About this property

On SIERPE RIVER - VILLA TRANQUILLO...2 beds, 2 baths, fully equipped, incl. A/C

Charming, Colorful, Fully Furnished Modern Villa With Private Boat Dock
Charming, colorful, fully furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom modern villa located on riverfront property with a private boat dock. This is Costa Rica at its most stunning and diverse, as it was 20 years ago, yet with all the features and comforts of home!

This is the place for an authentic Costa Rican adventure! Perfect for families, nature lovers, explorers and fishermen. See gorgeous wildlife from your front balcony and on trips along the river – scarlet macaws, toucans, spider and howler monkeys, sloths and other incredible species.

The sea is about 30 minutes away by boat. Bass, snook, red snapper, tuna, sailfish and marlin are just a few of the fish you can find, and reasonably priced guides are located in Sierpe village, less than 10 minutes from the house. Your guide can arrange for your catch to be freshly cooked at one of the local open-air restaurants overlooking the river.

Corcovado National Park, one of the most diverse biological corridors in the world, is just a boat ride away. Corcovado is known for its dolphin and whale populations. Cano Island, Drake’s Bay and the Osa peninsula offer stunning snorkeling, diving, and swimming on pristine beaches, as well as guided nature walks for all ages and abilities. You can arrange a tour at any of the local restaurants or through our house manager, Rayna. Rayna is from Virginia but has been in Costa Rica since 2005, speaks fluent Spanish and has lived in Sierpe for years. She can arrange all your tours, including fishing, trips to Corcovado, and fabulous cultural tours of local tribes, where you can learn about and purchase their tribal carved masks, as well as to the mysterious ancient spheres that are found here. If you are interested in turtles, a major conservation area is about 30-40 minutes away, along with a number of stunning Pacific beaches, caves and waterfalls. There's a packet of information at the house, and we'll be happy to share more information on any or all of these options

Sierpe town is not overpopulated with tourists and has retained a safe, friendly atmosphere not often found in the big resort towns.

This is a tropical paradise in a tranquil, scenic location!

NO Working Refrigerator No Amenities.

I arrived and the Refrigerator was NOT working. Had to throw out all perishable foods. Owner lives in Africa so communication is Awful. No property manager locally. Just a cleaning lady. NO soap or amenities at all in bathrooms. No dish soap. Nothing.. Terrible property management. Took 24 hours plus to get Wi-Fi password. I DO NOT recommend this owner.

The place was very nice by Sierpe standards. However the owner was not notified by VRBO which was a.

The information once there was sparse with no local contact. The owner did her best given she was in South Africa. I would say again now that I know how to solve issues like finding the circuit breaker by the road.

Great, almost isolated but within a mile from town.

Comfortable with available washer and dryer. Treated to a circus show from the squirrel? monkeys. Saw the town crocodile. Good spot to walk from.

Great Location

This property is in a great location for wildlife watching and taking trips. We saw more scarlet macaws in one day than I've seen in 2 decades of travelling Costa Rica. Rayna is a great help and even whatsapped us when a troop of squirrel monkeys were in the trees next to the property. Unfortunately I could only give 3 stars due to the state of the property which is in need of some TLC. The kettle did not work, there was a socket hanging off the wall on bare wires in the master bedroom. There were also bare wires hanging from the wall in the living area. The paintwork is in serious need of a touchup and the windows could do with a clean. If these issues were resolved, it would be a 5 star property.

Excellent choice!

I recently stayed there with my husband and baby, we loved the place, very spacious, comfortable, and our host Rayna was the best! Having breakfast and reading a good book on the terrace is simply breathtaking! We will definitely stay there again!

Room for improvement

We had a good time at Ana’s property. If you are looking for an adventure, Ana’s property is a good place to be. You can go to Drake bay, explore jungle and dive. The caretaker next door will help you to organize some trips . You definitely need a 4 wheel to explore the area. As far as house itself I have a mix feeling. It would be really good, if it would be cleaner. The spiderweb was thick , the window at the kitchen was very dirty, and it was some whater cooler left with water, with the temperature +35 C, you can imagine what was growing there... I personally think that whoever is in charge of looking after the place in Ana’s absence not doing a good job. Having said that, if this issue would be taking care of, the house itself, the way Ana communicates with her guests and location itself is good.

lovely, comfortable house with great activities nearby

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. We were able to view many different birds, monkeys etc from our front porch. We always do most of our meals in so appreciated having a well equipped kitchen. The AC was good and could be controlled in the separate bedrooms and living area. In addition, the caretaker/trip planner, Rayna, lives next door so was available for any questions but did not intrude on our privacy. She set up great tours and guides for Corcovado and night tours, as well as our rental car. We learned that she is able provide guidance and book for anything within Costa Rica and we would highly recommend contacting her for those needs

Very nice home , clean and roomy

The property was exactly as described. Nice roomy home with two bedrooms , two baths that are luxurious compared to many ( that is a nice change when traveling for a while!) The house is raised so there is not much problem with insects while sitting on the front porch . It is well equipped for cooking , watching birds and animals , bring a good pair of binoculars, you can see many birds and monkeys . It is close to Sierpe and the store there has anything you would need . Plenty to do in the area , Rayna will help you arrange tours or give you suggestions. It is also just a nice home for some relaxing time , we loved sitteringout in the morning with a cup of coffee watching the river flow and listening to wildlife. There is a big selection of DVDs if you would like some entertainment in the evening. The house also has a washer and dryer , another amenity appreciated after a month of travel . I can’t think of anything not to like about our stay! Communication was easy , no problems!

