This is a brand new architect designed custom house that sits on an amazing property on the road going to the famous La Fortuna waterfall. Exotic woods, granite counter tops, expansive patio areas, very large pool and water gardens are just some of the details that you will enjoy when you come to spend time at this special retreat. The pool is the most elegant private pool in the area. Only 4 mins. to the center of La Fortuna, but it has the feeling of being in the country side with views into the forest with toucans and other friendly wildlife in residence.
While the house could accommodate 8-10 people we limit the max to 5 guest so that everyone has plenty of space, unlike most properties in the area that claim to accommodate many people in a limited space this luxury property is meant to be enjoyed by max. 5 people.

We can arrange for local excursions and assist with all your travel plans including transport to the house from anywhere in the country. This gives you the option of not having to rent a vehicle and eliminating the stress of driving. The center of Fortuna is only a mile from the house and is a $4 taxi ride if you want to go for shopping or dining, etc, Uber is also an option.

Amidst the recent pandemic, the government’s strong action has been effective, and has been lauded by both national and international press for handling the pandemic in an effective way. Costa Rica is a small country, with a small population. The further you travel from San Jose, the population decreases drastically, making La Fortuna an ideal location to social distance. Nearby, here are both public and private healthcare systems for tourists and visitors that can be utilized depending on the individual’s health insurance. Moreover, paying out of pocket is significantly less expensive than in much of the Western world. If you like to cook, do not stay here. Very few items, not even a bowl to make pancake batter in. All glassware was mismatched and cloudy. Dog hair galore. It did not look like it had been professionally cleaned in some time. Cobwebs and dust all over. Only one bedroom has AC and the owner tretty much told us we shouldn’t have to run it. It was 90 degrees during the day and only got down to the mid 70’s at night. It was miserable not having AC in the whole house. The owner made a joke that the listing didn’t say it had AC but also didn’t say it didn’t. The house itself was beautiful with all the woodwork. The bathrooms need to be updated but they weren’t terrible. There is ZERO view of the volcano. The listing needs to be updated with new pictures for sure.The owner lives in a very small structure that sits in the front yard. It had a green fence in front of it. That setup is very weird. Get rid of that structure, have more ac units installed and professionally cleaned and I absolutely wouldn’t mind staying there again. Normally I would buy a rental house a few pieces to keep (like a much needed mixing bowl) but the house is on the market and the stay was just pretty miserable with the heat. Other times of the year I’m sure it’s fine. But when it’s hot like that, he really needs to let people know.

The location of the home is fantastic. Very close to several good restaurants and the La Fortuna waterfall. The back porch setting is lovely. Other than that, the property was just ok. It looks vastly different from the photos on the listing, with lots of vegetation grown up. This does provide a certain amount of privacy, but is a little deceptive. We were met at the house by the property owner. He seemed nice enough but we were surprised that he would be staying on the property in a separate little cabin, as that is not mentioned in the listing. Overall not a huge deal, but would have been nice to know beforehand. It is obvious the owner lives in the home whenever it is not being rented, as evidenced by the numerous personal items left out and the state of the property when we arrived. The night before departure, the owner messaged several times wanting to know what time we were leaving so the house could be cleaned, and that felt like we were being rushed out the door. Overall, it wasn't a horrible stay by any means and was very convenient, but I would not book this property again.

Our family of five loved the openness and space of this place and of course the pool! The location is beautiful and quiet while being very close to restaurants and activities. Great communication and recommendations. Bring your own shampoo/soap.

Lovely home to enjoy your vacation!

The home is lovely with so much intention in its space. Beautiful artwork, woodwork, and detail. It is colorful with lots of unique items and flair. It is someone's (mostly) full time home, so it feels like you are in a home that is well loved and used. It is clean with lots of sleeping options! The pool and gardens are magnificent. We did have a rental car so it was easier to get around but you can walk to some restaurants and shops. Chante Verde has the best strawberry-mint-lemondae I have ever had! You could walk to El Salto swimming hole as well.

Two stars!

My husband and I stayed here for three days while visiting Costa Rica for a month. The location of the house is perfect. The house itself is a very nice house but needs a lot of attention. It was very dirty and although it says no pets there was pet hair everywhere. The kitchen is not very well stocked. We could not even find a bowl to mix a salad in. It states that there is a barbecue grill which there is not. The landscaping around the house has grown up terribly. The property has changed tremendously from when the pictures were taken.

