About this property

Silver Lake Cabin and Bunk House with North Woods Charm

Charming resort cabin with additional bunk house on beautiful Silver Lake! Very clean lake for great swimming, fishing and boating. Nice level lake shore in close proximity to cabin. The cabin is small but accommodating with open great room, one bedroom and 3/4 bath with shower, and beautiful fireplace. Can sleep 3-4 with queen bed in bedroom and full size futon in great room. The bunk house has a 1/2 bath, futon/sofa and 2 full sized beds in loft. There is an outside shower on the bunk house for rinsing off sandy feet. There is a convenient public boat launch next to property. The neighboring cabins are in close proximity but each faces a different direction for some privacy. Swimming and fishing off the dock is great! Paddleboat on shore available for your use.

Great location between Spooner, Hayward and Minong. Walking distance to Silver Lake Saloon. Also, very close Jack's canoe rental on the Namekogen River. The cabin is a short block off the Wild River Trail, great for ATV and snowmobile riding.

The bunkhouse is included in the price but an additional $50 cleaning fee applies. The bunk house is not available November through March. There is a 4 person limit for using the main cabin in the winter months.

Quaint Retreat

Very pleasant and quiet area to stay. Some ATV traffic and many types of wildlife to enjoy so overall we had fun. We enjoyed a couple fires and caught many good size fish to fillet and bring a couple bags frozen home with us. The locals are all very friendly and welcoming also. The cabin was supplied with everything we needed and even more so it made our stay one of the best so far in Northern Wisconsin. Tim and Debee Hinchey (Brother and Sister that enjoy good fishing.

Peaceful getaway

This cabin is quaint and cozy. I loved the extra space in the bunkhouse. The small lake meant few boats and little noise. Our hosts were very kind. We will be back!

Relaxing week on the lake

We enjoyed a relaxing week at the cabin. Our grandsons joined us for a couple days and liked having their own bunkhouse. There is a boat landing/beach access right next to the property but wasn't ever too busy during our stay.

Anniversary get away

The hubby and I had a great time! The cabin is so cute and had everything we needed! We loved hearing the loons in the morning with having coffee on the deck. During the day we had a bonfire and watched the dogs play on the beach. Nighttime had a fire in the fire place and cuddled in on the couch. We can’t wait to go back and bring the kids!

Relaxing Getaway

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint cabin! The cabin had everything we needed, and having a separate bunkhouse for an extra sleeping area was a bonus. The owners were great and quickly responsive to any questions and even provided us a place to park our boat trailer. The fishing was great for panfish even off the dock and we caught several northern and bass. There was a great supply of firewood for our evening campfires. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind!

First cabin stay

This was our first time up in this area. We absolutely loved it. Not only was it easy to find, it was easy to get to the grocery store. Our son caught his first fish! The paddle boat was so fun and an awesome included feature for us since we didn't have a boat or canoes. We will be back!

Cute Cabin, Needed some TLC

To make this short and sweet we ended up up leaving and did not stay at the property. It did not meet our expectations when it came to cleanliness. However, the owners were willing to work with us and have ensured that the issues we encountered have been taken care of to make sure future guest don't have the same experience.

Birkie week

Great little cabin close to Hayward for the Birkie. Host had a nice pile of firewood ready for us. Cozy on very cold day. They let us check in early due to a storm coming in. That helped!

Adequate

I’m a little surprised at the previous reviews feeling as if we may not have been in the same place! The host could not have been more approachable but the place was not as expected. There were no hard back chairs or small couch as was pictured. The futon completely fell apart rendering the small cabin crowded since the futon could not be folded into place. The host waived the pet “deposit” (not sure if it was refundable). The stove ran cold. The paddle boat was not in working order, but the host replaced on day 3. Kitchen was well stocked. While stated, the public boat landing was right next door. The kids did have a great time fishing.

Relaxing Getaway Very Nice Lakefront Property

We stayed a week with our dog and we absolutely loved it.While the property was in close proximity to other cabins, it was still very quiet and tranquil. The lake was good for swimming and fishing. We also went kayaking and it was perfect for that.We could hear the loons calling out every day in the morning and night and we really enjoyed that. We laid out on the dock to watch the meteor shower and we were not disappointed - the skywatching was great. It was nice to have the paddleboat there, and we took it out for a bit but we are seniors and our knees are not cut out for that anymore, but I can see how that would be a big hit with the kiddos! The cabin itself was very tidy, cozy and well equipped. We brought a lot of kitchen things with us only to find them already there, which was a nice surprise: plenty of trash bags, dish soap, TP, papertowels, coffee, spices, pots, pans, tupperware, plastic bags, foil, etc. Most of the places we rented in the past do not have all that there, but these hosts did,and we really appreciated that! Lots of towels and linens were supplied, too. My sister and her hubby came up for a couple days and stayed in the bunkhouse. They found it to be comfortable and cool on two really hot days, and they loved their stay, too. What made us very happy is that the yard is such that it provided somewhat of a natural fence with the tall wildflowers/cattails on the outskirts and so it was easy to keep our dog inside the property when off leash. Loved it!!

