Nestled in the unique Villa Verde neighborhood, one of Phoenix's historic areas, our private guest house is 5 min from great restaurants, 10 min to Sky Harbor Airport, Encanto Golf Course, sports/concert venues, museums, and Downtown Phoenix nightlife. At the intersection of I-10, I-17, and 60 freeways, for convenient access. Guest house is stand alone, fully furnished, has it's own A/C & heat.

Perfect for solo travelers and couples, this 500 sqft gorgeous guest house has a reclining love seat and 65" flat screen smart TV to connect to your Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO GO, and online cable channels. The TV is mounted on a fully articulating arm so it can be angled toward the bed, loveseat, etc. and Wi-Fi to keep you connected. Snuggle up on a king size memory foam mattress with fresh linens and feather light pillows will instantly bring you to dreamland. Guests can also enjoy access to a private backyard.

Guest access
Guests will have their own keys to both the back yard and guest house to come and go as they please. There is a private locked gate entrance to the back yard where guests can enjoy the outdoors. The guest house is located in the back yard, unattached to the main house fully private.

Other things to note:
Casa Papaya is located in downtown Phoenix. Being the fifth largest city in the United States, Phoenix has the typical metropolitan sounds, planes, trains, automobiles. Many of our guests have reviewed Casa Papaya as a quiet oasis from the surrounding hustle and bustle of the city, but we still choose to remind guests that they are not in a rural area. We love our city, and the local business and people that make it great, and know you will too.

We try to keep our rates low for guests, and part of that is being energy conscious. We ask that guests turn up the AC whenever leaving the unit so that it is not running continuously while no one is home.

There are two skylights in the unit, one near the bed, and one over the kitchen. If you are a sleeper that is sensitive to light in the morning, you may want to bring a sleep mask.

Short stay

We had a quick trip to Phoenix. Our Verbo was centrally located to everything we chose to do. They had a resource book with food and activities, that was so thoughtful and well don’t for those that don’t know where or what to do. Our room was separate from the house and very comfortable! Would choose again if we come back to the area.

Just what I needed for solo travel

I needed a comfortable place to stay for a short trip to Phoenix. Place was well kept, very clean and comfortable bed. Owner was very quick to respond. Street was quiet, no issues parking right in front of the house. Good experience!

This was the perfect cozy little place to stay while jetting around Arizona! Comfortable and lovely!

Everything went perfectly with this stay. Easy check-in with the lock box, comfortable bed, beautifully decorated. I didn’t need a fancy place or a lot of extra amenities since I was doing so much, so this was perfect. Stephne was great with communication, too. Thank you so much! This place was just what I needed for this trip.

Spot on!

Stephne and Jon are great hosts, responded quickly to us and make check in very easy with our late arrival. The space was very comfortable! The only thing we didn’t have and appreciate at a VRBO is a way to cook. We made the best with the fridge and microwave. Thank you for being very attentive hosts.

Nice, cute place with comfortable looking courtyard. Accessing the lock box was difficult. Host accused us of violating the contract when our granddaughter helped us take in our luggage. A simple question to us would have negated the rather tasteless email they sent. We wouldn't rent from them again.

Kind Owners & Clean ideal location

The first thing I noticed when we arrived was how clean and fresh the suite was. It’s rare to find VRBO‘s that aren’t stale. This was not the case. The place was very well-kept. The location was ideal since we were travelling all over Arizona. The decor was well thought out, it was one of my favourite parts. My only gripe would be the WIFI was very poor, causing the smart tv to lag constantly, but we were patient and were able to watch some movies at night. We would love to stay here again when we’re back in Phoenix. The hosts were very kind, and weren’t overbearing, they were kind and respectful.

Our stay ROCKED! If you dig a clean, beautiful, affordable well situated place with everything you need, this is the place to stay. Stephne and Jon were so kind when we met them during our stay. They really shoveled on the hospitality! The information binder was super helpful. We had an absolutely perfect stay, had everything we needed and we were close to all of the attractions.

Quiet city retreat

Property is, as always, well kept and very clean, and away from the hustle and bustle of the city despite being within city limits. Stephne and Jon are wonderful hosts! This was my second time staying at Casa Papaya and I know I will be returning for future trips.

Highly recommended.

Outstanding stay, they were extremely helpful, I rode to AZ on my motorcycle and they made extra care to allow me to park in front of their vehicles for security. They were helpful to turn down AC due to myself not being use to 75 degrees as I sleep. When checking in make sure u let them know 10 min before arrival so they can give u the key code. Check out was easy. Overall great experience.

Relaxing before surgery

I traveled with my husband from Oklahoma to have surgery at St Joseph’s through Barrow Brain and Spine. This adorable house was 2 miles from the hospital and so comfy for my preparation before surgery and my husbands stay while I was in the hospital. The owners are very attentive and responsive. Can’t say enough about this cute little home away from home.

Great location and decent lodging for an individual or couple

Really liked this place, and the owners are very kind and accommodating. The location is within 5 minutes of downtown, the convention center, and the sports complex, straight down Grand Avenue. It was perfect for me and cost significantly less than a hotel anywhere in the area during the early March "spring training" rush. It's also about 1/2 mile directly to an I-10 interchange, so it's really easy to come and go. The unit is cozy and comfortable. The bed is a memory foam mattress that is in good shape and firmly comfortable, but it does trap body heat and would benefit greatly from a gel topper for added cooling and comfort. For info purposes, the only indoor eating area is a "breakfast bar" which is quite tall, so if you're averse to climbing up onto high stools, and you don't like to eat in a recliner or an Adirondack chair outside, this might not be the perfect unit for you. There is a dual burner hot plate for cooking (as well as the microwave and convection oven), but there's very limited counter space, which didn't stop me from enjoying meals "at home" but did require a little planning and ingenuity. The convection oven doesn't do particularly well on its toaster setting, but I did eventually find an actual toaster in the cabinet. The refrigerator is not full size but was adequate for my stay of nearly a week. Good coffee was provided! The TV is nice and large, and it operates on a Roku stick. I wasn't used to Roku, so I didn't watch too much TV except for the free channels. The TV could also benefit from removing its legs and putting it on a standing table mount with a swivel so that it could also be viewed from the bed. (hint to the owners: I bought one of these for my TV at home for about $30, and it included the mounting screws for the back, taking less than 5 minutes to put the whole thing together). All in all, it was a very nice location and lodging, especially for the price, and you can't beat the owners, who are very nice folks.

Jon and Stephne are Phoenix transplants who share a love of Phoenix, the state of Arizona, nature, food, fun, and each other. They moved into Casa Papaya in 2018 and began their Air BnB service with the intention of providing the best possible guest house for visitors to the Phoenix Valley.

Stephne is a native of Edmonton, Canada and an avid hockey fan. Having lived in Phoenix for over a dozen years, she is a local expert on things to do and places to go. She loves traveling to different countries, as well as frequenting her favorite local haunts in her adopted city of Phoenix. She also sings, plays piano, and does leather work.If you have questions about what to do during your stay in Phoenix beyond the contents of this welcome book, she is a perfect guide.

Jon is a native of Virginia who moved to Phoenix from Nicaragua in 2013 to complete his masters degree at the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He loves traveling to emerging market countries, as well as day-trips to Northern Arizona during the hot summer months. In addition, he likes gardening, swimming pools, beer, juggling, and the Chicago Cubs.
