About this property

Comfortable Convenient Unique Condo, Cruz Bay St John, Ocean View, Free Parking

Convivare at Conch Villas is a spacious and well appointed condominium. Beautiful view of the ocean from the sun room and screen porch. Unique legacy Brazilian hardwood construction. Parking included. 10 minute walk to vibrant bars, restaurants, taxi stand and ferry dock. Conch Villas is close in yet quiet due to the residential neighborhood it is in and its location just around Battery Hill from downtown. All linens provided.

We pick you up at the Ferry landing and return you to the ferry dock at the end of your stay, or make other arrangements you desire.

The layout: One bedroom with queen bed and picture window view of bougainvillea, distant hills and sky. Living room with queen sleep sofa. Each bed has private access to bath with shower and vanity. Complete kitchen and dining area, large living room with four large doors opening onto a sun room with ocean view. Screen porch with dining set and sofa for enjoying the Caribbean air and light. Professionally landscaped grounds with palm trees and flowering plants. At night enjoy the sound of waves splashing on Turner Bay shore below you. There are only 5 units to the complex which enhnces the quiet nature of the property. Washer and dryer available.

Beach chairs, snorkel gear and beach towels provided. We have Internet and TV.

In our sustainability efforts we have invested in an 8 hour battery back up power to cover any outages by the local power authority. The power company will on occasion rotate 4 hour blackouts around the island when they have trouble meeting demand, so the battery back up addresses this issue. So far this season we have not had blackouts. In addition the battery's inverter insures smooth power and prevents power spikes and brownouts, which are harmful to appliances. This first phase of battery back up will be completed end of February, and is compatible with solar power that will be added in phase two.

Rent a car if you like, or take the short walk to the safari taxis in town to access the North Shore beaches. Or Kelly can arrange a taxi to come get you at the Villas. The easiest route to town is to turn right as you come out of the complex and down the gentle slope to Sea Shore Alllure where you turn left to walk along the car ferry pond into downtown. Two grocery stores are a short walk away and we supply a grocery cart to make shopping easier. There is reserved on site parking for your rental car during your visit either in the lot or in the leased space next door.

More about the unit. Fully air conditioned with separate AC units for bedroom and another for living room, sunroom and kitchen. Or enjoy the breeze on the screen porch. Sleeps up to 4. The master bedroom has a queen bed, closet, clothes chest and private access to the full bath with tiled shower and vanity. Use the sleep sofa for a second couple or the kids: this room also has separate private access to the bathroom through the sunroom. Both bedroom and sleep sofa area have privacy.

Conch Villas was constructed in 1986 using rare Brazilian hardwoods, which are maintained inside Convivare. The siding and interior walls are made of IPE (green heart) from the Para province, just south of the Amazon Delta, from a Brazilian exporter in Belem using wood from enviromentaly friendly cutters. The shutters are made of JATOBA a wood even stronger than IPE and is mainly used as floor boards in Brazil. The shutters were prefabricated at a factory in BELEM. The hardware of unique Brazilian design, hinges etc. was also fitted in Belem. Some shutters were repaired with mahogany after Irma. The Conch Villas grounds are designed into a garden by Property King, the highly regarded local landscaping firm. The stonework includes numerous conch shells cemented into the walls: it is after all Conch Villas!

Impromptu visits by peacocks and goats can be expected. The outdoor Conch Villas security camera is above the porch and monitors the common walkway up into the grounds. The name “Convivare” comes from the original Danish owner of this unit who installed a name plaque on the front door.

Tall ceilings and southern exposure allow abundant light into the unit, or close the four folding doors and window shutters for extra privacy. High speed Internet dedicated to this unit, with cable television. A small bar with stools faces into the kitchen. Beach chairs and cooler are provided for your days on St. John’s incomparable beaches.

