About this property

Sea of Cortez Beach Access off your Front Steps

The Sea of Cortez beach egress is directly off the front steps of our Casa. View our YouTube Video titled 'Walk to the Beach' found in photo gallery and see for yourself. Enjoy unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez to the east and exceptional Sierra de La Giganta Mountain views to the west from your private upper 'Margarita' terrace. The authentic Mexican Village of Loreto center is a quick 5 minute drive by car or 15 minute (+/-) walk down the beach to the malecon. We are confident that you will be very pleased with our Casa and the established Costa Loreto neighborhood with its beautifully landscaped cactus gardens, palm trees and shaded pergola and palapa style patios.

Just a few feet from the Sea of Cortez, you will discover La Casa de Ensueno, the perfect place to stay in Loreto for relaxation and for exploration of Baja California Sur. Between the soaring peaks of the Sierra de La Giganta Mountains and the beautiful azure Sea of Cortez, is the soul stirring historic Mexican fishing village of Loreto. Our Casa is situated within easy walking distance to the boat harbor, malecon, banks, restaurants, shopping and Loreto Village Center where you will find the Church.

La Casa de Ensueno is perfect for travelers who do not want the typical hotel atmosphere. The tasteful Mexican accommodations and decor will make you feel very comfortable and relaxed during your stay. Soon, you will find yourself gazing at beautiful sunrises over the Sea of Cortez and sunsets over the Sierra de la Giganta mountain range. As the sky casts its stunning colors against the Isla Coronado and Isla Carmen hillsides and the mountain ranges of the Sierra de la Giganta, you will soon fall deep under the spell of Loreto.

La Casa de Ensueno is a two story spacious property that offers two separate and private living quarters, La Ventana (2 bedroom / 2 bathroom with ~2900 sq ft including outdoor living areas) and El Jardin (2 bedroom / 1 bathroom with ~750 sq ft). The property also has a 1200 sq ft garage named La Giganta for secure inside boat and auto storage that is available upon advance request for an additional fee.

The colorful second floor living quarters named La Ventana has a full kitchen with dishwasher, two large master bedrooms with King Size beds and back balcony access through sliding glass doors, two bathrooms with showers, family room, living room with full size sofa sleeper, and spacious dining room. La Ventana includes private access to the large covered front porch with comfortable bar top height table and swivel chairs, chaise lounges, and iron rocker chairs and side tables. In addition, you will have private access to the roof top 'Margarita' terrace that provides unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez to the east and exceptional Sierra de La Giganta Mountain views to the west. From La Ventana's large front covered porch, roof top 'Margarita' terrace, and from several of the interior living spaces, you will have stunning views of the Sea of Cortez and Isla Coronado and Isla Carmen hillsides and the Sierra de la Giganta Mountain range.

Each of the two separate and private living quarters of this colorful Mexican Casa can be rented individually by the day (5 day minimum), week or by the month. The entire Casa, Outdoor Living Spaces, & Garage (~4,800 sq ft) is also available for longer term periods dependent upon availability.

Great house, great location

Casa Esueno was wonderful! Terri, who greeted us and gave us our keys upon arrival, was so warm and helpful. The house was comfortable and well appointed. It had everything we needed. We especially loved sitting on the decks with our coffee in the mornings and cocktails at sunset! I would suggest having a car if staying here, although not coompletely necessary. We did walk into town a few times along the beach, which was lovely! The only thing we didn't love was the amount of construction that was happening in the neighborhood. It could get noisy at times, but we generally weren't bothered by it too much. Overall this was a great place to stay in Loteto!

Great home base for exploring Loreto

Bert and Terri's Casa de Ensueno is the perfect place to call home while in Loreto. It is just a short drive or bike ride from the city center, but far enough away from to truly allow for relaxation. The beach is just steps away, and there are enough kayaks for a group of 4 to hit the sea and do some ocean exploring. The home itself has all the amenities and more, including a great kitchen and living/dining room, amazing and warm showers (great after jumping into the ocean), cozy king beds, a perfect sun deck, and an amazing roof deck up top (perfect for sunrises/ sunsets). I do recommend that you get a rental car in loreto, as it makes getting into town (and around town on roadtrips / excursions) much more accessible. Bert and Terri and Tere (your contact in Loreto) made the whole process very easy and I would definitely recommend this place to all friends.

