I would stay here again

The location was pleasant and quiet but also unexpectedly convenient to downtown Richmond. There was ample parking for multiple cars on the property. The owner/manager was friendly and accommodating, especially given that we asked for the room on short notice. We enjoyed our stay.

Great place!

Dave was a great host. Met me at the property to help with truck/boat parking. Parking is a little tight getting though the gate, but if you can back a trailer its no problem. House was clean and cozy. Great place to stay when fishing the James River!

Spectacular

I couldn't have asked for more quiet secluded area with breathtaking views of the city. This place is close to shaco bottom which gives you access to all kinds of shops and restaurants, but it is just off the main road enough to give you full seclusion with the ability to enjoy the city lights from afar. The host was amazing and made sure that all of our needs were handled and then he skedaddled 😊 Will stay again!

Great Location, Listing As Described

McCoul Cottage was an excellent location for our quick weekend. We were attending an event less than a mile away and could ride our bikes to it and not worry about parking. It is accessible to the Virginia Capitol Trail which we very much enjoyed! Great location, great views. Dave is a great host - very friendly and responsive. Everything was as described in the listing and we thank Dave for sharing his home for our getaway.

Wonderful View and Great Location

This location and house worked perfect for my visit to Richmond. The evening view of the city of Richmond is unbelievable!! Great sitting out and eating dinner in the screened in unit off the back of the house. I brought my bikes but the rain kept me from walking and picking up the Cap Trail. Great communications with the owner! Will definitely be coming back and staying here again!!

The McCoul Cottage Stay!

I love staying here for several reasons. It is a perfect location to easily go anywhere in or outside the city limits. Feels like your rural and in the country but the highway is only 5 minutes away. The property is private with a back yard view of RVA ! There is a lovely place to sit out back and watch the sun go down and the stars come out. The rental is simple, practical and efficient. The hosts are great folks and very accommodating. I will be back soon!

clean but not a cottage

Stayed 4 days in Richmond. Chose the "cottage because of price and high ratings. Listing has a pic of the home on hillside overlooking city. Accommodations are actually in the cinderblock walk out, one room with 2 queens. 2 half drapes to separate the beds for "privacy"- looks like at one time it was the garage. We needed a cheap place to sleep so it served our purposes. Host was readily available, just misleading as advetised.

Private cottage hideaway with fenced in yard.

Dave the owner was super. He called us before the trip to explain check-in. Dave left us restaurant suggestions and was really gracious when we needed to check out a little later. The cottage was easy to find. We actually thought we rented the smaller cabin in the photos but was pleasantly surprised to find out the cottage was attached to the main house. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. The refrigerator was upgraded from the one shown in the photos. The new one is larger. That was a pleasant surprise. The cottage came stocked with dishes, silverware, towels, garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper, caress bar soap in the shower and hand and dish soap. The bathroom is awesome. It’s new and has multiple lights, a fan and a heater. The toilet flushes using a macerator pump. We brought my service dog and he was very comfortable at the cottage. He was able to enjoy the fenced in yard(sanctuary). We also saw quite a few butterflies! Just be aware of the runoff drain as you enter/exit the property. Overall we enjoyed our stay. It was comforting to us that we could stay in such a private hideaway especially during the current Covid climate. We would highly recommend staying here and will definitely book again in the future.

Great Place?

This was the perfect location. I was there with another angler for a fishing tournament. It was close to takeoff, plenty of parking and super comfortable! Our booking couldn't have been easier, without questions answered quickly. Keeping this info in case we come back! Thanks for the great hospitality!

Fishing trip

Good place to stay. I was here to fish the bass open on the James river. You had to back your boat through the gate to get in but it was no problem I never encountered any traffic on the street and didn’t have a problem backing in by myself. Would recommend for any fishermen.

Exactly as expected and no problems

Great property. I found parking area to be a little soft and slippery at times. I avoided any sloping areas. Rain would have been a concern.

The outlook post

The property was everything as described as Plenty of parking, safe and quiet neighborhood and very close to downtown Richmond. It met all of my needs and more as I was in town for a fishing tournament. Very convenient to gas stations, food, breweries, etc. Would stay again!!

Location, Location, Location

Lovely quiet setting. Just the birds singing in the surrounding trees. Comfortable bed and basic supplies in kitchenette. It only took us about 5 minutes to get to downtown Richmond and very close to Virginia Capital Trail. If you are looking for luxury this probably isn't the place for you. If you just need basic accommodations while you are out enjoying Richmond and surrounding area then this is a great place. Be aware there is no wi-fi.
