About this property

Lakefront Midcoast Maine retreat-Damariscotta Lake

Welcome to our family camp! Although our camp (Mainespeak for cottage) has been on the shore of Damariscotta Lake for over 50 years, it was completely rebuilt in 2018. It was carefully designed as a modern family retreat-professionally decorated and stocked with quality linens and kitchen supplies.
Relax at camp with plenty of sleeping space for everyone-2 king masters with attached baths and 2 bunk rooms for the kids.
The boathouse has everything you need to enjoy the lake-adult and child kayaks, stand up paddle boards, canoe, life vests, and beach towels. You can keep your powerboat at our dock. There are many local options for boat rental.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the screened porch listening to loons just steps away on the lake. Paddle the coves of the lake, fish off the dock, dig for clams along the shore, and roast marshmallows under the Maine sky.
Explore local harbors, visit lighthouses, enjoy a lobster roll at a nearby pier, rummage for antiques at the village shops, and hike the rugged Maine coast trails. Our camp is your home base for family adventures in Midcoast Maine.

Wonderful stay!

We loved the home and the location! Perfect for rowing in the off season. Loved the loons calling from all areas of the lake, the dock for watching the sunset and soaking up the early fall sun, and the comfort of the house. We will be back!

Birthday/Anniversary Weekend for Parents

We had a fantastic four day stay to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday and my parent's 61st wedding anniversary! Damariscotta Lake holds a special place in our family's hearts as we had a cabin nearby for nearly 30 years. The quiet location on the cove is spectacular and the cabin itself is adorable! Plenty of room for three couples and a teenager! The cabin was well stocked with basic supplies, sheets/towels, cookware, smart tv and internet to make everyone feel at home. We enjoyed the fire pit nightly as well as fishing from the dock! This is a unique spot for a multi-generational getaway that will please the whole family! Many thanks to our owner, Leigh, who was always clear and timely in her communications and helpful with instructions and recommendations! We hope to return again to enjoy this beautiful spot during the summer months!

Beautiful house on a beautiful lake

We had an amazing week at this house. We love Damariscotta Lake and have rented on this lake for the last five years but this was one of our favorite places we’ve stayed. Going through the campground to get to the house is a little strange at first but once you’re on the property it’s perfect. We rented a boat and had a fun time tubing. Everything you need at the house to sleep 2 families with kids plus a bonus sleeping nook which we used for our friends who ended up staying one night. Loved the big tables for meals or games. Would stay here again!

Magical Damariscotta summer trip

This is a gorgeous cabin. Wonderfully decorated and so cozy. I loved the large wooden serve boards to serve cheese and fruit with cold drinks on the screened porch in the late afternoons, sitting under the porch fans and enjoying the view from our rockers. Today on the lake we saw a giant bald eagle nest and several eagles flying overhead. We stopped the boat and gazed at them. We also have seen at least a dozen loons and a loon chick out with her parents. My husband went out bass fishing this morning with a local fishing guide and caught (and released) a number of large and small mouthed bass. My boys could kayak, paddle board, and swim all day. The water is perfect for swimming right off the dock. We had so much fun exploring the local harbor towns, we especially loved hiking in Camden Hills State Park. This has been such a magical and special vacation for our family, we barely turned on the TV. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous family cabin and such a special slice of Maine. We will be back!

Doesn't get better than this!

This property is beautiful! Went beyond my expectations. I texted the property person about a noise the water was making and my text was responded to immediately. Great for kids as it has 6 bunk beds. We had only adults but everyone wanted to meet at our place. Highly recommend this!!

Best rental we have ever stayed at!

This property is exactly as depicted in the photos. Beautifully decorated and has a wonderful view of the lake. We especially appreciated the supplies provided - starter TP, laundry detergent, kitchen towels, spices, cleaners, beach towels. Lots of dishes, glasses, pots and pans, etc. It made it very easy to prepare meals. The house comes with two kayaks and three paddle boards with life vests. We rented a double kayak and one more single from Mid Coast Kayak Rental. The lake was a little choppy due to wind during our stay but we were able to get out on it several times. FYI, there are two Hannaford grocery stores nearby - a smaller one in Waldeboro which is closer (15 minutes) and a larger one in Damariscotta (20 minutes). If you need more firewood, the Damariscotte store is the only one that sells it. We took a little day trip to Camden and Camden Hills State Park - a charming town! We were all very very happy with our stay at Spear Camp!

