Excellent Retreat

We spent a long weekend in the fall at this house. The accommodations are rustic, comfortable, and interesting. We ate what we caught and found every needed implement in easy reach. Evening and morning on the porch is a rare indulgence in peace and tranquillity. JT was responsive and accommodating. I’m hopeful to return again to Sapelo.

We needed a place to stay for a family reunion on Sapelo.

The house was well located in the Hog Hammock community and this made access to locations and food caterer easy. It was large enough for us to handle overflow from our family reunion in comfort. Jonathan is very responsive to questions and provided links to locals persons who provided us with transportation options ( we chose a golf cart versus a car) and catering when when chose not to deal with cooking. The house is built to look rustic but provides comfort and quiet. Could not have asked for more in terms of location and support. Would highly recommend this property. McK

Exactly as described & very comfortable

This unique cabin has been thoughtfully built and appointed so that it was comfortable and fun for my children and my parents. My husband and I would have made the trip for the record collection alone. The host was very helpful in connecting us with local guides, meals, transportation, and the best places for my family to explore.

Absolutely Amazing Experience

A slice of heaven on Sapelo Island with the most amenities! This rare gem has WiFi and a landline which was great for checking in but this island home is so amazing I suggest putting your phone away and enjoying the pristine beaches and riding the trails. This beautiful Sapelo home is filled with family history and Sapelo history. JT knows the island well and was great at sharing his knowledge and making our trip an ease. I can’t wait to go back! Love love love!!

Couldn't love it more

This is our second year at JT'S property on Sapelo. I cannot recommend it enough. Comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, large back porch with a picnic table for games and meals. JT is the best. Very easy communication. If you're thinking of booking, do it. You won't regret it.

Nice visit

We had fun at the Jonathan Tennant house on Sapelo Island. It was comfortable with lots of interesting books. We especially enjoyed the history books of the area. We saw painted buntings and other birds around the property. Bring a little birdseed for the feeders. There are a lot of birds on Sapelo, the beach is excellent and the people are friendly. The meals prepared by Barbara Bailey and delivered to the house were a real treat.

Retreat to Sapelo

This was our 3rd visit and it never disappoints. Comments from my kids: “Love the vintage fridge” ‘ “I just want to go again to read the books”, “Can we come back during hunting season”; “Can we just move to Sapelo?” Highly recommended if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay on Sapelo that has great rustic character.

Another great stay.

We had another incredible stay at JT’s place on Sapelo. The memories of quality time with no phones or screens will endure. The owner was communicative and very accommodating as our trip was delayed because of a storm in our hometown. We’re already planning our return.

Amazing.

Sapelo is a truly special place on earth, and this cabin does the experience full justice. To be sure, it is a masculine, hunting cabin turned vacation rental, but that is part of the charm. Because very few people access Sapelo outside of those who live there, those who work there, and those who hunt there. So the hunting emphasis is true to the few uses of the island. The rustic decor is thoughtful, tasteful, charming, and relevant the its environment tucked into the pine trees and saw palmettos that abound on the relatively-untouched island. Yes, there were a few dead roaches—so those squeamish about bugs ought to venture elsewhere—but the cabin was marvelously constructed, well cared for, spotless, comfortable, and blissfully air conditioned. It is kid friendly to some degree—probably not great for 18 months—2 1/2 year olds—but we went with our 4 year old and 6 month old and it was perfection. Furthermore, the property owner, JT, was so dang nice, he routinely checked in on us and helped us find whatever we needed. He put us in touch with Maurice for renting a vehicle and with Barbara who prepared and delivered dinners to us each night. The only thing that we needed while on the island that we couldn't get a hold of was a working pen LOL. Bring your own pens.

Amazing

This is our 2nd time and won’t be our last. I felt actual ache in my heart the whole day before we left. This is cheesy but when I’m there I’m in full contact with the realization that life on earth is an unfathomable miracle. Jonathan and his family are so generous and cool. They treat us like family and I wish we were. This place is a real home, not an investment property. If you want to stop caring whether your cellphone is charged or even where it is—if you want to step away from hyper-novelty and nonsense for a bit and go deep, you couldn’t find a better spot than this.

An amazing island experience!

We were able to get away and unplug! The only noise was from the birds and the ocean. The house was very comfortable and full of books and artifacts. It was a great place to escape the world.

Sapelo- Best of Coastal Georgia

Perfect place to vacation at the beach. It’s only a 30 minute ferry ride, but Sapelo feels like a world away. Empty, beautiful beaches and safari rides to see deer, alligators, wild cows, bald eagles, roseate spoonbills and numerous other birds were the highlights. This was our second trip to Jonathan’s cabin, and he makes everything easy. The cabin is a great retreat with plenty of books for the adults and books/games for the kids. Highly recommended!

A Honeymoon to Remember

My wife and I traveled to Sapelo for our honeymoon. JT's place was wonderful. A little off the beaten path and secluded (tricky to find, but once you find it, easy to get back to), the cabin itself had so much warmth and character. There were dozens of books to read through (especially on the history of Sapelo and the Gullah people), some well-chosen vinyl records to listen to, and a pleasant porch to relax on. We spent a lot of our time just rocking in the rocking chairs and talking over wine. JT connected us with several folks on the island too. We were able to take advantage of a local chef who made some tasty fried chicken and fish. We drove golf carts around to see the various sights in Hog Hammock and near the beach. The cabin itself was very tidy and had a lot of the basics; tons of towels, olive oil/salt/pepper/coffee, an ice machine that came in handy for bringing a cooler to the beach. Overall, we will be back. Thanks for everything!

Best vacation I can remember

We could not have lucked on a more perfect place to spend our vacation. This really feels like HOME. I wish it was my home! Going to Sapelo Island is like time traveling in so many wonderful ways, and being in this amazing house really seals the deal on that. You can feel—and it’s the actual truth—that everything in this house has personal value to the family that owns it. No pretension at all. We had everything we needed and wanted, and way more. Jonathan is the most hospitable person—I felt like I was staying at a friend’s awesome home while they were away. He gave us so many tips to help us have the fun we wanted, he put us in touch with all the resources we needed, he shared his equipment with us, he was always available to help whenever we had a question, and he is so so kind. We will absolutely be back as long as Jonathan is sharing this slice of heaven.

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." - John Muir

This was the third summer that we have had the pleasure of staying at this cabin on Sapelo. The cabin is amazing. It is charming and has a rustic vibe but with all the convenience and comfort that one could ask for. It provides a wonderful base camp for adventures in the majestic wilderness that is Sapelo Island. The owners are very responsive to questions about the property and the pride that they take in their island retreat is apparent. While this is not your typical beach vacation, the opportunity to get away and experience the beauty of nature is one that our family looks forward to year after year.

Beautiful Sapelo Retreat

One of the most unique properties we’ve ever been too on Sapelo. Very comfortable, and the owners were very helpful with putting us in touch with a vehicle and meals, should you need one. This house has so much character, you can tell the amount of work they have put into it. We’ll definitely be back.
