Family Getaway Before Christmas

Brought the family, including our dog, for a fun weekend away. Cabin is in an awesome location. I was a little worried about the noise from the road in front, but you can't hear it inside the house. Beautiful views across the lake. Convenient parking just behind the house for 1 car. Pretty clean. Really enjoyed our time.

Cozy house with beautiful views of donner lake

Overall the rental met all the needs for our trip. It was a cozy house in a great location with great view of donner lake. Love the balcony. However the upstairs loft was not as clean as wanted. The bed upstairs was stained with pet markings and smelled a little musky. But other than that, the rental met our needs. Another issue we did face was the parking. Initially the instructions for parking was not clear and we had to call vacasa to verify where to park. It was completely different from the check in details. Be prepared to carry all your stuff up and down many stairs since there is no driveway.

Nice dog friendly condo

Condo had plenty of sleeping room and was closed to lake. Nice to be able to bring dogs and close to Truckee. Finding parking was a little tricky.

Keep expectations low.

Parking is difficult right on the side of the busy street. There is a snow bank and a deep puddle of water where the parking is. There is fast oncoming traffic which makes parking there difficult/dangerous. The cabin is up the hill from the street. There are solar lights lined up along the railway up the hill but does not work when its dark which defeats the purpose? Its dangerous walking up to the cabin in the dark. Shower is small and shower head is not detachable making it very difficult to shower kids. For the price, this cabin is passable but not really recommended unless you keep expectations super low.

Nice little cabin overlooking Donner lake. Was very convenient for fishing, having a dock right infront of the cabin. Cabin was very relaxing with a deck in the front.

Great location, good size cabin

I thought the location was great! I loved having access to the public docks right across the street. This made for easy access to the lake at any time of day. The view from the deck is wonderful, as can be seen in the pictures. Perfect sized cabin for my family of 5.

Lake front!

This cabin is a great location on the waterfront. Our dog loved laying on the deck in the sun. The cabin is simple and had plenty of room for our family of five. The carpets could use a good cleaning, but this is expected with a cabin that accepts pets!

Great Location

Right across the street from the lake with gorgeous views from the kitchen table -- we fell in love with Donner Lake! The cabin was comfortable, but rustic as you'd expect for a mountain lake cabin (eg some damage to floors, janky interior doors, kitchen table wobbly). Dealing with Vacasa as a renter instead of an actual owner is always less personal and more commericalized ... eg they were happy to offer late check out, if we paid an additional fee$$ But overall we loved the location, there was plenty of space, perfect winter getaway

Great Location - Concerns re: Hous

The location of this home is amazing! It is right across the street from the lake and has a great deck from which you can enjoy the view. However, the inside of the home is badly in need of repair and a deep cleaning. I have notified Vacasa about my concerns and am hopeful that they will make the essential improvements (Ex: the ground floor windows couldn't be locked) and am hopeful that they will make the experience better for others.

This cabin is cute and is located in a beautiful lakeside setting. It could be great if the owners made small investment in functionality: better kitchen equipment (basic items like dish and hand towels and mixing bowls were missing, frying pans were worn, toaster was broken) and a floor mat/rack for snowy shoes by the front door. There were no instructions and the main TV with 3 remotes was difficult to operate: we were unable to adjust its volume so couldn't really use it. There were few other small issues already communicated to the rental agency.

Great for short getaway but be patient

Pricing, plenty of room, dog friendly, and lakefront location. However unlike our other places we’ve stayed at there was a surprising lack of information on the property. The property binder was useless. There were two dials on the wall with no instruction on what turned on what (fireplace, heater?) There was no porch light at night to help you use the key code (which was tiiiny!) and we only read from other reviews where to put the trash. The tv froze several times (and in this case do what your IT people suggest and unplug and plug back in). The parking instructions could be simplified to just say park in front of the property. There were no lights by the address sign so we had to guess which one it was and go up to the property to confirm. Better info could’ve been helpful.

Ask your cleaning crew about cleaning delay. I can't send you pictures of that. Your cleaning crew in charge told me not to call you because they will be in trouble. Ask them. Check your TV in both bedrooms. They don't work. Check your front windows. They don't lock. I can't send you pictures because I didn't take any. Called you all more than 6 times including your manager. Keep on saying partial refund is being processed every time I call. Pretty bad experience with this cabin rental. You all keep on saying we will call back and nobody ever call me back. Can you please resolve this.

Small effort & investment would make this a great cabin

The cabin is very cute and it is in a beautiful lakeside setting. The place would be great and the high nightly rate would be better justified if the following simple issues were addressed: There is no door mat/shoe rack so snow and water make entryway a mess. The kitchen needs a mixing bowl, dish and hand towels and decent frying pans. Dishes and pots are generally worn, outdated or mismatched. Decent wine glass set would be nice. The toaster knob and fridge water dispenser are broken and there was not enough dish washer detergent to turn dishwasher on upon departure. The upstairs table lamp was broken (the caretaker was able to fix this by swapping it for one of the downstairs floorlamps.). The main TV had 3 remotes but no instructions: we got it on but were never able to adjust volume to watch anything. Nice little extras would be a pen, paper and some games or puzzles. Windows and door are quite drafty but the heating fireplace and standalone heaters kept the cabin warm. Parking spot would benefit from a sign. All very easy and inexpensive fixes to do the nice cabin justice.