Great Stay on Damariscotta Lake

The area is wonderful, the lake-front location of the property is spectacular. The house is real gem, one of the newest, well appointed, brightest and cleanest places we have ever rented. The amenities provided by the owners, grill, kayaks, dock, to name a few were, covered all our needs very well. The modern, well equipped dock was especially appreciated. Topping it all off, the owners were a pleasure to work with.

Best Lake Anywhere

While we have been coming to Damariscotta Lake for over 20 years, this was our first visit to the Spears Camp. Now I know where we will come back every year. This home is stunning and met our needs better than any lake home we have stayed in. The beds are very comfortable and the bed linens and towels were perfect. The house is roomy and so comfortable. The kitchen is perfectly stocked and has everything you will ever need. The waterfront and dock were perfect for our boat, for fishing and for swimming. We loved hanging out by the waterfront and the sunsets were magnificent. If this house wasn't already perfect enough, add central A/C and you've got a bit of heaven. This lakefront home is the place we have been searching for for over 20 years. Now we've found it and won't look anywhere else!! Thanks, Leigh, for a wonderful, wonderful week and letting us use your beautiful homes. Tim and Bonnie Dinsmore P.S. The colors in this home are incredible. Love your taste!!

We would go back

We loved our stay. The beds are very comfortable. Showers are great. Great for a family. Sadly we were not lucky with the weather so we couldn't take advantage of the lake. Then the internet did not work so well, as a result we could not watch television. This may be a problem with the area, and the lack of broadband.

September in Maine is the best

Spear Camp is the best lakeside vacation house we've stayed at: spacious, well-lit and airy, well-equipped, in a gorgeous setting. The home is beautifully laid out for extended family to both have some privacy and to gather together. The dock and mooring made use of our small sailboat easy, and the water toys were a great bonus. Damariscotta Lake is terrific for both paddling and sailing, and is quiet after Labor Day - with loon and bald eagle sightings!

Amazing House!

What a gem! This is a beautifully appointed, comfortable, and fully stocked house on a gorgeous lake. Located in a quiet and remote location, we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The best part was discovering the boathouse that was fully equipped with kayaks, paddle boards, and life vests. We had so much fun exploring the lake and wildlife. Great host! Would definitely stay there again.

COVID 2020 Summer Vacation

We have stayed on the lake many times over the years and we loved this property, all new construction and a great new dock on the lake. Central AC was available and needed for the hot and humid days but the lake water was fantastic to cool off in as well during the days. Plenty of loons and ducks were heard and seen. I would highly recommend this property and would come back again.

Beautiful spot!

This lakefront home is a gem. We loved every minute of our stay here. The owner Leigh was so helpful and responsive, her home is perfect and comfortable for a large family with a very well equipped kitchen and a screened porch with a big table where we could all gather. We spent most of our time on the dock or lounging in the Adirondack chairs outside. The paddle boards and kayaks were so fun to paddle around the lake right outside the door. My family had a perfect vacation here and we have fallen in love with Maine. We are planning our next visit!

Charming home on lake Damariscotta

This is a lovely property, terricially decorated on a large lake. We enjoyed quiet days kayaking and reading, and some evenings in the town which has some good restaurants and fabulous oysters. I would highly recommend this house to friends. It would be a lovely family reunion place.

A truly AMAZING home and experience!!!!

This home is more than 5 stars in my opinion! It is a very functional layout and SO cozy and beautifully finished out!! It is maybe 20 steps from the dock and the lake water is so clear and clean! The cove is tucked away from fast boats and the sunsets are GORGEOUS! You can enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding daily and even rent a boat! The view from this home and the screened in porch were relaxing and beautiful! I cannot say enough about this HOME...I miss it so much and wish it were mine! The area towns and lighthouses were so fun to visit! Lake, ocean, small towns, incredible history, old diners, whoopie pies, farm stands, blueberries, relaxing, swimming, cooking and laughing, playing games and hearing the incredible loons! YOU SHOULD GO!!!!! You won't regret your time at this gorgeous GORGEOUS property and area! WONDERFUL hosts and history here!

Idyllic!

We had an amazing time at this beautiful home! It is brand new and so lovely. Very thoughtfully designed and had everything we needed for our stay. We loved taking the kayaks and paddle boards out from the private dock just steps out the back door. We saw and heard several loons on the lake which was such a treat. The home is just beautiful and we loved every minute! This is a wonderful quiet wooded retreat on a lovely lake. We can’t wait to return!
