Hayward is a popular fishing destination because of the many lakes in the area. Hayward is home to the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame contained within the 200-foot (61 m) long tribute to the Musky. During the Christmas season, Santa Claus can often be found looking over the town from the musky's mouth.

In addition to fishing, Hayward is also a hot spot for deer hunting, golfing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and road & mountain biking. Hayward is the site of numerous festivals and events. Great Getaway!

We went to Musky Joe's in search of catching a Musky with our 7 year old son. While we were there we caught a variety of fish and had a fantastic time! Cassidy was great to work with and accommodated all of our needs. We used the canoes, kayaks, and motor boat in our musky quest. This was a quiet and relaxing place to spend some quality family time together. We will definitely be back, as we are still aiming to catch Big Chippie, that illusive Musky!

This is a nice little cabin. There are several other cabins nearby but you don't feel cramped. Nice access to the lake and Hayward is only a short drive.

Beautiful lakeside cabin

The cabins have that nostalgic resort feel. The property managers were really helpful. The property is great if you want peaceful seclusion, but also has the opportunity to meet new people if you choose. We had a great time fishing from the boat we rented on property and then paddling around in the bay on the pade boat provided. Don't miss building a fire at the campsite fire ring and making s'mores!

Home away from home

Can't say enough about Musky Joe's. They have been in business for over 50 yrs and is the best place to stay in Hayward. If you're looking for that great rustic cabin to stay in then Musky Joe's is the place for you. Keep up the great work Cassie and we will see you again next year.

Excellent

Everything was perfect, from the location to the attentiveness of our hosts. Cabins were great, well stocked and have everything you need for cooking. Fishing from the docks is actually pretty great at the time we went (late May). We will be coming back.

Well worth the price but can definitely use improvements.

Cassidy was very nice and accommodating. The only problems we’re that we had no towels, dish soap, no cable and no Wi-fi. These items were all listed as amenities. Other than that we would stay again for sure.

Nice location. Could use some upgrades

Overall we had a great time in spite of the inclement weather. A few minor enhancements would make the cabin much more enjoyable. The beds were small and uncomfortable, and the toilet didn't work very well. The location was awesome and when the weather cleared we enjoyed the access to a fabulous body of water with the Chippewa Flowage.

If you want to get away this is the place. Cozy resort right on the water. Within a short drive to casino, great restaurants, a wildlife zoo. This area has it all including Musky Joe's resort. Awesome weekend. Will be back.

Clean and functional. Give the new owner some time to master the resort business!

Based on the description, I don't think we were given the Bass Cottage as the pictures and bed numbers do not match the cabin we were placed in. The cabin we did stay in was very clean and functional. The appliances were older models, but worked well. There was no "old cabin" musty or smoke smell. The dock was sturdy and well protected in the bay. Unfortunately, we did not have a reason to use the fish cleaning facilities. The boat landing was fine for our boat. The owner was friendly and helpful. Probably the biggest negative was the shower. For anyone over 5'7'', the shower head height is problematic. Also the space itself was very small. I am 6'1'' and my son is 6'5" which made it difficult to shower. There was no room to bend over to get under the shower head (think phone booth if you are old enough to have used one). The listing states that there is an outdoor grill; there was none and I was wishing we had brought our own. The bed I used needs to be on the short list for replacement. Overall, for the money, it was a fine place and we would most likely return. Once the new owner gains more confidence, I'm sure the little things will work themselves out.

About the host

Greetings and Snowy Winter to you all!!!
For those of you that don't know me, I am the older granddaughter of the creators of Musky Joe's Twin Pines Resort. (Cassy Wilkozek) I spent my childhood on the resort learning the business from Grandpa Nory and Grandma Gen. Grandma and Grandpa cleared the land and hand built the resort over 60 years ago.

Grandma grew up in Hayward and learned the business from HER grandparents (the original owners of Lost Land Lake Lodge.) Grandpa grew up in Chicago and fell in love with the area on family vacations at Big Musky Resort. Great Grandpa (Musky Joe) bought some land up here and decided to try his hand at the resort business. He and his son (Nory) began clearing and building, Grandma and Grandpa met when Grandpa picked up lumber at the local lumber yard that Grandma was working at as a bookkeeper. They fell in love, married and planted twin pines on the point in honor of their union. (Hence the name, Musky Joe's Twin Pines :)).

The two of them, with help from their sons and granddaughters, created a legacy here on the Famous Chippewa Flowage. Unfortunately, Grandpa passed away on Thanksgiving of 2017 (we all miss him ever so much) leaving Grandma wondering what to do with the resort. The thought of selling what she and Grandpa put their entire lives into was just too heartbreaking. The boys, although they love the resort, weren't keen on the management side of running things. (It takes a LOT of work, time, and customer service skills to keep a small resort competing with the big names.) As I have extensive business management, marketing, and customer service skills, I offered to try my hand at running things last summer. It was a smashing success!!! (Thank you to all that stayed with us this past summer, each and everyone of you are greatly appreciated!)

Heading into Season 2019, we are working on upgrading the interiors of the cabins (nothing major, I really LOVE the theme Grandma and Grandpa created) new b

Why they chose this property

Each one of our cottages is the product of my Grandparents' love and hardwork. I, myself, grew up helping clean the cottages, "tend" bar, keeping the grounds clean, etc. I couldn't imagine a "job" more rewarding than continuing the legacy.

What makes this property unique

Each cottage is set up with the comforts of home, without all the distraction. Views of the famous Chippewa Flowage can be seen from each living room window. Screened in porches to have a drink while watching the sun set (or rise.) Top Notch fishing right from the docks! Each cottage comes with a boat (motor at an extra charge), dock space, and a place to launch your boat right on site. Oh, and we LOVE dogs ;)!