Great Location, House Needs Attention

Start with the good: The location is great. 5 min to La Fortuna waterfall (must see), 5 min to La Fortuna (cute town with whatever you need), 20 - 30 min to hot springs, Arenal, and ziplining. The house itself is interesting. Lots of artwork to look at, great wood smell, high ceilings, very long pool, nice grounds. We saw several toucans out in the trees while having coffee on the patio. 6-7 people would be comfortable here. It is very secure, and cows live next door. The place needs a good cleaning and sprucing up. bathrooms were clean, but the toilet seats are loose. Kitchen stove was not clean and we washed all dishes before use. There is no dishwasher. Kitchen equipment is sparse (one pan, a few pots, old coffee maker) but we made it work. Check-in was... OK - after an arduous car trip from Quepos (everything you've heard about Costa Rican roads is true), we missed the 75-minute window to meet the property manager there, so we had to drive into La Fortuna to get the key and find out which gate led to the house. She was very nice and was in continuous contact to make sure everything was good. The host was responsive to my questions after booking. Word of warning - the only room with AC is the master bedroom. That was tolerable; it was not too hot at night in June, but that might be an issue during hot weather. All in all, we had a nice time at this property, but I recommend the owners install a dishwasher, clear out some clutter, and have a maintenance weekend.

Absolutely Stunning

We were absolutely Stunned when we walked into the house. Mouths dropped open, it was Gorgeous! It way better than I imagined, way better than the photos. WOW, Beautiful, Stunning. Filled with sumptuous artwork by Heidy, a very talented local artist. This place is: Heavenly; Unique; Stunning. Kitchen, architecture, artwork: eclectic. Peaceful natural retreat; Close-in to Fortuna, convenient yet private; Own forested land; Surrounded by sounds of nature howler monkeys, frogs, birds; Full lap pool; Absolutely Stunning. Kitchenware could use an update. The owner, Peter: charming, laid back. There was a maintenance issue requiring attention which would preclude us from staying the first night we were scheduled to arrive. Peter offered us several options for compensation which was greatly appreciated. Exactly what we were looking for. Great!! Thank you, Peter!

Great Stay for a private residence and family/group

As a family/group of 5 this was a great option for us! 2 adults and 3 teens and we fit nicely into this spacious villa! Peter was a very kind host with a lovely property with a pool and a view! Right in La Fortuna, this was a perfect option for all the tours including the hot springs, volcano hike, mystic hanging bridges, zip lining and ATV tour. Everything was very close within 10-15 minutes including other food options. The property is right across from the Casa Luna hotel which had great food and helped us book our excursions! After long days of activity, a dip in the pool was fantastic and refreshing! Not all of the home has AC so if that is a must, this may not be the place for you-the master has AC and was very comfortable. There is also a laundry room which was nice for us after long days of hiking, swimming and ATV in which we were dusty and dirty! Overall, very nice!

Perfect Home Base

We loved the rental. Peter and Heidy were very helpful on all levels and booked most of our activities for us at discounted rates. Heidy also sent a nightly summary of the next day's activities and pickup times, etc. Great visit to La Fortuna and a great place to stay.

Lovely property in the jungle thats a short drive from La Fortuna’s city center, and centrally located to all the activities in the area. Peter and Heidi were great hosts that helped book activities with local providers at discounted rates!

Great location and great vibe!

The house is clean, mostly tidy and beautifully decorated. The owner has some personal items filling the drawers and closets, but the place is otherwise perfect. It's open, spacious and has an amazing view. It's close to town and easily located by taxis/drivers. It's on a beautiful road that surveys the beautiful landscape. The road is traveled, but not loud and busy. There's a handful of great activities that are within walking distance from the home. The city is about a 25 minute walk from the home. Heidy is a gem and so helpful. She was wonderful. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful home in La Fortuna

We truly felt at home in this gorgeous villa! It allowed us the peace and quiet we were looking for while being so close to great restaurants, shops, and adventures. We had more than enough space for our family of four and enjoyed the sights and sounds from the relaxing pool.

