Perfect family getaway

We had the best week on Mt Kineo! This house is cozy and also big enough for a larger group to stay comfortably. We loved the privacy along with easy access to beaches and boat slips. The wrap around porch is amazing. This is a special place and we hope to be back next year!

Very cute cabin

Awesome experience. The house was nice and good accommodations for 10 adults. The pond unfortunately is not good for swimming or floating but the views are amazing. Mt. Kineo was amazing!

Kineo

My family and I stayed at the Kineo house for 5 nights. We had a great time, golfing, hiking, swimming, boating, and fishing. We had 4 adults and 5 kids (age 4-7) and there was plenty of room from everyone. The location was relaxing and the neighbors were friendly. The golf course was in great shape. We can't wait to get back there in the future.

Beautiful and spacious cabin within walking distance to Pebble Beach

This is a lovely cabin which is well-appointed with everything that we needed. The cleanliness of the cabin upon arrival was disappointing. We communicated with the owner who was very responsive. Overall, we had a wonderful week, spending much-needed quality time with family! We hope to come back next year.

Beautiful home and great location with lots to do!

Family of 6 plus two dogs enjoyed our stay at Libby’s place! House is well stocked with the basics (soap, shampoo, trash bags, coffee) and kitchen is well equipped. Great outdoor space with decks and fire pit. We enjoyed golf, hiking and boating during our weeklong visit.

Great platform for family fun

We had a terrific time at Rockwood. The setting is spectacular, of course. There is a giant, wonderful lake to explore by boat and there is a "mountain" to hike. There is a sweet 9-hole golf course to enjoy. There are a couple of wonderful pebble beaches that offer great views and swimming. The house itself is very nice: expansive, clean, well-stocked, comfortable. In short, this place has everything that my family (two parent, three adult children, one significant other) needed to find that sweet Maine relaxation. Thanks Libby!

Nice place to be for a week

This is a very nice house...roomy and well laid out. The kitchen is especially nice. The house has lots of good stuff in it -- linens, towels, toys, games, spices, staples, books and the like -- but the real star of the show is the lake and Mt. Kineo. It was an absolute pleasure to be somewhere where doing nothing is totally satisfying. We brought our own paddleboards, so that was fun. Add hiking and swimming and strolling and golfing without ever touching a car and you begin to understand what it is to relax. Thanks Libby!

Kineo

This was a truly unique experience. It does require some work and planning getting set up and breaking down (worth the effort). Once there, it’s a perfect setting to bring family together. Lots of adventures on the island and constant beautiful views of Kineo. The rental was very comfortable and felt like home. Lots of sleeping spaces to choose from. Do some research so you don’t miss out. There are fun activities such as cliff jumping (from a variety of heights) and rope swinging. Having or renting a boat for the week is strongly recommended (almost necessary for a large group). We rented a pontoon boat from Captain Rogers in Rockwood. He was friendly and provided good service. We really enjoyed cruising around Kineo to the cove sitting under the cliffs. The owner, Libby, was very helpful and provided great communication. I would highly recommend this location for a family.

Fantastic week in a fantastic home!

The house was a wonderful place for our family to gather. We enjoyed staying in Mt. Kineo where the primary mode of transportation is walking or golf carts. How wonderful to be someplace with no cars! The house was exactly as described and Libby could not have been a better host! She is warm and welcoming and answers questions right away. We will return!

Live life in the slow lane.

We returned to Kineo a second year to enjoy it just as much as last year. The mountain lake setting is idyllic and house is nestled in the most secluded part of the peninsula. We enjoyed rounds of golf, boating and a night out at the Birches. We just love Kineo and Libby has been an amazing host every year.

Perfect family getaway.

Our getaway was the epitome of relaxation. Libby was the most hospitable of any of our past rentals to date. She managed to predict all of our needs for island living including fueled up golf carts, boat slips and a brand new charcoal grill. Our sun soaked days were consumed by hiking, swimming in pristine waters and golf on a well maintained course, all steps from our front door. Kineo is a special quiet place and a treat to discover. Our family has so many precious memories from our week there.

A little bit of paradise

Our stay at the Mitchell house was an experience that my entire family will cherish for a lifetime. To begin with, one of my grown daughters said this house just feels like home... it is incredibly comfortable, has everything that you could ever need for your family, and is in one of the most beautiful areas in Maine. The best part of Kineo is that there are no vehicles or stores. We hiked, biked, ran, paddleboarded, played golf, and kayak and more importantly spent a lot of time together as a family and this is priceless. If you are looking for a great family vacation where you just appreciate your family this is the place to go. Libby, the owner is amazing, helpful, and so open with her house. If you are looking for a once in a lifetime FAMILY vacation, this is the place and the memories you will gain will amaze you and make you glad you went. You will be relaxed and at peace when you leave and sorry to be getting back into a car!!!!!!

wonderful vacation in a unique setting

Our family consisting of ourselves plus our two adult children, their spouses and their children (9 of us in all) ) spent the week of 8/13-8/20/16 at the Mitchells. The house was comfortable and well-appointed with more than enough space to accommodate all of us. The Mitchells were always available to answer questions before and during our trip either by phone or email. They made us feel most welcome and they were generous in the use of the golf cart and "rhino" with gas provided which made it so easy to get around. We also enjoyed biking (brought our own supplemented with theirs), kayaking and hiking. We were able to kayak over to Kineo from the dock in Rockwood in about a half hour, but had to wait a day to bring the kayaks over because it was raining on the day of arrival. Being on the water in the late afternoon and early morning was magical. Some of the family also played golf. Most days included time at pebble beach where the children loved plunging into the lake from the rope swing. All in all it was a relaxing vacation away from crowds, noise and cars which will provide us with many happy memories.

