Wonderful Week Despite Bumpy Start

This property was as it appears in the pictures. Plenty of space for two families of 4, each with young kids. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and well-maintained. Hacienda Pinilla is a beautiful neighborhood with great amenities. We enjoyed the mountain biking, massages at the beach club, local beach access, and relative proximity to Tamarindo. Not to mention the monkeys who cruised through the backyard each afternoon and the well-maintained private pool. All excellent! Our only complaint was that the house had not been cleaned when we arrived after our long travel days. When we contacted the property manager about the lack of cleaning, she came over immediately during the dinner hour on a Monday with two cleaners to fix things up for our first night. The crew then came back the next day and cleaned everything thoroughly. The owner also comped us the night's stay, which we felt great about. The property manager then left us a nice bottle of wine later in the trip. It seemed like this was very much an anomaly for this house, as evidenced by the prompt and professional response and reactions of both the property manager and the owners. We would have reviewed this property with all five stars but for the initial hiccups.

Good house, loved the pool, backyard & beaches

I would give this a 5 star rating for the house and property if we didn't have so much trouble with the concierge team and there was a broken shower head mount. The house, layout, outdoor living, backyard, pool and landscaping was awesome. It was close to a beach with tide pools and we liked the other beaches in the community. I also appreciated the few beach toys available for guest. Make sure to get a rental car and not a beach cart otherwise you are stuck in the gated community and the only dining option is the beach club which is overpriced and staff was rude. We couldn't drive to Lola's but we ended up parking at beach club and walking on the beach to get there. We had trouble with the concierge team. Everything we booked with that group was not executed to plan and I felt like I had to manage them to get resolution so it would have been easier to book myself (we did for a few things that went great). If you can, check out Native's Way for a sea turtle tour. It's not too far away and you can see baby green sea turtles leave their nest and enter the ocean and momma sea turtles make a nest and lay their eggs. Make sure anything you book outside the concierge that requires transportation is communicated to the concierge or you will have to walk a distance to the gate for pick up.

Casa Campo Tropical Retreat

We had an amazing stay at this property! The house is welcoming and very well stocked, a great home base from which to explore the surrounding area. The backyard balconies and pool area are a private tropical retreat and served as a center point for countless gatherings and relaxation. A short stroll to the beach provides amazing walks, tidal pool exploration and beautiful sunsets. The property owner and manager were very responsive and provided a great resource for planning outings and dining options. But perhaps the best part of the stay was the troop of Howler Monkeys that frequent the property and provided daily entertainment. Overall fantastic experience. Thanks to David, Natalia, Jaime, and Fabian.

Prime Location, Numerous Amenities, Slightly Dated Property

The location of the home is excellent. The subdivision is large and secure with multiple layers of staffed gates. We felt extremely comfortable and safe walking around the community. The onsite pool is private and the only noise we heard was wildlife (birds, monkeys and iguanas!) The private beach club and two private beaches were an excellent benefit. Concierge services were excellent and included within the cost. We used the service for advance food shopping, massages and fishing charters. All minor issues promptly handled. There are a few items that should be noted. The property is a little dated. The appliances in the kitchen function but are not new. The kitchen supplies are adequate but well used. Bathrooms show their age and lack some of the features newer properties have in CR (no outdoor shower or modern fixtures). There was nothing that was objectionable however. Even with the few drawbacks, we felt the price for the home was fair and would possibly consider the property again.

Lovely, Comfortable, Serene

Casa de Campo, as the house is called, is a gem. You enter into a single, large room with a kitchen and a big dining table and a sectional sofa facing a big-screen tv. There are French doors off that room and off the two large bedrooms, each with king-sized beds. I was so happy when I first entered and saw it was as advertised. And that was further bolstered when I saw the back porch, with a lovely in-ground pool. Most mornings, we were awakened by howler monkeys. This house is in a gated community, making it feel very safe and isa very short walk to a small beach that has lots of lava rock. You could walk for miles on that beach at low tide to adjacent, wider, & sandier beaches, or drive to the development's beach club where there's a wide open beach, pool, spa, gym, and food. We were two couples, but we could have had more people in the house comfortably, as the 3rd bedroom had two beds and its own bath. You can rent a golf cart which might be fun, but I'd recommend a car rental for more travel flexibility. Great stay! Thanks!

Moon family home

House is beautiful & comfortable. The massive reserve surrounding development is gorgeous. We loved watching the monkey’s in the back yard. Kitchen well stocked w/ cooking supplies, helpful as restaurants (not inch J W Marriot are not very close. The development’s beach club (approx 2 mikes from hm) super fun. Get there early to claim chair. On last day we discovered a local beach w/ great casual restaurant called something like Avenilla that we were sad to discover so late. I’d highly recommend David’s home.