Peaceful stay

We just returned from Loreto and a great week seeing blue whales, grey whales, lovely mission, beautiful sunrises from the front terrace and sunsets from the rooftop area. The house was very warm and welcoming. Beds extremely comfortable. Everything we needed to prepare a meal. Unfortunately we were not able to make use of the kayaks due to windy conditions which just means we will have to return! Enjoyed walking into town saying hello to all the people and the dogs. We did rent a car which helped out when we went grocery shopping and allowed us to explore a little further. The wifi connection was very good. We would definitely recommend this house for a peaceful and relaxing stay. The owners were very prompt in responding to us and answering all questions and the manager was very helpful.

We Had an excellent stay in Loreto and our accommodations were perfect for our family of four.

The house we stayed in was in a secure area just far enough from town to meet our needs for privacy, but close enough to walk down beach to town. Beach and views from house were stunning. We found a rental car helpful in meeting our needs to explore the area. We loved the spacious areas in the home and the outside patios were relaxing with lots of lounge chairs and tables. The king sized beds in both large rooms were comfortable and quiet. Wonderful books, movies and accessories in the kitchen. Bert was timely in answering all our questions about Loreto . We came over Thanksgiving and it is an extremely quiet time to come to Loreto, end of the low season we were told. We pretty much had the beaches and town to ourselves. Locals were nice and never pressured us to buy anything. We enjoyed many of the restaurants that Bert recommended, with the La Picazon being our favorite. We highly recommended staying at La Casa Ensueno.

Adventure in paradise from the house of dreams

We had a wonderful stay! We especially appreciated the bowl of fresh fruit upon our arrival.    La casa de ensueno was perfect for the needs of our group. It is comfortably furnished so everyone had a sense of personal space, a huge accomplishment for a group of 7! The sliding glass doors between the two living spaces is brilliant for when one group is watching tv and the other is playing cards or studying for SCUBA certification.   We were so appreciative to have all the luxury amenities like a dishwasher and laundry facilities! The kitchen is very complete, as well. We enjoyed grinding our own Mexican coffee beans each morning and blending our own mixed drinks in the evening. The mattresses and bedding were very comfortable as were the ceiling fans and air conditioning!  Having TV and wi-fi was fantastic! We enjoyed the library of DVDs, too.   We used the bikes to get to town and get groceries as well as for a fun adventure at Sunday market. We loved the kayaks as well. We paddled to Picazon, the restaurant up the coast, only to discover that it was closed! Always bring plenty of fresh water and snacks!   We met Juve and Sara of Sea and Land Tours and took pangas out to Diazante, Coronado and Carmen Islands. The older boys got SCUBA certified and all of us enjoyed the warm water and beautiful fish. We saw dolphins numerous times as well as flying rays! We also took a day trip to the cave paintings, oasis and San Javier. Our time went much too fast. We hope to return in spring to meet whales, and my daughter would like to take the mule trip into the Sierra Gigante. We borrowed a copy of The "Corazon of the Vaquero", a DVD documentary and became enchanted by the ways of the original old west.

Average

The internet only worked off and on for the first five days. Property manager was here every day trying to fix it. Television has complicated remote which the laminated instructions baffled us as well as manager. Shower has no grab bars and for a 70 year old with Parkinson’s it’s pretty dangerous getting in and out as the edge has a huge step over ledge. No towel racks either. The sofa in the television area had no back cushion and they had put throw pillows there to help manage some back support but still very uncomfortable sitting with the back cushions missing. Also you need a car. We found white pet hair in the corners of the floor as if someone with a fog had been here. This neighborhood is the furthest away from town along a string of houses. You could walk along the beach but it’s a hike. Also the house is not on the beach side of the road as you’d imagine from the picture - it’s across the driveway. If you try and cancel with vrbo - even with insurance it’s almost impossible so beware. House was stocked well and deck sitting nice. The people renting the lower half are here a month and you can hear them talking easily upstairs. Not sure I’d rent here again.

Wonderful location and well appointed

This property is in a great location, a nice, 20 minute walk, or short bike ride down the beach to the lovely town of Loreto. We felt very safe and secure, and the condo had everything we needed. We bought groceries and had everything item necessary to prepare meals and drinks. The bikes and kayaks were great, and really added to our stay. The floor plan worked well for two couples. We each had our own bedroom and bathroom with sufficient privacy. It was a good stay, and we hope to return.