Beautiful, rural retreat with Scarlet Macaws in the garden!

Spacious, comfortable, clean and well-equipped house in a large garden overlooking a tranquil river. Breakfast on the terrace watching the birds and butterflies go by was a daily joy. Friendly, efficient communication with owners and Rayna, the property manager, who organised an excellent wildlife guide for a day.

A nice place to stay!

We (30 year old couple) spent 4 nights in this house which is located in a beautiful and peaceful area directly at the river. We spotted monkey families and red macaws in the garden nearly every day. Except for internet the house offered everything we needed. The property manager was very nice and booked tours to Cano Island (snorkeling) and to the Corcovado NP for us. Definitely a nice place to stay!

Down by the River

This house was well equipped, clean and very comfortable. The air conditioning was clutch due to the humidity in the South Pacific. The balcony is a great place to relax and observe the river. Shani, the property manager, was very helpful and managed to book some last minute tours the minute we landed. Hang out on the dock, and you'll find the river is an excellent place to check out some wildlife, especially the ibis and a gang of scarlet macaws. Unfortunately we did not spot any monkeys from the house, but we found some playing a quick boat trip up the river. Due to it's close proximity to Sierpe, this is a great location to begin any adventures on Rio Sierpe, Pacific Ocean, Osa, or Corocovado. Would be nice to have access to kayaks to explore the river more. And unfortunately the grill and internet were out of commission. But there's plenty of pots and an interesting DVD collection to keep you entertained in the evenings.

Perfect homebase for your Costa Rican adventure

Our family of 5 (including 2 adult children & daughter's fiance) stayed here for a week. We loved the area, the village of Sierpe--and the house was close enough to be accessible to the town for shops/restaurants & tour companies, but off the beaten path enough to be peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting on the porch & watching the river and the wildlife that visited us and listening to the birds & frogs. The house was clean and well-equipped and we would definitely return. We were able to do a lot of exploring and it was close enough to several beaches that we checked out several. (about 30-45 min drive).

Perfect Jungle Villa

My wife and I, our daughter and son-in-law and their baby all stayed here for two weeks and ventured out to waterfalls, beaches and visits to our son-in-law's family. It was great to relax in the morning on the deck and watch the Squirrel Monkeys swing through the trees and the birds wake up: Ibis, Egrets, Macaws, Parrots, Hummingbirds and more. This is a very wonderful home with a completely equipped kitchen. It has air conditioning throughout. The bathrooms are large and there is hot water in the showers, not a given in Costa Rica. There are guide books in the house for local places as well as a bird book which you will certainly want to use. Boats leave here for Corcovado Game Reserve where we saw Tapir, Couati, three species of monkeys, and sloths and many birds. This home is a great base for seeing the diversity of beaches, wildlife and culture on the Osa peninsula.

Lovely house in beautiful surroundings

We are a family of five with three children, 14, 12 and 7 years old, who stayed in this house for 9 days in june 2013. The house was the best house we stayed in during our 38-days vacation in Costa Rica: It was very clean and easy to keep clean, there were no mosquitos in the house because it is on the second floor (above mosquito-level) and because all the windows have mosquito nets, a very important factor for your well being. The beds were so nice (even with the 7-year old in the middle), the kitchen was well equiped (I baked bread several mornings, which was impossible elsewhere), it was a relief to be able to put on the aircondition once in a while and the two bathrooms were a big 'help' in the mornings. There is a lovely balcon where you can sit and enjoy both the beautiful view and the sounds of the animals and below the house there is both a washing machine and a dryer wich also is a big help when you are a family. The garden is a very big plus to the house. It is beautiful and our kids went out every morning to look for animals. They found scarlett macaws, big and small iguanas, raccoons, big blue and red crabs and in the river we saw crocodiles (not near the house though, but the neighbour had one on his bank one day!). Having the river so close to the house was really a speciel experience. Sometimes in the mornings two of the kids and I went down to sit on the little pontoon bridge to read or just to enjoy the incredible beautiful sights. We went for a tourist boatride and the river is very varied and lovely to go down by and it would have been nice if there was a boat or a kayak in the house for the guests. But the owner have told me that there will be, so it will be perfect for the next guests. The house, the garden and the river are beautiful and really nice, but there isn't much to do in the area if you don't want to spend a fortune on tourist tours (we found them very expensive compared to the east coast). But if you go for rides in your car, all the area have scenic views. You can also go by car to the isle of Osa, on the east side, and it is so pretty. We left the main road a couple of times and the nature is impressive and varies a lot. We also slept one night in Puerto Jiménez because we wanted to take a tour to Cabo Matapalo and both the beach and the tour (with Everyday Adventure) was just incredible. If Costa Rica wasn't so far away (we live in Denmark), we would come back soon and we would stay in this lovely house again.