The house was fantastic and Mt Kineo is magical

This is a new house on a great island on Moosehead Lake. We meet some of the owners when we got there and they were so gracious. All that we needed for a wonderful 2 weeks was present-great kitchen, lots of towels and bedding, comfortable chairs, open space to hang out, and of course the fun golf cart and ATV. This house is made for family get togethers and really fits a lot of people. The finished basement or "kids cave" has 4 bunk beds, comfortable sofas and a full bath. We had some hot days and it was so cool in the basement. Mt Kineo is a place to relax and re-connect. The golfing is wonderful. We canoed frequently, climbed the mountain, and took great walks around the island. My favorite was our twice daily swims at pebble beach-crystal clear, brisk-so refreshing- I miss it. Paul who is the supervisor at the golf course is so helpful and his wife Mary is the greatest baker- try her woopie pies at the clubhouse and you can order the most divine carrot cake. Fridays the lobster truck comes into Rockwood which is a treat. So it was a magical stay and I would highly recommended it we will be back. Mary

A+ House and Amenities

We had a great vacation! It rained a lot so we spent more time than expected in the house. The house design was perfect for our family of 9 (6 adults, 3 kids) plus one dog. The house is cozy and quiet with plenty of room for everyone to have a comfortable place to sit and read, play games, watch movies, take naps, etc. We loved the camp fire for s'mores and ghost stories. Although we used the indoor fireplace more due to the rain. The kids had a great time on the rope swing down on Pebble Beach, the guys got in a golf match, we climbed Kineo and went blueberry picking! The house is very clean and is more than adequately stocked with towels, sheets, paper goods, etc. The only things we had to bring were clothes and food. The kitchen was fully equipped. Thank you for sharing your home. We hope to come back next year!

Paradise!

My family spent the week recently and this place is AMAZING. The home is spacious, immaculate and luxurious (even nicer than the pictures show) and the island itself is magical. The family was so helpful in getting us in and situated and we really appreciated that. They were always just a phone call away w/ any questions we had. The locals were also very friendly and very helpful. Our children (ages 2-19) really enjoyed the golf cart rides and exploring the island, looking for wildlife. We sat by the fire, made smores, BBQ'd, played board games, watched DVD's, went for walks, fished, boated, golfed, hung out at the clubhouse, ate at fantastic restaurants and much more. Believe it or not, there was lots of peaceful down time too. We all got to catch up as a family w/out computers, TV, cellphones, texting and all the craziness. It was a very special time for us. Kineo Island is almost surreal in it's beauty. We've never seen such a place. There are so many memories that'll last us a lifetime. We long to get back there and you can bet we will.

My New Favorite Place in the World

My wife and 2 kids (ages 10 and 13) had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful home last week and we had a wonderful time. We've been to Disney World (twice), have done cruises, California, Florida (Gulf Coast), Cape Cod, etc. but this for me was much more relaxing and enjoyable than any of those as it truely was a 'get away from it all' vacation. The house sits on it's own pond in the middle of a very picturesque and challenging 9-hole golf course (i.e. your 'driveway' connects to the 2nd fairway) and you get around in a golf cart and the Pro Hauler - which my kids loved tooling around on. Mount Kineo Isle itself is quite fascinating in that it housed very large and popular hotels from the 1880's through a few years ago and there's a lot of history there, including some of those original structures. In addition to golf, we did * swimming (beaches at the base of Kineo are minutes away by golf cart) * boating (a private slip as well as tube is provided) * hiked up Mount Kineo (beautiful views) * fishing (obviously), and * built bonfires to make S'mores (firepit on pond shore in front of house) We also prepared all but one meal there in a fantastic kitchen (this never happens at home) and even got to read some books. The lack of connectedness to the civilized world was really a big plus in that we all sat and watched movies together which, again, doesn't happen very often at home. Yes there are some logistical challenges if you don't have a boat (which we didn't - we rented a couple of times and it is pricey ($200-$500 per day) to do so) but the locals are very friendly and helpful in getting you to the house. All in all I look forward to returning in the next few years with other family members and friends who saw our pictures and expressed a strong interest in going. Highly recommended for 'crazy busy' families like ours who are constantly going in separate directions and need a place to reconnect.

My family fell in love with Moosehead Lake and Kineo in the 70"s. Finally, we built our special log home. Our family gathers there whenever possible--even in the winter when a snowmobile is required to cross the ice. My husband Jim wanted this place for our four children, eleven grandchildren, and all the other wonderful folk who have joined our family circle. We lost Jim in September of 2016 but his memory shines bright on all who come to enjoy our piece of paradise.