Wonderful Villa, loved the location!

CASA DE CAMPO Beautiful. Large open rooms. High ceilings. Large patio with almost seperate sections. Beautifully appointed with nice and comfortable furnishings. Lovely landscaping and pool Extremely quiet - when inside could not hear anything outside There were only 4 of us but could fit more and still feel you had private space. AC was welcome at night but we didn't use it during the day as the house maintained a comfortable temperature and we were sensitive to using electricity. Very clean BBQ spotless. Great towels, very comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen Good internet Good selection of streaming services on TV GREAT LOCATION close to horse back riding, golf, amazing beaches. Playa Longosta is a short drive away and is flat with beautiful sand - great for running, walking, body surfing, Boogie boarding and surfing Beach club great if you don't want to cook. We got in last minute without a reservation, live entertainment violinist. An oasis. Great place to hang out and Boogie board on Playa Avellana. Rental car warning - check the flat tire policy! Easy to get one on these roads. Recommend very slow driving at times. Unmarked speed bumps also Luca Surf instructor highly recommend

Perfect paradise

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in paradise! The home was perfectly appointed with the most well-stocked kitchen of any we house we have ever rented - a chef's dream! The furnishings and outside spaces were gorgeous and so inviting. We loved everything about the house and Hacienda Pinilla! We had howler monkeys, variegated squirrels, iguanas, a myriad of beautiful birds and more in the backyard - but yet we felt safe the entire time. We loved the immediate access to the Bonita Beach behind the house and walked to Langosta Beach to the north (and visited via car - our favorite!!) and also walked along the beach numerous times to the JW Marriott and the Beach Club and even to Lola's! Everything you could want was within direct reach and the Pinilla Market onsite was stocked with everything from eggs to fresh homemade breads to wine and liquor. Jaime and Natalia were so helpful with restaurant recommendations and other hints and tips to make our stay enjoyable. We LOVED Tamadindo too!! So much fun, relaxed vibe, awesome food, nicest people and adorable shops! We cannot recommend the house and area more!! Thank you David for an incredible trip! We can't wait to come back to Costa Rica!

Beautiful home in best Pinilla development!

This is a beautiful home: well kept, clean and comfortable. We have stayed in Hacienda Pinilla many times and this house can't be beaten. We saw monkeys in the front yard, sleeping birds in the trees at night, and even witnessed a sea turtle lay and bury her eggs at the beach access point from this development. What an amazing sight we will never forget! The house has everything you need and the kitchen is well-stocked with utensils, etc. It would be nice to have some basics like salt/pepper, but perhaps that's a covid restriction. The backyard & pool area are exquisite, with plenty of lounge chairs, couches, hammocks, towels, etc. The property manager, Natalia, was very helpful and responsive to whatever we needed or could wish for. She sent tons of suggestions for dining and recreation in the area. The owner was very quick to respond to our requests and sensitive and accommodating to our needs as well. We arrived at an unlucky time when some construction was happening nearby, but this is certainly temporary. We highly recommend staying in this lovely home. Pura Vida!

We had such a great time at Casa de Campo and the Tamarindo area. The house was stunning, clean, and the grounds/pool was gorgeous. The location was close to the private beach (great for sunset walks) and the neighborhood has so much beautiful nature and wildlife! Felt very secure and safe and the property management and maintenance team were so helpful, accommodating, and extremely friendly! The home was the perfect place to end our Costa Rica trip!

family vacation

House was in a well guarded community. Simply lovely in all its comfort, decorations, clean and so spacious. Plenty of towels and well stocked kitchen with utensils, pots & pans (no condiments at all, we left salt & pepper mills and sugar packs behind fir others to use) It’s very near the JWMarriott which is really the closest place to eat. House has loads of room for all and the terraces are great for afternoon naps. Would’ve loved to have some pool or beach accessories like floaters, surf buggy boards or umbrellas but we bought 3 large ones and left behind hopefully for other guests to enjoy. Only thing to mention is that because the beach is rocky and we had no chairs it was not very inviting to sun bathe, maybe surf or snorkeling but we had no way of doing so, sadly there were loads of bugs when we went (possibly due to rain) so never went back. Good and rapid communication from Mr Moon, Natalia was the in country house manager, never saw her as I guess we arrived very late nt on checkin day. House was left open for us and we used the lock box when we left. Only unfortunate thing- as I was texting with Natalia I let her know that nobody ever came to do the housekeeping as it was included, all I received was a thanks for being such good house guests?? Thanks Mr Moon for a lovely home.

