Exceptional atmosphere

We chose this property for our family vacation due to our family size, the privacy, and because it was about a halfway point between the three states we were all coming from. The atmosphere of the home impressed us immediately upon arrival and we enjoyed the cozy setup and amenities! We were able to spend the nights around the fire, playing board games in the large living area, and spent the days in nature and exploring Starved Rock State Park. Lovely stay! We highly recommend it! Josh & Anna did a wonderful job!

Great stay!

A very farmhouse experience - older home with a bit more bugs than usual in the summer, but set up with a lot of care and a well stocked kitchen. Easy communication with owners. We had a great stay for a family weekend. Close drive to Starved Rock.

Nice getaway

Home is well set up for families with small children. There are toys, games, and dishes for toddlers and kids. Our ages ranged from 7 months - 64 and we all were able to relax and enjoy the outdoors and time spent with each other inside. Hosts are very helpful.

Great place for a family getaway

The home has a very well-equipped kitchen with all kinds of pots, pans, appliances, etc and also things like salt, pepper, and spices. There is a full washer/dryer. We appreciated teh owners providing laundry detergent pods and dishwasher pods. There are 3 full bathrooms, although two are downstairs. There are 5 bedrooms (4 upstairs and 1 downstairs). There are several different living areas to hang out. We didn't use the outdoor features, but there is patio furniture, a screened porch, and a hot tub, and there are also lots of games. Overall, this was a very convenient place to house our large family.

Ladies retreat

We had a lovely stay. Close proximity to Starved Rock State Park which we enjoyed. Home has everything you need and a lot of cute extras. We spent a lot of time out on the deck with string lights, a wonderful spot to enjoy conversation, music and merriment. Thank you.

H & H Farmhouse

A perfect get away for our family! There was plenty to do for everyone and anyone. The inside and outside of the home were well equipped and places marked with what was accessible. It had such a homey, cozy feeling. We also enjoyed the peace and quiet of the area and all the wildlife we saw! Josh and Anna were prompt to address any questions. They are fantastic hosts!

About the host

My wife and I purchased the farmhouse from my family in 2017, after my grandmother passed away. No one else in the family wanted to buy it, and I couldn't bear to see it leave the family. We have spent two years renovating the property- driving most weekends from Chicago to Magnolia. The home is very special to us, and we are excited to share it!

Why they chose this property

We love spending time in our modern yet rustic farmhouse. We are equipped with WiFi, a hot tub, 20 walkable acres of forest, games, a fully stocked kitchen, and plenty of space for rest and relaxation!
The farm was owned by Josh's grandparents, who moved from Chicago to Magnolia in 1953. When Josh's grandmother passed away in 2016, Josh could not bear to see the farm leave the family. We purchased the farm a month after getting married, and rehabbed the farmhouse from Oct 2017-Oct 2019. The land is currently being used to farm hay, as we work to prepare the grounds for its original intent of organic farming.

What makes this property unique

We have installed a hot tub, which is perfect for relaxation. The forest surrounding the property provides great seclusion and peace. The Illinois River is about a 7 minute walk from the house and quick access by car, for those interested in canoeing, kayaking, or boating.
