50th Anniversary Celebration with our son and daughter's families
The Whitewater Lake lake house was very accommodating for our family of 6 adults and 5 children. The house was spacious, beds were comfortable, nice showers and tub, plenty of bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, many books and some games for children, large washer and dryer, wonderful Chef's kitchen, and great view of Whitewater Lake.
However, there were a number of discrepancies with the printed information provided to us, regarding both in/out of house items.
1. Although information explaining how to use the TV remotes throughout the house was listed in the Home Guest Manual, 4 bedroom TV's, plus the bunk room, were not hooked up to cable. We were certainly not there to watch TV. However, it was frustrating to search for a TV a few of the children could watch during their daily hour of quiet time, while the other children were napping.
2. The same manual invited guests to enjoy the kayak and
paddleboat on the property. The paddleboat was to have been tied up to the pier. When we emailed the host about the paddle for the kayak, we were told for insurance purposes, the kayak was not available for our use. Paddleboat was also turned upside down away from the water, near the kayak.
3. We would have used the rake, which was to have been on the lower level deck, to clear away weeds/leaves near the swimming area beach the children were using, but there was no rake.
4. We did use the outdoor grill the first night we were there. A $50 fine would be charged if the grill was not cleaned by the time we departed. Our grill at home is much cleaner than the one we used at the lake house. Deck furniture should also be replaced, due to weather stress.
5. Our greatest concern, however, involved the Security System. The contract we signed with the owners/host stated: "The security system will be disarmed before your arrival and reactivated upon your departure."
However, when scrolling the channels with the living room remote, we saw our family being recorded on the TV. When I contacted the host about this illegal invasion of our privacy, she responded in writing stating: "The alarm is disarmed before our departure. The cameras remain on to protect the home and to settle any disputes should "their" be any damage to the home." This is in total violation of the contract we signed with the host/owners. We were not aware we were going to be videotaped. We want other potential renters to be aware of this, if they are considering renting this property.