As garbage collects please secure it in a tightly tied garbage bag and leave just inside the front door. Text Kelly 940-453-0421 that you have garbage and one of our team will come by and collect it.

looks better in [person

The place looks better in person than in the pics. We didn't hang around much, mostly morning coffee and evening relaxing after a busy day. It was a cute place. There were a few maintenance issues, but they did not impact our stay too much. I walked to town one day, and it was not too difficult. Parking in town is difficult, so the walk was nice.

A brand new experience

The island and the place were very intriguing. The level of relaxation were amazing. The people on the island , and especially the people that handled the care of the house were amazingly kind . Any problems we had were handled immediately. I forgot a computer case and they made an extra effort to get it on the ferry. We would definitely come back to the island and this place!

Felt like home

This property is exactly as depicted and described. No surprises other than how equipped it was with everything and anything we needed! Hosts were excellent communicators and met us at the ferry upon arrival. Conch Villa was a 0.2 mile walk over to town so no need drive in at all, and the neighborhood felt safe enough to do so. Parking on-site was perfect. Our beach days were without flaw as the host had everything from beach chairs to snorkels to beach towels and a cooler. Kitchen was fully stocked with any needed tool or appliance right down to the ziplock bags. There was even an umbrella ready to use for those quick 15 minute rainfalls. Most of all, we loved the cozy feel of the villa; full of warmth and character, not a cookie cutter hotel room. The open air porch was peaceful to sit on with coffee or a drink in the evening. AC and WiFi all worked seamlessly and the washer and dryer, while shared outside of the unit, were convenient to have on-site.

Conch Villas - Excellent time in USVI

My wife and I spent one week in St John and stayed at the Conch Villas. We had an outstanding time. The choice of the Conch Villas was excellent. The location featured Brazilian Rosewood, inside and out. If you are a guitar player or Luthier, you really need to see this place... Martin and Taylor eat your hearts out... the site was conveniently located and was walkable to Cruz Bay. It was clean, well setup, and pretty much had all of the items needed for a fun filled vacation, including beach chairs and a cooler. We mixed eating in and eating out to stretch our bucks, and the kitchen was well furnished meeting all of our needs, The site manager, Kelly, was awesome; communications were easy and frequent and assistance was always quick and friendly. Loved St John and the Conch Villas. Look forward to returning in the future. Highly recommended!

Close to Cruz Bay

We were met at the ferry by a really nice person from the villa making check in seamless. Our questions were answered promptly before and during our trip. The villa itself is very homey and affordable. We enjoyed having beach chairs and snorkel equipment right there. Proximity to Cruz Bay was nice. Walking to dinner is possible, however, be sure to note that St John is very hilly, so you might want to use the car if you're not up to some serious inclines. Another plus for this rental is dedicated parking.

Fantastic in every way

Calming interior and lovely vista! Nice having the option of fast but steep route or the longer but moderate hill back into town. Very nice having fans and AC option. Everything very clean. Fun books and maps on shelves. Great layout, and plenty of towels and cooking implements. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful stay

Meet up with the contract went smoothly. Picked us up from the ferry. Explained the best way to get to town. It is not a long walk into town and we felt safe walking. Enjoyed the stay at the house and our trip to st.john would definitely recommend. My one negative is the lack of TV options, so I would recommend to bring a fire stick, or Roku stick. Also the TV volume seemed low if the ac was going on. Not that we watched a lot of TV as we spent all day at the beaches.

Walk to Cruz Bay

This condo is the perfect location if you want to walk to Cruz Bay or the grocery store. Both less than 1/2 mile. Of course, there are a couple VERY steep hills so if you have mobility issues, this may not be the place for you. Entrance to condo also has steep stairs. We welcomed the exercise though and walked to town everyday. We appreciated the pantry items left which included coffee. The kitchen had everything we needed when we did decide to cook. There were plenty of bath and beach towels, chairs, snorkeling gear, even sunblock. Each morning we watched the sunrise while sitting on the porch. We loved visiting with all the neighborhood cats, roosters, and hens too. We enjoyed the location of this condo and would definitely stay again.

