Cozy cabin by the lake

We booked the cabin for a white Christmas. Margaret gave great directions to their cozy cabin. We felt great tucked away on the Cimarron trail. The hot water was instant and the heater kept us all comfortable by the frozen lake. A tip would be, bring plenty of fire wood.

Pretty Good

I liked the property, the home was great and had plenty of beds and bathrooms. I didn't trust the dishes, they are all washed by previous tenants and some were dirty. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and would love to come back one day.

Nice place conveniently located

The cabin is in a nice quiet place not too terribly far from Eagle Nest or Angel Fire. The cabin is rustic and cozy. We had plenty of space for all the family and everything we needed for our getaway. We spent the majority of our time in Cimarron Canyon and ate in Angel Fire so it was located almost perfectly. We will certainly stay again if it is available on our next outing

Great Cabin

The cabin is located in a great spot and most things were exactly as listed online. The 2 exceptions were 1) the cabin is not located as close to the lake as what appears in the online pictures and 2) the price listed was not very accurate. Due to taxes and fees it was about a 25% higher rate than the per night listing.

A weekend out after being separated from family for over a year due to the Pandemic.

Upon the arrival, check in process was quick & simple. You could tell it hadn't been rented in awhile since it had a strong musky smell. We open the doors & windows to air out the rooms. We moved in selected the rooms. A few concerns, especially when ou have children under the age of 7, was upstairs. the openness of railing. There wasn't a safety guard/rail so we had to really watch them when they were up stairs or when sleeping. The other part which I text the own about was the Butane Grill was filty, it look as if it hadn't been clean in years. We were planning on grilling that first evening and it was very unuseable. I didn't want to spent the rest of the evening cleaning it up and then have a very late supper for the kids. We ended up cooking them on the stove. A recommendation, it would be nice to have the cleaning lady come the morning of the guest arrivial, so it has a scent of being clean & not so musky. Other then that it was a nice getaway for my family. We look forward to more adventures using the VRBO app. Thank You,

Pro/Con

Well lets start with the good stuff. The cabin was adequate in size. Fire place was great, heat worked well, water pressure was great. There was plenty of blankets and pillows. Nice touch having the games and DVD's available. They left adequate fire wood as well as a fire starter for our first fire. There was shampoo, soap and conditioner samples available if we had needed them. Ok now the bad, the cabin had clearly not been deep cleaned in some time. There were cobwebs in the windows, and when I got an extra blanket down I was completely disgusted that 15-20 dead flies fell out of the blanket. (no joke) There were several flies upstairs I guess the cabin had not been aired out for some time, I am not sure since the weather was chilly. Generally as a rule I clean the kitchen and bathroom as we are leaving but there were not any cleaning supplies available. The view from the front porch is AWFUL it is basically a junky, cars broken down, just trashy looking lot. The view from the side living room window is not bad you can see the lake past the other cabins. we have stayed at several VRBO/other properties that we aren’t allowed to list think bed and breakfast and this by far is the worst cabin as far as cleanliness goes. That being said maybe this is not a tourist area and they are not used to higher expectations???? Red River is a cool little town and we will come back to the area however we will not be staying at this cabin. The price we paid was a premium so I expect cleanliness and was disappointed.

Great log cabin with easy access

The property is located walking distance from Eagle Nest Lake state park. The late and setting are gorgeous with a nice walking trail for morning runs or a walk with the dog. The cabin has three comfortable bedrooms, a nice wood burning stove, and propane gas appliances. Definitely enough space for meal prep, which is a huge plus for us. The cabin is also conveniently located between Red River, Angel Fire, and Taos ski areas (about 30 minutes, roughly, to Red River and Taos, and only 10 to Angel Fire). The one cautionary item is the property's neighborhood. This rental is maintained without junk in or around the property. However, the same cannot be said about some of the neighbors; a lot of run down trailer-like homes, some don't even appear to be habitable. Additionally, while a walk to the state park is truly just down the street (maybe 1/4 mile), beware as there are multiple loose, and sometimes mean, dogs along the way.

This cozy cabin was built in 1985 by our dear friend Mo Finley. My family and I have enjoyed the Eagle Nest area for over 30 years. I'm a retired school teacher and live full time in Lindsay, Oklahoma.

Why they chose this property

Our family fell in love with this area because of all the outdoor endeavors. The cabin is centrally located to enjoy some of the most beautiful hikes, great skiing, fishing, and we even have cliff dwellings. Which are located at the Bandelier National Monument. Only a day's drive!

What makes this property unique

I spent a year at the cabin teaching kindergarten at the Eagle Nest public school. One of my most fond memories is looking out the kitchen window and seeing Wheeler Peak. The views here are spectacular! Please come and enjoy our home. We wish to share this adventure with you and your family.