Great getaway

The house was a terrific base for me, my two teenage (nearly adult) sons and their two friends. We spent three days on the water fishing and diving different islands, escaping the brutal August heat of Loreto. The spacious house had air-conditioning and fans (which sometimes was all we wanted) was a perfect place for the evenings. We took morning and evening swims at the nearby gulf, and did a little kayaking, too. (One suggestion: Provide key for the big garage door as it's a bear to get the kayaks out from the side.) We had one massive nighttime storm that flooded the streets that lead to the house, but we wound our way around the neighborhoods to find dry passages in our rental car (bike riding was out of the question both because of the flooding and the heat...and one bike has a flat). Most restaurants in town were open and time and again we were the only non-locals. Tere was there as promised to open the house, and all in all a terrific time.

MAR DE COTES Loreto BCS

Usually head to the East Cape this time of year for our anniversary and always using VRBO however it had been 15 years since I visited Loreto. So glad we made that decision as the town really has kept is small town charm. The locals were so friendly and town was very clean. Every morning I would walk to the Malecon and throughout the town and you would see everyone cleaning the street and sidewalks. Lots of pride by local. La Casa de Ensueno was the perfect place to stay. Close to town however enough of distance to feel like you had your own private beach. Owner Bert and Terri were amazing in the communication and booking process. Casa had everything you could ask for "even a lime juicer for great margaritas" . Views of the mountains and morning sunrise was an event in itself. The refrigerator/freezer was large which I usually do not find in VRBO's in Baja. This was perfect since I fish and was able to freeze my catch. One item that the owners do that set this VRBO apart from my past experience is the overview of places to eat and things to do they send you after you book your stay. Thank you Bert and Terri Looking at calendar for next year On a side note when we travel to Baja we usually take items for local Orphanages. We found a local lady "Linda Turner" ( everyone seems to know her) who works with the children. Always nice to give back a little something.

Paradise Found!

COMPLETE relaxation attained within this casa for only short eight days! We have nothing but positive comments to give in this review. The home is: clean, spacious, comfortable, well-equipped, conveniently located, safe and provides a cozy atmosphere. Bert and Terri were accommodating, kind and easy to reach. Their property rental connection in Loreto is a delightful and charming native woman, Teri. She is friendly and sweet, but mostly, she immediately gave me a sense of calm as we entered a foreign place. Teri-you are an asset and hope to see you again. We spoke to some of the neighbors near the casa and locals in town. All were polite and helpful. We will go back, just not soon enough! First true vacation we have had that almost required a forced eviction (ha, ha). DO NOT PASS UP this Loreto, BCS, Mexico gem! Wonderful!

We had a very excellent stay at Bert and Terri’s! Although it was a little farther from town than we thought, it was a quick walk to/from town on the beach. It was very quiet and safe. We got to use the kayaks one morning when the water was calm and the sun was rising. Everything was very clean and comfortable. And the patios were fabulous! We met Tere at Loreto Solutions and navigated the way to the house and gave us a thorough tour so we felt at home right away. Loreto is wonderful and highly recommend staying at Bert and Terri’s property.

About the host

Hosted by Bert & Terri Ferguson

Host profile image
Bert and Terri are active scuba divers, sport fisherman, hikers, mountain bikers and off road enthusiasts. Overall, we are adventurous and have a great love and appreciation for the outdoors!

Why they chose this property

In Loreto Baja California Sur, we found a region with a rich and vibrant history. Loreto was the original capital of all the Californias over 300 years ago. It was established in 1697 by the explorer Juan Maria Salvatierra, a Jesuit priest. You can see evidence of this history in the Missions, municipal buildings and the hearts and souls of the Loretanos.

Loreto is a natural playground for anyone who loves the outdoor life. Its azure, clear waters and tranquil coves provide scuba divers and snorkelers unparalleled underwater beauty and an abundance of sea life. Near the islands, the waters provide sportsmen with perhaps the greatest fishing in the world, with record catches of sailfish, tuna and dorado. The islands are easily visited by boat and such a trip will no doubt include sightings of sea lions basking in the sun on rocky coasts and dolphins leaping across the bow wave of the boat.

Sea kayakers glide through the warm waters of Loreto’s bays to camp at remote beaches and sleep under the stars.

For those who are more land-bound adventurous, the Sierra de la Giganta’s provides many opportunities for mountain biking, horseback riding trails and hiking over ancient trails used for hundreds of years.

What makes this property unique

Our Casa is ~50 feet from the beach and ocean, with easy access directly off the front steps of the property. The Village oceanfront malecon is walking distance from the Casa and is an ideal place for an afternoon stroll; or in the early morning, when the offshore islands appear like floating rocks in the Sea of Cortéz. The locals say that this is “where the mountains come to swim.”