This property is old, grubby and dark. Please ask the owner to replace the bed pillows- housekeeping came as we were checking out and removed the pillow cases in prep for laundry, and I was appalled at how yellow and stained they were. I was afraid to check out the mattress. The extra amenities, such as beach chairs, cooler, flippers etc. were broken or falling apart. The place felt dark and depressing and everything seemed old and shabby. The shower door was water and soap stained and did not appear to have been cleaned in a while. Looking through bath cabinets to find hair dryer meant sorting through all sorts of old lotion bottles and other detritus. The place needs a thorough dejunking and cleaning and upgrading. Condiments in fridge are of indeterminable age.

Our Stay at Convivare

This property was wonderful and convenient. Very well maintained, loved the beautiful hard wood, and the stone wall in one area that added character to the interior. It is in a quiet area and within walking distance to the grocery store and down town. We felt safe walking around. It is fully equipped with everything you should need. They made sure that we would have our morning coffee without rushing out to the grocery store on arrival. Plenty of coffee & creamers. Check the fridge and food cupboards before you go to the grocery store, you will be surprised by everything they contain. Plenty of lovely soft towels, including those for the beach. Having breakfast in the SCREENED porch looking out over the ocean was very special, we spent alot of time relaxing there. Rained one day but the sunroom was nice to sit in and watch the rain while we relaxed. Kelley & George thought of everything that made our stay unforgettable, including having someone pick us up at the ferry. Questions were responded to quickly. Thank you for making us feel welcome. PS: There is a free parking space for your car next to the steps to your vacation home.

We had a wonderful stay at this sweet condo. It was perfect for two people. When we arrived we were picked up at the ferry, and dropped off again when we left for home. So we had no need for a car at all. There is a screened in porch and we spent a lot of time there having coffee, reading, and watching the car ferries go back and forth. The apartment has many windows and we kept them open and had the fans running, so no need for air conditioning. Only problem is that sometimes the ferries make noise early in the morning and wake you up if the windows are open. There are also roosters running wild and they wake you up but we didn't mind that. It was actually really nice. The walk to town, where all the restaurants, shops and bus taxis are, is about 15 minutes. We didn't mind the walk because it gave us some exercise. There is one steep hill to walk up, but it is short. It can be too much for older people but then you can take a little bit longer route which is easier. Be aware also that there are some difficult steps up to the apartment, which could be a problem for people who have trouble walking. The apartment had everything we could possibly need. Would not mind going back. Met lots of interesting nice people and made lovely memories:) Most of all we felt safe at all times. Stunning island.

Staying at the Convivare was an amazing experience! A beautiful sun room overlooking the ocean makes for a totally tranquil start of the day… The interior is well-maintained, with a charming decor (dark wood with turquoise accents), and a nice kitchen. The unit even provides snorkeling gear and other accessories to make your day trips to the beach more enjoyable. There are so many magical moments to be had in St John, from snorkeling to visiting ruins, but staying here was among the best of all our experiences!

Host profile image
we are a married couple who have loved and visited st john since 1995.

the photo shows us at maho bay beach. the donkeys know we have apples and want to get acquainted.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this unit to own a piece of paradise, which st john definitely is even after tough Hurricane Irma. So much to do here. The large national park ensures that there will never be helter skelter development like st thomas (and we love st thomas). Numerous beaches to explore, many interesting trails to hike. Spend the day in the park, Coral Bay, Salt Pond or east end, then relax in Cruz Bay. Or get out on the water in a kayak, yacht, speed boat, snorkeling adventure, or trip to the BVI. We originally stayed at Maho Bay Camps, a fine well developed eco-campground which was lost a few years back to an individual buyer who closed the camps.

Our goal with Convivare was to provide an excellent short term rental property in a place, Conch Villas, that has incredible old era Danish charm and easy walking access to the ferry landing and restaurants.

What makes this property unique

easy walk to town, classic architecture, comfortable quarters, all amenities, ocean views, parking. if you want to visit st john and be close to town, this is in town but in a quiet residential section.
