Expectations were exceeded in Taboga
We recently had a family trip scheduled to Panama City and decided to detour over to Taboga. While we were not totally sure what to expect from the island as a whole, the experience exceeded our expectations. Taboga strikes a balance between being remote and still connected to the rest of the world. I would say the same describes the Beach House. Let's just say you take a boat and golf cart just to get to the house, yet there's still excellent wifi waiting for you.
The hosts were very accommodating and excellent communicators from the start. They helped us figure out what we might need at the house to make it enjoyable. There are pretty limited resources on the actual island, and having someone connected to folks on the island helped us live quite comfortably for the week. I would advise anyone to consider what they really want out of the trip and pack accordingly. I would also advise anyone to not to bring too much stuff either, because that would defeat the purpose of being there, plus it is a bit of an adventure to get to the house.
While we felt the photos provided on VRBO pretty much covered the extent of the grounds, the house can only be experienced in person. The layout is quirky but charming. The open living space looking out to the water was a unique experience that most properties on the island can't provide. The house was also big enough that we could all escape to our own space and catch the ever elusive downtime from family required to have a good vacation.
The private beach was very convenient for getting in the water on a whim. We never made it over to the public beach the entire week. I will warn future guests though, that private beach is only available 1/2 the time due to high tide. If you want your toes literally in the sand all day while you read, I don't know that this is the right fit for you. If you are content on a patio, right next to the ocean (with all the same sounds and smells) then you will be fine. Evenings at the house are quite wonderful, as the lights from the freighters and even the Panama skyline start to glow. We happened to be there for a full moon, which is spectacular as it rises over Little Taboga Island!
