A whimsical adventure awaits you at Big Bear's Hobbit House! This historic cabin built in 1928 offers a unique interior with little doors and hidden stairs between rooms, and a secret passage awaits discovery. This home combines the best of vintage Big Bear with modern amenities, showcasing big screen TVs against stained glass windows. A programmable ceiling fan keeps the home cool in the summer, and a traditional cabin kitchen with a claw-foot bathtub in the adjacent bathroom are a beautiful reminder that this home has been hosting guests for almost 100 years.

This cabin is near just about everything. Snow Summit and Bear Mountain Ski Resorts each a quick drive away for wintertime fun, and the lake is a few moments to the north. Enjoy hiking and biking trails and swimming at Meadow Park in the summertime or the shops and restaurants of the village year-round. There are a few eateries a couple blocks north of the home.

Hooray for Hobbit House!

The minute we walked into this Big Bear gem we knew it was going to be a special time. Its a cozy cabin beautifully decorated with everything we needed for a great time. Our boys loved all of the little pathways and random skinny doors. Perfect for hide n seek! We played the piano and enjoyed the hot tub surrounded by pines as the sun was setting. We will be back!

The Money Pit

I paid $2,000 for a week of irritation; window treatments are only stapled to the walls therefore unable to open, old plumbing causes the toilet to spewed water across the bathroom, and a stove that should have been tossed years ago. It would have been easier to cook in the fireplace. The house is so dark that I fell on a unmarked step. The photos are deceptive. This house is in need of major work.

Such a cute house in the photos

We didn’t love anything. Broken oven knob, couldn’t use the oven. No fire starter provided couldn’t enjoy a fire. Hot tub had about a foot of water in it and couldn’t be repaired during our time in the house. The beautiful photos were well staged as the interior is dark and the nice furniture has been removed. Fix the blinds so light comes in and take away the ugly futon that replaced the teal leather sofa seen in the staged photos. Provide some tissues in bathrooms and stop providing cheap paper towels. Very disappointed for what we paid to enjoy a week in the mountains.

funky cute cabin

We loved this cute funky cabin. It has a bunch of really narrow hidden doors. It was a trip! It's a good location close to cool stuff and shopping.

Lovely and fun Cabin!

A cabin full of character, super cosy and practical. It was pretty clean but could do with a more thorough clean in the kitchen.

Cute but not handicap accessible

I don't know if it was a computer glitch or a incorrect ad but I used the filters on the site and put in handicap accessible. This one and a few others showed up. I choose this house because it look really cute (which it is). However, there in not a single space accessible for a disabled person. When I contacted them the next day nothing was offered for a solution, not an offer to move us or refund any money. They said attempt to fix other issues.. We also had a heating issue, the hot tub was not available until the second day, tack board was exposed and my son stepped on it with his sock feet (because you can't wear shoes in the house), and there are 3 tvs but no reception to watch anything unless you want to watch stuff on Netflix, lastly the previous tenants had left trash in the yard and put dishes away dirty. All in all it was a cute place and we made due but it was very difficult to get around with all the steps through the entire home.

Quirky

A cute and interesting old cabin with lots of hidden doors. That was the fun part. Living room has skylights that made the main room in the cabin unbearably hot during daylight hours. Fans did little to nothing to cool it off. Kitchen is very tiny, VERY tiny, that made it rather cumbersome to prepare meals.

Unique Experience!

The house is different and charming; with a unique vibe from most houses. A bit of a labyrinth, you can find many little doors and entrances, that seem frivolous, and that is half the fun!

Safety ..Health Risks at Hobbit House

Upon entering cabin found coffee pot was not cleaned. Cofee grounds inside and thick burned in coffee in pot. I was shocked as thought there were special precautions for covid. Coffee pot cleaning is prep 101 for housekeepers. Of course we had to disinfect surfaces again to be safe. We should b rein uraed for cleaning and for lack of full amenities ie. Only 1 tv working Two tv's were not working. In master suite and living room. TV Worked in another bedroom. No hand sanitizer in home either. We saw this was a Homeaway standard for this time on your website. Numerous safety fall hazards. Broken paver in yard fitted in recessed area near back door was huge tripping risk. The hole should be filled in with concrete. And we did trip.We covered spot to avoid. You also slip upon leaving shower need rubber mat. Also in front bedroom elevated pad for heater is awkward a d close to bed. After banging into it I put a towel down as warning. We are seniors at higher risk for falls and infection from covid. I am a nurse and do home safety evaluations and this home would need correction. We hav stayed in many air bnb and homeaway over the years and haven't seen so many violations in one home. We have never had to complain.Your company should look into this as it is a liability. We spoke with vacasa about concerns and they said they would talk to you to confirm this. We are requesting refund of cleaning deposit and refund for lack of amenities x 3 nites. It is the least you could do.Thank you for your attention. I will call you as well. Ps: your dates are wrong above it was 7/9 to 7/12.

Worth every penny

Took the family out to Big Bear for our fifth year anniversary. Chose this cabin for the historic value. My wife loved it with all the secret doors and hall ways. Would definitely rent this cabin again.

A Perfect Getaway

We used Vacasa to book the Hobbit House in Big Bear for the New Year and it was perfect! We had a lovely retreat in this warm and cosy house. The decor is quirky and we had fun looking around the house when we first arrived. The kitchen was great for preparing meals for our large group and we all enjoyed sitting in the main living area eating, talking and playing games! The beds were comfy and the house was really clean. We all made use of the hot tub which was really hot and relaxing; perfect to unwind after a long day at the slopes. We could easily walk to the shuttle which only took five minutes to get to the slopes which made it a fantastic location. We all enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning :)

Hobbit House

Loved the rustic character of this 90 year old cabin.... It was set back up away from town which was so quiet and serene.... there were hiking trails we could walk to from the cabin and the lake was a short drive away. It was great to be able to come back in the evening and sit out back in the jacuzzi too.
