Loved our stay at the Hirschdale Hideaway. We went with our dog and there were plenty of places to explore nearby with him! The owners were very kind and had great communication.
Being located on the Truckee river, in a small community, this is our favorite location in the greater Tahoe area.Racheal & Matt are the ultimate hosts with a wonderful family and neighbors.
Great spot in a quiet location near the river, just east of Truckee. Perfect for the fly fisher. Super clean and comfortable unit. Matt and Rachel are great hosts and respond quickly to any questions. My (all too brief) stay coincided with the first cold snap, and the trees in the canyon were popping with fall color. Looking forward to coming back (and doing a float with Matt)!
Hirschdale is a small neighborhood community with no services. Truckee is only 10 minutes away, you can get anything you need there to bring for your stay. Space is good for 1-2 people. Owners live next door and are friendly but not intrusive. Lots of options for outdoor activities in the area. Easy check in, accurate instructions and good communication. Thanks for hosting me!
Whilst the location was great and the room very clean a better star rating would be 5/10. When I opened the wire screen door it fell off. I contacted owner who was quick to respond, advising she did know about the issue (maybe a good door should be installed correcting an already known issue). No aircon, but there is a fan in the cupboard which helped. On the second morning I was woken by someone in the garage at 4am (attached to the small unit) who kindly left the motor running for a few minutes before leaving - this is the main reason for the low score. I did contact the owner about this, but had no response. Oh well, the bed was comfortable and I used the place to sleep in only, so it did the job. Nice view from the outside space.
Everything was great - it was a very quiet neighborhood on the river,. I think you should say that the next door neighbor is a fishing guide. We would have booked with him had we known. Suggestion - we are over 80 and mildly tech-savvy. It would be helpful if you had written instructions in the house for operation of the TVl - we couldn't use it. Also for the BBQ. Same thing. Laminated instructions would be very helpful.
This place was awesome. Nice and cozy. Has everything you need. its about 15 minutes from Downtown Truckee and about 15 steps to the river. This is my second time at this spot and I’m already looking forward for the next trip up. Owners of the property are extremely kind and helpful. Thanks again, Rachael and Matt.
Great little spot for a couple’s Tahoe/Truckee getaway. Just minutes away from all the recreation in the area. Also very close to the Hirschdale entrance to the Truckee-Pyramid Trail.
Beautiful place to stay! Hosts are wonderful!
Couldn’t ask for a more lovely relaxing time.
My husband had a blast fishing with Matt.
Thanks for everything!
The unit was exactly what I was looking for - has everything needed for short vacation. The owners are next door and very friendly and helpful. Even did fly fishing with Matt (owner) which I did not plan ahead and it was great.
Great location and easy check in. I really loved the location of this property and what a treat to be able to bring my dog. The owners were. Very responsive and easy to get ahold of. It’s a cute unit attached to the garage. This place is great but the floor was very cold and I had to use towels/pillows to block the drafts from the closet and doors. Also the bed was pretty uncomfortable. I had a hard time sleeping. Great shower though and beautiful view!
The unit was perfect for what we needed. It had everything we needed in a small space. Great view of the mountains and the Truckee River. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again in the future. Thank you very much!

The apartment was ideal for our purposes. We spent most of our five days there with family who live in Truckee. Getting in and out was simple, the location was ideal, and the river added beauty. Great!
The home was well decorated and had everything that I needed for my stay. I was able to hike down to the Truckee river caught a bunch of rainbow trout right off the property.
The unit was fine, some nice interior decorations mixed with deferred maintenance issues.
The listing was perfectly clear that it would be important to open the windows at night to let in cool air, given the lack of AC. That would have worked great...if the screen door were functional, which it was not. The door was too broken to use, not only falling off track at the slightest pressure but also leaving a huge gap that let insects fly in (and being so close to the river, this was a major phenomenon!).
Other drawbacks included a lingering scent of old cigarette smoke, a deck surface badly in need of sanding and repair, and other small details like tattered curtains and flapping insulation stripping.
The location was lovely in terms of the river view, mountain air, and frolicking wildlife. However, there is no escaping the fact that you are very much attached to a garage and looking directly at the host's equipment-littered backyard and back deck. We often worried that we were invading the freedom of the host's kids to run and play freely - they were very respectful but we were so obviously in their territory.
One final, small detail/hint: the coffeemaker is a Keurig and only 2 pods were provided, so make SURE you bring pods or your own coffemaker. We brought backup beans but couldn't use them.
Altogether it was a fine stay but felt overpriced.
I booked this house for two nights for a solo fishing getaway, it was absolutely wonderful. The owners/family were awesome, made me feel right at home. The house had everything I needed and being that close to the water was an added bonus. Can’t wait to head back up.
