distance trail network in the six counties surrounding the New River Gorge.
Why they chose this property
The Wiseman Cottage is located in a great neighborhood in downtown Fayetteville. It has beautiful architectural features and was well built, well maintained and recently renovated. Sally knew the Wisemans and always loved the house. It is located directly behind one of our other vacation rental properties, the McGrath House (#707475), and groups with up to 23 people can reserve both properties. Fayetteville has many unique restaurants, bars and shops and this house is within easy walking distance (1 to 3 blocks) to most of them. It is also close to the local trails, playgrounds, town parks and the New River Gorge National Park. The New River Gorge Trail Alliance regional trail network passes directly in front of the house. The former Fayetteville Elementary School dog park and football field are directly across the street. The 200 acre Gaines Property is a two minute walk from the house and the New River Gorge Town Park trailhead is only 1/2 mile away. The New River Gorge Bridge itself is 1.5 miles from the house and all of the outdoor adventure outfitters are located between 4 and 7 miles away.
What makes this property unique
The Wiseman Cottage offers the best combination of luxury, well maintained accomodations, convenient location and affordability in the New River Gorge Area.
