We had a short family visit in Dec and had very typical weather - mostly rain. The house and property were pretty much as listed. Lovely view of the lake with Christmas lights in the evening. The house was spotlessly clean if a little spartan in furnishings. We would stay again
We rented the Lake House cottage to accommodate extra family members over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The house was perfect for us--bedrooms for everyone, two full baths, a large open space to gather, beautiful windows out onto the lake view, an atmospheric fireplace inset, a nice gas stove and sufficient kitchen space for our group, good furnace for the unexpectedly cold weather, and a lovely yard for enjoying the lake view (sadly too cold for water activities). Can't wait for the next time we need extra space!!
We truly enjoyed our stay here. It was conveniently located for our stay prior to going on our cruise out of Seattle. There are many choices for eating nearby, about 15 mins from Sea-Tac Airport, but also far enough away that you feel like you're secluded.
This place was so cute; the neighborhood, the lake, the ducks, all of it. We had plenty of room w 4 adults staying there. The kitchen was adequately equipped for eating and some cooking so that was nice. The check in and check out process was a breeze.
Had a very relaxing time at the lake house. The location was perfect. Loved the quiet lake and the kayaks. Such wonderful take out options in Burien. Would definitely recommend this place.
The house location and classic lake house feeling is so relaxing. We loved eating by the lake and enjoyed walking downtown. Many options for dining out and a small town feel. The house is spacious and peaceful. My child enjoyed the kids corner with books and toys. We also enjoyed the wide selection of board games and outdoor equipment. Many family memories made!
House worked well for us, to explore downtown Seattle and Mt Rainier! It’s a quiet area and backing onto a lake is amazing. We had a great kayak on the lake one evening with beautiful pics of the sun setting. The gas stove was nice to cook on. There are plenty of local stores along with grocery shopping near by. Would definitely recommend this house.
Burien Lake is absolutely gorgeous! We live within a few blocks of this property. Initially, we booked it for my in-laws to have there own place while we visited, but they canceled and we decided to keep the booking. I'm glad we did. The lake is private and there is no public access, so it meant a lot to us to be able to enjoy it. The house was clean and comfortable. We were happy with the rental and would stay again for sure!
4 of 5 of the siblings met for a much needed reunion. All Highline High School graduates from the years 60, 65, 67 and 71 (67 unable to attend) Our little town of Burien has changed dramatically since we were residents. We enjoyed the revitalize town and High School, each of holding on to our memories of what once was.

Charming but not well maintained
The house is in a nice location and has a really nice living room looking out over the lake. But basic things are not so good. Shower in main bathroom gets floor all wet. Faucets are loose. Woke up to a puddle in the master bedroom - maybe the roof is leaking? Guest bedroom had dog hair on the blankets. Kitchen is quite nice though. Bottom line is that it’s a charming cabin in poor repair.

Home was not what we expected
The home wasn't being taken care of very well. The view of the lake from the living room was marred due to two of the windows were in ill repair. The master shower could have been much cleaner than it was, for lighting in the third bedroom there were stringed lights which would have been ok but 1/3 of the lights were out, there was no curtain for the window in that room and the mattress was so thin that you could feel the bedframe slats. There were ant traps in the kitchen, the cookware was worn out and needed to be replaced. The front yard and front porch were in desperate need of a cleanup. We didn't have children with us. There was a nice little play area in the living room but, the bookshelf was very unstable, it could be hazardous to a child.