Not What It Looks Like In the Photos

When we walked into the property, we were shocked. The interior was the most cluttered of any vacation rental I've ever been in (and I stay in them a lot). What you see in the photos is very nice, clean and looks very appealing. The reality of what is there now is totally different. The host really needs to update the photos to show the reality of what you're renting. There is stuff everywhere - from tons of paintings, laminated posters of movies (even in the shower) everywhere, old bedside lamps everywhere (4 on top of the wardrobe in 1 bedroom, 3 I believe in another), mutiple floor fans in bedrooms etc. There are large slices of tree wood that look like they will be made into table tops - on the floor in the living room under the couch, on the patio, the area under the stairs is stuffed full of stuff... In the master the closet had personal stuff stacked with a blanket thrown over it. The only TV is in the master bedroom. So if you want to watch TV as a group, you have to either pile on the bed or not watch it. They really should move it to the living room or purchase a 2nd one. We tired to find space for our food / grocery items and the cupboards were stuffed with everything from tools to 3 drawer full of plastic bags. The fridge was empty of food items and nice. The microwave did not work (they did offer to replace it but could not do so until the day we left). On a positive side, the pool and grounds are great. Very lush and tropical. The area is fantastic for exploring the Arenal / La Fonta area. Some great restaurants just down the road. The owner and the host were very responsive to email / messages. The check in process was ok - you have to coordinate a time to meet them at the house. Not a big deal, we just prefer to have self check in. The house was clean. It just overshadowed by all the clutter.

Great location near Fortuna

We thought the property was in a great location, not too remote, not too far away from Fortuna, and offered nice views of the surrounding rainforest. The cleanliness of the property was really good (only found a dirty coffee pot) and the check in process was good, but I would have personally preferred something without pre-coordination since it would just simplify the process. Communication with the property management was wonderful and all of the necessary info was provided. We would certainly stay here again!

Nice, but cluttered

The property is in a quiet section of town, and has a secluded feel, but is still very close to restaurants and shops. Tiquicia restaurant was our favorite. Main disappointment with the house was the clutter. In the pictures, it is very well staged and looked typical for what we experience in rental properties. However, for our visit, it felt like we just displaced the resident family who had to pack up and quickly leave because we arrived. There were various items including pool cleaning implements and random goods stored visibly under the stairs in disorganized fashion, ganglions of electrical wires on counter tops along with other clutter, various buckets and other items around the yard and patio, and an ant issue in the kitchen and living room. The only TV is in the master bedroom and the beds are small. In short, the house itself is quite nice. But, it just didn't feel like it was made ready to receive guests and therefore we found it difficult to relax and feel at home. Also there's no dishwasher so dishes don't get sterilized between visitors. The first mug my wife used was dirty so we just washed the items before using them. Wifi worked well as did Netflix on the TV. There was a bit of a weird odor that really bothered my wife. It didn't bother me at all but she has a pretty sensitive sense of smell. Hot water worked great and water pressure was really good. Paper towels would have been nice. The air conditioner in the master bedroom worked well. However the numbers on its display are surprisingly bright and will bug you if you're one of those people that need a dark room. The pool looked nice. We ended up not using it because of a dead mouse floating around and their information stated they don't use much chlorine. I probably wouldn't stay here again if it was just the two of us. Maybe if it was a larger group. Other reviews have been great, though. So, it could very well be that what we experienced is not the norm.

Great central location. Great patio and pool!

First time visiting this part of Costa Rica. Owner Peter and his assistant Heidy were extremely helpful right from the beginning. Answered all our questions promptly. Helped us book excursions and recommended activities that we hadn't thought of. Despite being minutes away from La Fortuna and the Fortuna waterfall, the property is very private and secure. The pool and patio are spectacular. We were 2 couples and played cards at night on the patio, with NO bugs!! The other couple stayed in the master bedroom and never needed the A/C. Fans kept the house cool. We cooked many of our meals. Kitchen is spacious and adequately stocked with cutlery/utensils/some spices. WIFI was excellent. For excursions, we went kayaking, per Heidy's recommendation. We saw crocodiles, monkeys, sloths and lots of birds. Highly recommend. We walked uphill (strenuous - 30-40 min) to the waterfall. Highly recommend paying the entrance fee and walking down to the waterfall. We hiked up the Arenal volcano with ecoterra. It was OK. Bike excursion near Lake Arenal was not great. Bikes/guide were good but not much to see. the Rainforest Cacao chocolate/cacao tour is a 5 minute walk from the house. HIGHLY recommend! Learned a lot. After the tour, you can eat as much chocolate with toppings as you want. (go on an empty stomach!) we rented a 4x4 with Adobe at the Liberia airport. Took about 2.5 hours to drive to the property. If we return to this area, we would definitely stay at Peter's house again!

This architectural marvel is positioned on perhaps the most beautiful road in this lovely country.
While there is space for 8-10 people in the house we prefer to offer the house to groups of no more than 6 so that everyone has the feeling of having plenty of space.