Great Place to Stay

Great house! Had everything we needed. Close enough for a short drive to town. Felt very safe and secure going through 2 security gates to get to the property. Only complaint is the hot water in the double bed bedroom was hit or miss if you got hot water for the shower that day. We saw monkeys in the backyard every day which was so fun to watch.

We enjoyed our stay. We had 3 couples and Dani met us our first day and with the help of Natalia our property manager we wanted for nothing. It was quiet and secluded with our private pool. Natalia hooked us up with Henry our private driver who we would recommend. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of pots and pans and a ton of dishes. We had an amazing time.

Lovely stay

David's house easily accommodated our group of 7. There was lots of space and the kids really enjoyed all the toys and books. The pool was lovely and large. We enjoyed staying in the Hacienda Pinilla area as we went to the beach club (another pool, beach and playground) and went horseback riding. The only issue we had with the house was the bathrooms, they smelled so bad, but I assume it has to do with the water/plumbing issue. We didn't spend much time inside so it was ok, but every time you came in from outside the smell was horrible. I spoke to the property manager about it and they had someone come look at it right away which was awesome but it didn't take the smell away. There are definitely newer houses in the same area but we liked the look of this old "hacienda" property and in the end, we really enjoyed our stay.

Villa in paradise

I had an amazing time at this beautiful villa. The property was secluded and my friends and I had privacy to lounge in the pool or hang out in the yard. The space was equipped with all amenities. Air conditioning and the beds were very comfortable! We visited the Marriott which is part of the gated community where the villa was. The Marriott was also a beautiful resort with a nice beach. Elsa and Natalie were very helpful in helping to coordinate excursions or any of my needs. And replied instantly! The location was a little further from town than anticipated. It is a 25 minute car ride to tamarindo and the roads are very bumpy. If renting a car get a wrangler or an suv for the roads. My only regret was not staying longer. Highly recommend this villa for a perfect family getaway !

The property is very nice and located in a gated community. The house sleeps 6 comfortably. The outdoor living space is excellent with lots of sitting or lounging areas to read a book or just chill. If you're looking for a quiet place, this is it. It's a 25-30 minute drive into Tamarindo but the neighborhood Clubhouse and Pool is a MUST DO. There is lots of valuable information provided in their welcome packet. Make sure to look it over. I also recommend eating at Il Rustico. It's only a 10-minute drive from the house,

As advertised! GREAT for kids

We picked this place because we have a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old and we wanted something great for them and easy for us and David's place really delivered. There are no stairs indoors at all really so our little walker was pretty safe to wander a bit with us around and we could keep exterior doors closed and locked to keep him contained. The house has pack 'n play and high chair and a tub of toys on the porch. Also the pool is walkable end to end so you can easily stay close to your little puddle-jumper swimmers wherever they go. The private beach is really really close but it's not easy to get in the water with the volcanic rocks so we opted for Playa Langosta or Playa Avenillas on beach days. Most days we just went to the Beach Club (5 minute drive) because there's a 2-ft deep contained wading area that's awesome for little swimmers and then we could take turns going up to the gym for workouts while the other parent minded the little ones. Natalie (host) lives just around the corner and REALLY helped us the first day by getting groceries ahead of time for us and then when I forgot to put milk on the list she graciously brought us some of her own from home on a moment's notice so our little guy wouldn't have to go without (now that's above and beyond!) We did find a dead scorpion in the house one day (it is Costa Rica after all) just make sure you shake out clothes and shoes before putting them on. One other note is I did try to rent a bike from the Mariott one day to try out the trails but was turned away by the staff because I was not a guest at the hotel (they only rent to guests). That might have been because it's busy season, maybe if you're coming off-season they open up rentals to everyone, but I'm not sure. But it was a shame because the trails were really good in Hacienda Pinilla (I ran lots of them). With a bike I would've probably spent 10 hours on the bike while we were there. Lastly, the kitchen was really well equipped. We ate at home most evenings (just easier with the little ones) so we cooked a lot. We did not have to buy anything at all, the kitchen had everything. Thanks Natalie and David, we had an awesome time!

Amazing home and location!

This home was all that we hoped it would be. It is in a gated community -- you have to go through two gates! We felt very safe. The home is beautiful and well-equipped. The property manager was onsite for us when we arrived and walked us through the home and gave us local tips. The dryer quit working while we were there, and within two hours of reporting it, there was a workman there repairing it. The location is close enough to Tamarindo that if you need to run to the store it's not a big deal. We would go back to this home for sure!

We value our family time together and would like to share with you our home away from home. We enjoy swimming, surfing, beach days, cooking and picnics.

We discovered CR a few years back and decided that Tamarindo was our favourite location. Safe beaches, mellow surfing, central location, proximity to airport and amenities made it an easy decision.
