About this property

House in the Trees

You can feel extremely secure in My Dogwood Cabin at Deer Ridge BECAUSE there are gates onto property.

This cute undated 1970's cabin in the woods to stay at as your, Home Away from Home, is as the pictures tell. Updated yet with remnants of the Retro Vintage feel left in tack.
It is available as a nightly rental or weekly vacation home, each with its own price points and advantages.

The beauty is the location, nestled in the woods with views from indoors through over abundance of windows or, the huge wrap around porch which extends the cabin another 700 sq. feet giving you a bountiful space of nearly 2000 sq ft for your enjoyment.

Keep in mind the property does sit next the the road into the Park, which does mean there can be road noice from folks coming and going into the Park.

All linens furnished. Full Kitchen, dishwasher, range w/oven, full size refrigerator, microwave, dining room and bar with stools. All dishes and flat ware furnished. Pots and Pans and grilling utensils (even hot dog/ marshmallow sticks) provided. Heated and Air Conditioned.

This property is located one mile from the Roaring River State Park, in Missouri. Some nearby lakes include Table Rock Lake and the pristine Beaver Lake. This south western Missouri town is great for the avid fishers or those looking to kick back and relax on the nearby lakes or peaceful beaches. Eagle Rock and Big M's beaches are a little over 15 minutes away. 15 to 30 minutes of scenic driving (or further if you want to travel deeper into the Ozark Mountains) makes this destination perfect for the out door enthusiast with its wide variety of terrains and environments all within one state! Experience The Ozark Mountains at this destination, as you roam through the Mark Twain National Forest that surrounds the area . . . . AND all the places to explore right across the border into NW Arkansas. More lakes and awesome places to explore.

You can enjoy peace and serenity by the open Fire Pit, large wrap around porch or indoors in the large open living space with windows all around you you will feel like you are outdoors.

If you plan your stay in the winter months it is just as beautiful and even more serene and life slows down in this neck of the wood...the cabin has a nice fireplace to hang out next to as you sit all warm and cozy with a cup of coffee or glass of wine . . . watch all the wild life as you do so. Plenty of bird watching can be had while sitting inside. If you take a stroll down the paths through the trees you most likely would spot a deer or two, a few squirrels maybe a red fox or two, here the coyotes and birds. Yes there are black bear in the area but unless you get off deeper into the woods you will not likey encounter any.

A Water Park near by, swimming pool and water slide just down the road. Plenty of near by activities and restaurants.

Very nice cabin in the woods

It’s a very nice cabin in the woods. Very comfortable, clean with a nice large screen TV to watch. Very relaxing and a short distance from Roaring River State Park. It does have several steps up to a deck to enter the cabin. We would recommend this cabin as a great place to stay.

Property was very quiet even though ‘on the highway’. Full of trees that blocked any noise. We enjoyed the stay very much.

Roaring River trip

This cabin was fantastic! I feel like the host put a lot of thought into what is important to a guest and it was the little things that made this stay even more enjoyable. The host was easy to communicate with and the cabin was perfect for our group. We come to this area 2 to 3 times a year to trout fish and this is by far the more enjoyable stay we have ever had in the Ozarks. The property is beautiful and quiet. Close to the river and very comfortable. We will be back

Great getaway

Great property nestled in the woods. Loved the deck and grilling area. Kim was very responsive and left us homemade pastries and OJ. Can’t beat the location, 5 minutes from the river. Will definitely be back next year!

Great Getaway Location

This home was a perfect place for my husband and me and our dog. It was quiet and tucked away but close to Roaring River. It gave me a place to read and soak in the beauty of spring while letting my husband get in plenty of fishing. We enjoyed making meals in the kitchen and on the deck, and we were centrally located enough that we could wander around looking at things and end up in Branson for dinner.

Great place

I like the location and the property although close to the road fairly quite. The only thing was a small bathroom. BTW the owner left eggs fresh and boiled, grapes, bananas and chocolate muffins with half a craft of orange juice. Was very nice.

This was a great cabin with an open living room. We got a lot of use out of the wood burning fireplace. Location to Roaring River was ideal. We will return again in the future.

Visiting family in Cassville, Missouri

After a few hiccups on the registration , probably of our own making, we were able to spend time at the house. There were two of us, …. my sister and me It was very clean and was equipped well. It was also very thoughtful of the owner to provide fruit, muffins, eggs and orange juice. How thoughtful is that!!! The stay was enjoyable. Kim Marie was exceptionally kind. Highly recommend this location. Bobbie and Jane. PS. We booked for three of us (all sisters in our 70’s). Unfortunately, the youngest sister’s husband had a stroke the night before leaving so she was not able to go with us ! Tragic as she would have loved to be with us.

