About this property

Gracious Mid-Century Modern--Right on Cazenovia Lake, with Expansive Grounds

Looking for tranquility, privacy, and gorgeous lake views? For a place where time slows down and families and friends can reconnect? The Lake House awaits.

Originally built in 1940 by a Syracuse industrialist as a family summer camp, The Lake House remains in the family and has been loved by four generations. The house is set on expansive grounds with huge shade trees, a private dock, two tired deck, an outside fire pit, outdoor eating areas, and plenty of room to spread out.

The Lake House offers a gracious, relaxed layout for both quiet escape and lively connection--- perfectly sited for sweeping views of the lake or surrounding meadows. Considered very modern when it was built in 1940, the house has been largely preserved in its original form.  Most of the cabinetry, countertops, and fixtures in the kitchen and baths date from the ‘40s. In practical terms this means that you will not find the granite counter tops, large bathrooms, and fancy detailing you might expect in a house of this size and location if it were built today. What you will find is a gem of the period, a comfortable, well-equipped house with great living spaces that encourage families to linger, talk, slow down and enjoy one another’s company. What it lacks in modern extras, it makes up for in retro charm and period detailing, such as the original wide-plank wood flooring, brick fire places, and original draperies in some rooms.

The kitchen has everything you need for preparing meals, large or small, and the dining room and several outdoor tables have hosted countless animated family dinners over the years. The dining table seats ten, and there is plenty of tableware and serving dishes to accommodate large groups. The dining area is open to the spacious living room, creating the perfect space for casual meals and gatherings. An extra table and set of chairs are located in the one of two front foyer closets. Both areas overlook the lake, with floor to ceiling windows in the living room perfectly framing the view. A large whitewashed fireplace warms the space on cool evenings.

The Lake House has five bedrooms and three baths in the following configuration:

Main Floor:
The main bedroom offers a queen bed and a fireplace. In the same wing, the guest room has two twin beds and lake views. These two bedrooms share a bathroom with a good-sized bathtub and shower. Both rooms feature the original built-in drawers and bedside tables.

Also on the ground floor, the back bedroom has a queen sized bed. This bedroom is smaller than the others but boasts a newly redone, private bath with tub/shower. Guest's enjoy a view of the lawn, towering trees, and adjoining garden.

Upstairs:
“Nan’s Room” has a king sized bed (can be separated into two twins) and the original built in desk, drawers, and bookshelves.
The “Boys’ Room” features a bunk bed (full on the bottom, twin above) as well as a twin bed. These two rooms share a bathroom with tub/shower. Please note: to access Nan’s Room or the bathroom, you must go through the “Boys' Room.” Thus, these rooms, especially the “Boys’,” are best suited for kids or families rather than couples who require full privacy.

As of 2018, the house was equipped with new mattresses in most rooms. Linens and towels are regularly replaced.

If you are looking for a house that offers privacy, a large yard and grounds, a great dock for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing--- and the feeling of being away from it all within a few miles of downtown Cazenovia—look no further.  Our family and our guests love the property because of its timelessness. The tranquil environment encourages visitors to slow down and enjoy being together.
Welcome to The Lake House!

Grounds

The grounds are very large and totally unfenced.
The dock and lake are accessed via a stone and wood staircase. There is a canoe, two kayaks, two paddle boards and a paddleboat for guest use. We also supply many life jackets, children's water shoes (essential for all) and yard games.

There are no stairs leading into the house, but the main floor does have a couple of steps between the entrance/bedrooms and living room/kitchen. There are two working indoor fireplaces (in the living room and the master bedroom).

There is one covered parking space (carport, not garage).

There is a charcoal grill for guests to use.

Discounts may be available for extended (multi-week) stays. Please let us know what you're interested in.

Great 4 day getaway!

Group of 9, ranging in age from 13 to 71, had a great winter break between Christmas and New Years. Beautiful location, lovely town, and a well-appointed house. Owner was gracious, friendly, informative and made arrival and departure easy. Local restaurants were exceptional, outdoor Art Park was a big hit, and we were within a half hour of Greek Peak (too warm this week), Turning Stone Casino, and a very exciting Syracuse basketball game! Would love to return in summer months to enjoy the lake.