Wonderful vacation week!

We stayed at this property for our 4th of July vacation. It was exactly what we needed. Husband and I stayed in the main cabin while the “kids” slept out in the bunk house (11, 17 and 19) They enjoyed their own space and so did we! The interior of the main cabin is so cute and very clean. Loved the rustic feel with modern amenities. The kitchen was well stocked, There wasn’t anything we looked for that they didn’t have! Water was nice and hot as well for showers and washing dishes! The lake itself is small, but the perfect size for paddling (we brought our own kayaks and paddle board, but there is a nice pedal boat provided) We also brought our keys who and it was perfect for pulling g the kids tubing out going out to the middle for a deep swim! There is a swim platform at the end of the dock that got plenty of use by us as well! The kids enjoyed fishing from the dock, near the boat launch and our deep. They caught mostly Bass and panfish. Yes, the neighbors are close, but it never felt that way. The public beach and boat landing are right next to the property but even over the Fourth of July it wasn’t crazy there! Everyone was very nice, friendly and respectful. We met the owners and they were extremely nice and offered help with anything we needed. There’s a saloon down the road, atv trails run right by the property, and Spooner, Trego, Minong and even Hayward were just a short drive away. Location was great. We will absolutely be back again!

Warm and cozy cabin!

We got in after dark and the owners brought us a trunk full of firewood so we could have a fire. It was a great gesture! We then had an emergency at home and had to leave early. Karen and Steve offered us a free night the next time we came. They went above and beyond for us and I was so impressed by their kindness and hospitality. Would highly recommend them

Cute and cozy cabin

Adorable small cabin with a great fireplace. Not the most attractive setting, but very close to boat launch, ATV and hiking trails. Small, quiet lake. Host was friendly; good at communicating with us and answering questions. We enjoyed our stay.

Great place to make our home base

We sure enjoyed this cute cozy cabin! My husband, teen, and I stayed here for a weekend in September. We did not utilize the bunkhouse, as we did not need to. He enjoyed fishing... caught many fish off the dock & the boat landing (and also up North on the Brule River). He didn't catch anything the first night, but between Saturday night and Sunday morning - he caught : 2 large mouth bass, about a dozen good sized sunfish, and 2 northern Pike. My daughter and I enjoyed hiking nearby at the Trego Nature Trail, and the Trego Lake Trail. It rained off and on during the weekend, but we still enjoyed our time there. Karen, the owner, was responsive to our questions, and offered suggestions when we asked about local places to hike. We didn't use the pedal boat, but DID take advantage of the firewood to have a bonfire one night. My only suggestion would be to maybe cover up the firewood? It was hard to get it going after it rained all day. plenty of towels, blankets, dishes, utensils, etc... Appreciated the supply of spices, aluminum foil, sandwich bags, etc... I also was thankful for 2 large fans at the cabin - because I cannot sleep without white noise! The water pressure was great! My teenager slept on the pull-out futon couch, and thought it was very comfy. She said the Internet worked good. We did have to reset it once, but it worked well overall. She also enjoyed playing darts, and putting together a puzzle she found there. Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful cabin on the lake

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Trego cabin and lake house! The lake was beautiful and the cabin/lake house were clean, well stocked with essentials in the kitchen and bathrooms. The kids loved taking the pedal boat out on the lake and making s'mores over a fire in the fire pit. The lake house was an amazing bonus space for the kids (all teenagers) where they could have time to themselves. The Grottings were responsive to all our questions and requests...perfect hosts. Highly recommend this beautiful place up North. We hope to return soon!

Charming Wisconsin Cottage

We had a great stay at this lovely cabin and it was so nice to be able to bring our dogs. The fishing was good and we enjoyed being able to lay out on our rafts off the dock. We drove to Duluth and rode on Duluth Zephyr which was only about an hour away. While we used the gas grill several times for dinner, we can also recommend eating at the Prime Bar and Family Dining in Trego and Friday night fish fry at Tracks Bar and Grill in Spooner.

Host profile image
We are married with 4 adult children and 1 grandchild. We live in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities. The cabin has been an easy commute. Our best family time has been spent at this special place. Memories of waterfront fun, fishing, boating, campfires and cabin games have carved a special place in our hearts. As our family grows with spouses, significant others and more grandchildren, we needed something bigger and were lucky to land a spot on the same beautiful lake. Happy with our new spot but not yet ready to part with this beautiful gem. VRBO seems like a good fit for now. Hope you enjoy as we have!!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the area. The hills of Lampson are absolutely beautiful. Silver Lake has a pristine quality that we couldn't find elsewhere. We have enjoyed the family of loons, the nesting bald eagles. The gradual slope of the sandy beach is ideal for swimming and the proximity from cabin to the water is ideal! The surrounding area has everything you need, conveniently located between Hayward, Spooner and Minong.

What makes this property unique

The ability to walk out the door and be on the dock in seconds is the best!