The cabin itself is nice. Even though it's close to the road, it was quiet. The aircondtioner is not sufficient to cool the entire house. The bedrooms are warm at night. We were very disappointed that the gourmet breakfast that was part of the package listed was not provided. The owner's explanation was due to Covid however the description of the property included how she cleaned the house for Covid and still said that breakfast was provided. It was the determining factor in chooseing this property over another one. Also be aware that there is no WiFi at the cabin.

umm well

this is not a place we will stay again, there was five of us. One young lady with downs sy. We save all year to go someplace nice and we planed to stay 5 days. We had 5 towels and four wash rags. I personally requested extra of both and blankets. By day two we asked for more and had to wait till noon to get them. By 4pm that same day we had no water. they brought us 5 gals to drink for 5 people Until it was fixed. No showers and no using the bath room. I told them we could'nt stay without water with handicapped person . Let alone 5 people in a house. I asked for two days repaid because if we would have checked in at 3 we would have been without water in an hour. She gave us back 1.5 days back. so thats something. This home is right by the highway also. so if you have kids or animals its not the best place.

Cozy cabin in the woods

We decided to try a bed & breakfast for our trip to Roaring River. Boy, did we choose well! Kim Marie, our gracious host, has created a lovely getaway on her property. The two-bedroom cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay. And her breakfasts that she serves each morning in her home, just down the hill? Absolutely fantastic. She prepares them at your specified time, on her large grill on the fully-screened patio overlooking the trees...such a cozy space, especially with her two sweet dogs at your feet. We felt so at home here. The cabin itself is well-appointed, complete with frosty frozen mugs in the freezer, yummy coffee, cozy cotton/bamboo towels in the bathroom, and super soft sheets. With a plethera of windows, the views are absolutely beautiful, and you're completely secluded on her property. I would say the only negative to this place would be that the window unit in the living room (the only source of A/C in the cabin) is super loud, as in you have to turn your laptop up full blast to be able to hear it if you are watching something. It's also a tad musty smelling, but it IS a cabin in the woods. Kinda adds to the ambiance if you ask me. Kim Marie, you outdid yourself with this place. We look forward to coming back again, hopefully with our kids this time so we can let them experience it! And don't forget to send me that breakfast chile casserole recipe...I can't stop thinking about it. :)

Fantastic Experience

Our Second time staying with Kim. Both experiences have been phenomenal! The house is just as stated. Kim has updated the kitchen (looks really great) added a Blackstone griddle and more seating on the deck. Checked in with us to see if we needed anything more a couple of times and was quick to respond with any of our needs. Kim accomodates fur babies as well which is a giant plus for us. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to get away from the hussle and bussle of a heitic work schedule! Even though it is right off the highway it does not effect the peace and quiet! Thank you again Kim, we look forward to staying with you again next year!

Perfect place

This place is just up the hill and only 5 minutes from the best fly fishing area around! The house had everything we needed and the host went above what we expected with just some simple complementary touches. Fruit and breads with some dessert rolls were set out for us to enjoy. Excellent stay for the 4 adults!

Crystal Clear Roaring River

This property is exactly as described online. We traveled to the area for a family reunion. We had 4 adults, two children, and one dog. We had everything we needed with plenty of space. The cabin was clean & conveniently located near the gorgeous river! LOVED our stay here! The property owner is very kind & goes out of her way to make sure your stay is a good one.

About the host

Hosted by Kim Marie

Host profile image
I am a half native of this area called the Ozarks. My folks were from here, met here, married and moved on to live else where until they settled in Illinois, where I was born and raised. Ever since I was born this is where we came for family holidays, vacations and summers. When I was 9, in 1974, my folks build this little house I now call the Dogwood Cabin. So half my adolescents I lived in Illinois (during the school year) and half here on this property in the summers.

It was a cool place to spend my childhood summers . . . I fell in love with wild life and all it offers. City girl goes to the woods and becomes a country girl.

This beautiful wooded land I continue to call Deer Ridge. My father named it back when he acquired it in 1970, developing it into a family retreat. Now it continues as a retreat for you and others who wish to experience this small part of the Ozark Mountains.

Why they chose this property

This place holds many fond memories for me, as I spent most all summers here growing up. This is where I connected with nature, the trees, the birds, all the wild life . . . the peace and the quite. The simplistic way of spending an afternoon or evening. Back than in this area we did not have much service for TV, nor phones. We had to relay on our own imaginations and each other for entertainment.

When my folks were passing from this world, I began my dreaming of an old dream, that started in my early 20's . . . to one day have a bed and breakfast. I saw I had a reason, a way and means to finally make another dream a reality. I had a 'what to do' in this season of my life.

This property and this House among other sites I am developing here is a wonderful place for me to now call my home and my new vocation . . . hosting others as they retreat and unplug from their daily grind . . . getting back to nature and all it has to offer.

Feeling blessed I have been given a chance to come back to my childhood play ground and open it up for others.

What makes this property unique

I am not sure of the uniqueness of this property, unless you aren't use to being in the woods surrounded by trees and wild life. If you are from or live in the city, this place is very unique to you and your experiences perhaps.

I do not do much if anything to the land itself. There is no landscaping except what mother nature does. I think the beauty is in what grows and develops on its own. . . the wild flowers, native grasses if any, trees, mushrooms, ROCKS. Yes rocks LOL.. . after every rainfall there are more rocks unearthed. My father use say 'nothing grow faster or more abundantly here than ROCKS.. I keep the place as 'all natural' as I can yet maintained in a rustic sort of way.