Perfect for an extended family gathering

We had a fabulous stay at this special place. Members of our extended family range in age from 7 to 93 and everyone was comfortable. The location is gorgeous and house very stylish in both a modern and old-style way. Fully supplied with dishes, cookware, etc. that we needed. We will definitely be back--hopefully in the summertime when we can enjoy the waterfront. Thank you!

Beautiful Lake House

We loved staying in this warm and welcoming family retreat! So many extras including a bottle of wine, coffee, two frigs and and a well stocked kitchen. The lake views are gorgeous and a lot of privacy. All the personal touches (including lots of toys/activities for little ones) show how well loved this place is. Communication with Claire was easy and seamless and we look forward to returning!!

Beautiful Location

Great property, ample space and very peaceful. The view of the lake is incredible from the main area of the house as well as most bedrooms. The house has just about everything you need especially in the kitchen. The bedrooms are broken up into areas making it easy for families to get their privacy when needed. While we were unable to take the canoe, paddle boat, kayaks or paddle boards out on the lake, we were very successful fishing off the dock. Great food, hiking and activities are nearby.

The most amazing time!

We had the best time at this property! The house is beautiful with great windows and the perfect amount of space for 10 adults. For a holiday weekend, we were surprised at how quiet the lake was. The house was stocked with water shoes, water toys, yard games, etc. My communication with the rental manager was friendly and timely. Couldn't think of a thing to complain about!

Absolutely incredible!

What a wonderful three days! The house and grounds are amazing. The adults loved the quiet seclusion and the kids loved fishing and swimming off the dock. Canoeing and kayaking to WBYC was a fun bonus. Originally we planned on this as "overflow" accommodations for our children and grandchildren that we didn't have room for at the family house, but it became an even better center of activity for a long weekend that we all enjoyed. Thank you Claire for making everyone feel at home!

Lovely house and property for our family group. Plenty of space to spread out but still cozy. Very peaceful and private setting while still being just a short drive to town and services. Communication with Claire was superb! We look forward to staying again!

Perfect for Family Gathering

We had 4 generations on our stay at the lake house, and it was loved by one and all! The views of the lake from the spacious living areas, the outdoor seating on the patio, and the two levels of decks for relaxing by the lake provide many options to gather together or enjoy quiet moments. The house is charmingly decorated and very well equipped. Appliances are up to date and in good working order. The two refrigerators are a big help for large groups! Claire, the manager, was very responsive and kind; she made sure that we were happy.

Priceless

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with our family and a small vow renewal with friends. The grounds were beautiful for the renewal and our pictures. The home has everything you could ever need! The grandchildren experienced many firsts, with the kayaks, canoe and paddleboat. We caught large bass right off the dock every day! The home offers beautiful views of the lake with the windows and the design makes it very warm, inviting and comfortable. Claire, the manager, was available at all times for any questions . You will only need to bring food and clothing when you rent and make memories that will last a life time at this unique property .

Our fishing trip

We take our grandchildren every year on a fishing trip for their birthday. My brother comes with his boat to go fishing and it was also his birthday too. This house was great. It was very well stocked. It was very clean. Claire was very responsive. The dock was great for our boats. The only reason I gave it a four star at the end instead of five, what is the two bathrooms downstairs have toilets that are extremely low. Modern high-rise toilets would be very helpful in those bathrooms and they don’t cost a lot. Otherwise we love the house and we would come back.

Amazing house & location

We had a group of friends stay for a reunion weekend and could not have asked for a better space! The home is large, the dock looks over the lake, and we had an awesome time hanging outside and celebrating. We definitely plan on renting again! Amazing!

Wow- what an incredible home and experience! The house was perfect for our group. The kitchen and home are very well stocked with anything you would need. There were lots of fun things for everyone to do- kayak, paddle board and games. The setting on Cazenovia lake is spectacular- the view can’t be beat! Our friends who were not familiar with a Cazenovia loved the town and surrounding area, too.

We're a group of siblings/cousins/nieces and nephews who've grown up loving the Lake House, where we gather each year to celebrate milestones and the constance of a special, joyful place to be together: swimming, fishing, sailing, hanging out, catching up, eating entirely too much sweet corn. A few of us have gotten married at the house, and all of us treasure its quiet, its views, and the profound, spacious peace. We have a hired a manager, Claire, to maintain the property and respond to our guests needs.