Wonderful location...home is rustic and needs some love
Such a rare find in the Seahurst area for BnB so to that end I would say, it was a great location. The lake is beautiful and even in December it was nice enough to play in the yard and enjoy the view. We didn't use it but it has an outdoor area with a fireplace - could be great in the summer.
What we liked:
- the location was perfect (so close to the airport and shopping if needed)
- the lake access was a treat as the weather was mild and we enjoyed playing in the yard
- the house has lots of room to gather and have family time
- nice to have a W/D available (BYO detergent)
What to keep in mind:
- home is rustic at best and needs some TLC
- bring your own towels, bedding to be warm, blow dryer, foil and such, and ANYthing you need to be comfortable (cleaning supplies, detergent, paper towels and so on)
- master bedroom has a double bed rather than a queen so it is a challenge to accommodate two people.
Overall, we enjoyed a nice visit with our family for the holidays but would likely choose another (not many to choose from in the area) home unless something changes with the care of this great location.
Lovely property but several lights out i the ceiling. Light switches were hard to coordinate with the lights. For a property on the lake there were no beach towels. Towels and dishes were sparse. There
was a nice place to sit at the lake and the kayak and peddle boat were great. I would rent this property again. Very relaxing place in a great location!
The property was wonderful - very spacious inside, cozy and direct access to the most awesome secret lake. Very central to all things south Seattle, walking distance to Old Town Burien with lots of dining and drinking options. Loved it - thank you!
Enjoyed the lake and the convenient location to Burien Center. We were visiting for the 1 year opening anniversary of Logan Brewing which is run by my daughter and her boyfriend and the house was a 2 min drive or 10 min walk to there.
We loved this house, the view, the property, the location, and the cabana. It was a comfortable and roomy, with plenty of private space for me to work. I would definitely recommend this rental, and would stay here again.
The house was older and had a little dust around the edges, but nothing that wasn't in my own home. Because the home is older, the bathrooms were very outdated. My (tall) husband and I had to squat in the showers because the nozzles were so short. Very firm beds. The kitchen was great, newly remodeled and clean. The house was set up so nicely for little kids with toys, books, and games inside and the best play structure outside. And beautiful views of the lake.
We had a great stay at Irene's! Perfect spot for a week away. Lots of lake toys, indoor toys, books, etc for kids, nicely updated kitchen, great low bank with a giant grassy yard, lovely cabana. We apent moat of our days down at the lake's edge.
Cabin is a tad 'rustic' to comment on what others have said but we found that very charming and reminiscent of our childhood family cabins.
Only comment that is so so minor is the coffee pot was incredibly small and leaky and we drink a lot of coffee, so we had to make quite a few pots and had quite a few spills!
Would love to come back next summer!
We had a really nice time here as a family. Our hosts provided a paddle boat and kayaks and lots of non-perishable food for us to enjoy. The beds were very comfortable and there were many towels and great outdoor seating. A wonderful trip! It’s a bit pricy at $750 a night with all the fees and taxes, but with all the extras, it helped!

Beautiful Lake but be prepared to clean before settling in and deal with false accusations
The good - the location is so lovely. The house is bigger than what was listed and sits on a large property up to the lake. The lake is awesome, calm, and there are plenty of things to do on and by the lake. The town is adorable. Lots of nice restaurants offering takeout and great places to walk.
The bad - when we arrived, we had to clean up because there was a lot of dust everywhere. We also had to re-wash the linens because they were all wet. Everything by the lake was pretty grimy but we made sure to clean before letting our little one play with anything. Before check out time, the cleaning person came in without knocking or anything, which wouldn't be that big of a deal except for coronavirus pandemic. When we left we received bizarre texts from the owner about being in the property after checkout (we weren't) and that everything was dirty (it wasn't). I'm not sure if she was upset that the cleaning lady left and came back later or what, but we take our health and safety very seriously and were sure to tell the cleaning lady we would be out in just a few minutes. The owner also tried to charge us more money, but when we asked for any proof of what she was saying, she sent a picture of trash bags by the trash can outside (where trash bags go). She also said a lamp was broken, but that was also not true as the lamp was working but unstable and in the same condition as when we arrived.
We have stayed in dozens of rental homes over the past 12 years, and I have never had an experience like that with an owner in the past.
We always make sure to take care of the places we stay. One minor thing to note is that we were there for the 4th and all of the neighbors shot off fireworks late into the night. This usually wouldn't bug us, but our 2 year old daughter was scared by them sadly.
Overall, the location is wonderful but I couldn't recommend this house based on how poorly it is kept (as another reviewer put in need of tlc) and the awful experience with the owner.

About the host
Hosted by Irene
I am an international school teacher. I live with my family abroad. We love coming home to the Lake each summer to enjoy family, Summer weather, and the area.
Why they chose this property
This property is near the airport. It's easy to get "home" after making your way through a busy airport. This property is extremely versatile. Freeways are super easy and fast to get on, mass transit is close, and Seattle and Tacoma are right around the corner! Beaches, ferries, islands, downtown, shopping, malls, delicious restaurants are all a hop, skip, and a jump away! Even Snoqualmie (Cascades Mountains) are close- if you prefer to hike, camp, or ski.
What makes this property unique
This 1930's bungalow/cabin is an original and was once used as a fishermen's cabin. Although it is updated to reflect a cozy atmosphere for today's traveler, it still holds some original features from yesteryear.
