About this property

Rustic mountain retreat - escape to a hand-built cabin in the woods

Geronimo Cabin is a 2-bedroom (sleeps 2-5), handcrafted log cabin on a 200-acre developing eco-preserve in the heart of the Sierra Nevadas. Offering peace, quiet, and a chance to reconnect to the beauty of wild nature, Geronimo Cabin is the perfect glamping-style getaway for couples, families, and small groups seeking a rustic retreat in the forest.

PLEASE NOTE: Geronimo Cabin does not have its own bathroom or hot water. There is a guest bathroom a short walk away at the main house with a hot shower, sink, and flush toilet, as well as clean outhouses closer to the cabins.

Geronimo Cabin is equipped with a 4-burner gas stove, mini fridge, sink with cold running water,, dining table and chairs, and numerous cookware and utensils. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed and dresser and there is a large couch in the main room which can sleep an additional guest. Outside there is a shared picnic area with charcoal BBQ, fire pit, large picnic table and chairs for gathering.

There is also a wood stove for heating with firewood and kindling provided. Directions for how to operate the wood stove are posted in the cabins, but if you would like assistance please let us know.

Please note the fee listed is for two people. For each additional guest there is a charge of $25.

PET POLICY: Your well-behaved pets are welcome for a fee of $10 per pet, per night. Please note there may be other guests with pets on the property, so any pets you bring must get along with other animals and people.

CELL RECEPTION/INTERNET ACCESS: There is little to no cell reception on the entire property. Consider your stay an opportunity to disconnect from the virtual world and unwind. However, there is wifi available outside the main house if you need (a short walk away from the cabins).

SHARED SPACES: Geronimo, Shamballa, and Trinity Cabin are in close proximity, with communal fire pits, large charcoal BBQ (bring your own charcoal), a 16-foot slab picnic table and chairs nearby. If there are guests in the other cabins, please be mindful of sharing these spaces and keeping noise to a minimum. Serenity and Radiance cabins offer more privacy.

SMOKING/FIRE SAFETY: During high fire season (summer and early fall) we must be extremely careful with fires and smoking. Smoking is allowed on the cabin decks, fire pit and picnic areas, and in your vehicle but not in the outback on trails as it is prohibited by the local forest service.

OUTDOOR FIRE PITS: If you would like to build a fire in the outdoor pit there is a firewood fee of $20 per hour. **Please check in with us at the main house before you use the outdoor pit.***

Come see us at the main house for any questions between 8am and 9PM.

A great time, as always.

It is a beautiful place in a beautiful forest with plenty of places to hike, swim, or just hang around. The host is warm and makes you feel like family. We'll definitely go back again.

Fantastic

We rented multiple cabins for a business retreat. There is no better place to detach from the office to focus on team dynamics and collaboration. The cabins are situated in a stunning forest, which adds a sense of peace and calm to the dynamics. Thanks for the hospitality!

Snowed out but great communication

Adam was very communicative and helpful as we navigated an attempt to get to the cabin in the midst of the Big Storm of December 2021! He made sure we were prepared for the trip and ultimately had to let us know the conditions had left the roads unsafe. We'll try again!

Stunning property in the woods

This was an absolutely beautiful property. It was very easy to check in and the energy was relaxed and peaceful. Definitely the place to go if you want an escape from your phone and regular daily life. The trails around the property are great and the cabins are immaculately built. Our only feedback is with the shower in the Main house. It was not very clean but other than that we were very pleased with our stay. Would definitely come back! Thank you!

just what the doctor ordered!

Loved our time at Wisdom Retreat|Geronimo Cabin! We needed a break from city, work, the "electronic leash" and wanted to be out in nature, hiking, near snow without a major undertaking. It was perfect. This is definitely glamping, replete with running water, electric lights, pre-cut wood for the stove, a bed. And our pup was welcome. We did not appreciate we would be off the grid (i.e., no phone signal), but that made it all the better. The only wrinkle was with finding our way once the GPS could not connect. Driving instructions could be a bit more detailed. Also recommend a printed map for backup. We loved the clear and dark skies for sun and star gazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet. Thank you.

Blissful

My husband, brother and I rented this cottage when it became clear that it wouldn’t be safe to return to the east coast for thanksgiving. The wood burning stove, fire pit, and stunning forest were a perfect tonic for a very strange time. We would love to return here!

Peaceful retreat

Wonderful escape at the Wisdom Retreat. We spent three days at the different spots suggested by Adam along the South Yuba River. We enjoyed the beautiful log cabin architecture and the kitchen in Geronimo was perfect for our needs. The outhouse is just behind the cabin and was not a big deal for us. We enjoyed coming back after a day at the river, making dinner and doing the provided puzzles in the cabin. Our dog was welcomed and even though she is a city dog she really enjoyed the experience. We did the walk around the grounds after dinner, we recommend getting that in during your stay.

Sweet little cabin in the trees

This is a great place to get out in the woods and relax. Adam is a kind and thoughtful steward of the land and incredibly generous and welcoming. The cabins are beautifully built and make for a cozy stay. A real gem!

Cabin(s) in the Woods

This is a fantastic place to stay! The cabins are beautifully and artfully designed by the hands of the owner, Adam, who he himself was amazingly hospitable. The only reason I’m giving a rating of 4 is that one of our nights was overbooked but Adam was still generously able to accommodate us in one of his unfinished cabin which was surely adequate for the 2 nights my sister and I were there. I will bring my husband back to stay.

My boyfriend and I went on a surprise getaway to this beautiful cabin

There are theee cabins and it’s clear that the owners have poured their heart and soul into handcrafting them. The setting is beautiful and among lush trees and all of the relaxing sounds, smells and feelings that come with. We visited Nevada City for lunch and celebratory cocktails then dipped our feet into the gorgeous Yuba River just a few minutes away. Our dog Jack came along and was fully welcome and seemed to have a great time as well. The owners are close and very welcoming and give 100% privacy while being open to visitors at the main house as well. I highly recommend this getaway for couples, families with children as we left ours behind this time but discovered many things that they would love and enjoy! The pictures really don’t do justice, these cabins are gorgeous and right out of a tahoe quarterly magazine - quaint, rustic and relaxing!!!! Memories to last a lifetime.

About the host

Hosted by Adam DeFranco

Host profile image
I have lived in this area of Northern California for over 30 years and run this developing retreat center with others who also live on this expansive land. I worked in the field of psychology for a few years and then developed my own company selling rustic building materials and the building of smaller log cabins.

Why they chose this property

This property of 200 acres has one main house/lodge and 3 smaller cabins/cottages built and almost fully completed for visitors and workshop guest.
This area is exceptionally beautiful and rural with wild life and extensive forest and open meadows.

What makes this property unique

Geronimo Cabin is hand crafted with local logs and hand peeled with love and expertise. The trails here and around the property offer peace and wildlife viewing.
We now have by the 3 cabins a shared group picnic area with a large charcoal BBQ, a massive 16 foot slab table, a fire pit and misc. chairs for family gathering and group workshops.
