WHERE YOU’LL BE STAYING
Our home is in the ideal location. On a quiet street in Wainscott, it is located south of the highway in the sweet spot between Bridgehampton and East Hampton. It’s unique setting—walking or biking distance from the ocean beach, two blocks from the jitney stop and the shops in Wainscott, including the best seafood shop in the Hamptons—make it a true find. A large variety of excellent restaurants, tennis courts, civic center and a multiplex movie theater are within 5-7 minutes by car. The house is on a private, landscaped full acre with luxurious trees surrounding the spacious deck and large heated pool.
A HOUSE TO ENJOY
The house is designed by the famous architect Philippe Starck, who intended to capture the surrounding nature of the house within its bedrooms. The upstairs master is super-large with a king-sized bed and overlooks the swimming pool. It opens up into the tree-filled surroundings giving you the feeling of sleeping in a treehouse. The den has a computer desk, printer and ample work space in addition to comfortable chairs and a pull-out sofa. The bathroom next to it contains a glass enclosed stall shower.
The downstairs bedroom opens up to its own nature filled patio and has direct access to a large bathroom with jacuzzi. Two additional bedrooms are very comfortabl
The living room is spacious and has a wood-burning fireplace to enjoy the nights you want to relax at home. Our home is filled with books providing you access to any reading you may want to do. The open kitchen will offer an opportunity to cook at home. Our kitchen is fully equipped with appliances, including a washer and dryer. You can receive guests for dinner in the dining room.
There are televisions in every bedroom and in the den, excellent wifi throughout the house, a sound system on the main floor and deck area, with a collection of dvds in the cabinets.
Numerous chaises and an umbrella surround our pool. We have a new large grill, a picnic table and benches and, in addition to our pool lights, small strung lighting across the deck providing for extra hours of outdoor evening dining. There is an outdoor shower for after beach and pool activities.
The house has a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, picnic coolers, pool/ beach towels, bikes in the shed and access to the beach. Housekeeping service is available.
Owners
Barbara J. Berg and Arnold Schlanger
Barbara is an historian/ writer who has spent many hours writing in the sun-filled upstairs den. Arnold is an attorney and legal consultant. We fell in love with this house the moment we saw it because it manages to be secluded yet very central to all that we enjoy: the ocean, some of the best biking routes in the Hamptons, antique fairs, great shops, cultural centers and restaurants ranging from fun to fine-dining. The house is extremely well-built and quiet. Adults can read or relax or work but are always close enough to supervise children.
Our own children are all married now, but they love coming to the house with their own children for all the reasons that our renters and guests love it.

About the host
Hosted by Barbara J, Berg

My family and I have spent many wonderful vacations at our house. Even though our children are married now they still love to come with their own children reliving the beautiful days at the beach, or biking on the scenic paths or trips to Montauk to see the Lighthouse, or--one of our favorite activities--cooking meals together.
As I writer, I especially enjoy working in the sun-filled rooms upstairs and every so often looking out the window at our grandchildren swimming in the pool.
We live most of the year in Manhattan, with all its joys and hassles, but as soon as my husband and I pull into our driveway, we both feel a sense of calm and serenity that is irreplaceable.

Why they chose this property
I never believed in love at first sight until I saw this house. It has everything I dreamed about. We have been coming to the Hamptons since our youngest child was 6 months old and know the different towns well. And Wainscott is by far my favorite, quiet, but very accessible to everything we might need.
The house has a beautiful downstairs master as well as one upstairs. Compared to other houses we saw, our bedrooms and are large and airy and well separated to provide privacy when we want it. When we don't, there is amble common space to our family and guests to be together. We also love the luxurious trees on our property and around the pool which again afford the sense that we are the only home for blocks around.

What makes this property unique
We love the full acre zoning, the beautiful views from the upstairs rooms, the wonderful construction of the house that makes it very quiet even when it is filled with children and adults, the upstairs den/ study where if we need to work--as my daughter in law did while studying for the bar exam--you can without being disturbed, the layout of the rooms, the full wooden bookcase that forms a wall of our living room and the rocker on the porch for reading and quiet reflection and our beautiful pool .