Overall it was good with a few glitches.

The property was very nice. I didn’t feel that adequate towels and washcloths were provided. There were no washcloths downstairs and just a couple upstairs. There were no tea towels in the kitchen so I had to go buy some. Also there were no cereal bowls in the kitchen. That’s unacceptable. We were given two keys but only one worked. The biggest problem was the suppose parking on the street above. There is absolutely no path to the home from up there. It is quite steep, rocky, and difficult for walking. The seeming pathways down are trespassing on the neighbors on both sides. They made it clear that the stairs and trails belonged to them and we were not to use them. It would help if the owners provided cones to place in front to reserve the parking while guests are here. The location is beautiful. We did enjoy that. An umbrella would have been nice. The people who picked up our trash were very nice and quick to respond. With the exception of the above I would say it could be a outstanding property.

Lovely mid-week getaway!

First, let me say that we were having such a good time at Donner Lake that we would have booked an extra night if we could have. We came with our pup, and the big, fenced- in deck in front with table, chairs and loungers was perfect for both her and us. There's a dock a stone's throw across the street for easy sunning, swimming and fishing and (bonus!!!) an ice cream shop a short walk away. The cabin was very clean, our bedroom was prettily furnished (if very tiny) with a comfy bed. The cabin is by no means fancy, though care has been taken to update bedding, curtains, light fixtures. The downstairs carpet is stained, as is part of the couch, and the doorknob of the front door is barely attached to the door and there's a slight musty smell I associate with all cabins in the woods. But those are all minor. The main reasons I didn't give the cabin a higher rating was: 1) the kitchen cupboards were completely bare, save for a mostly empty bottle of vegetable oil and a container of black pepper. No salt, no spices, nothing. So if you're going to stay here, you have to bring EVERYTHING you need for cooking. 2) LOVED the expansive views ... but not the cars and trucks zipping back and forth all day on the road below. 3) the bedrooms are too small to accommodate nightstands, so there's nowhere to put a glass of water or books or anything else. But given the scarcity of dog friendly houses in the area, I felt lucky to find this one and am definitely considering coming back again next year.

Renter beware

We had an arrival time of 4PM but with a note that the property might be available early if we asked. We received a note that morning that the property would not be ready until the agreed upon 4PM. Once we arrived, we discovered that there were no towels throughout the house. This included towels for showering, to wipe our hands and dishes with and paper towels as well. The description had assured us that the kitchen would included these items. Despite 3 phone calls and assurances that the items would be delivered, it was not until the second late day of our arrival that the items appeared on the front deck (After we had already purchased items to help us through). The view was lovely, but the general property has not been well maintained. The front deck railing was loose. The faucet in the main bathroom had never been secured. The carpet and furniture was very dirty. There was no dishwasher soap despite the request to run the dishwasher upon departure. Overall, the value for the money spent was not up to par. I would not recommend renting this property unless you just don't care about all the things missing.

Nice cabin but wasn’t as advertised

It was supposed to be a dream cabin, unfortunately it fell short of that. The garbage cans were full and the bathrooms didn’t have enough towels. But, the deck was wonderful, with a beautiful view of the lake. I would book another vacation here.

Donner Lake

Rustic cabin, great location across the street from Donner Lake with views from the front deck. Close to the beach and town. Loved this part of the cabin. Management company versus an individual owner so response time is slow or nonexistent. We had a problem with the TV (Air quality poor due to MOSQUITO FIRE with recommendations to stay inside) and sent a message to management. Their response must have been for another property as it did not apply. We responded back immediately, and the following morning, and after 24 hours of no response we called and were told they could possibly send someone out the next day (the day of our check out). There are three remotes with none of them matching the TV brand and no operating instructions to be found. No A/C and there is a heat wave so we needed to open the windows but there are no screens (We read this complaint from a former occupant with management stating they would resolve yet it has not been addressed). Open the windows and you get the bugs or leave them closed and an uncomfortable night of heat. No heat wave and no MOSQUITO FIRE and we would have been fine. But the lack of response from management is poor business and most unlikely we will rent one of their managed properties again. Not impressed with VACASA.

Great location

This cabin is perfect for a group and loved that it was pet friendly. Kitchen and a few other areas of home have been updated since the images were taken for the listing. My one complaint would be that only two windows in the entire cabin have screens, so we couldn’t have fresh cool air in the bedrooms at night or cool down the house much after a warm day (we closed the non-screened windows when the bugs came out in the evenings). It made sleeping rather hot and uncomfortable even with fans. Hopefully screens are on the to do list.
