About this property

Historic Farmhouse Uptown Near Tulane University

Step into secluded, tropical tranquility in this historic, renovated farmhouse in the University section of Uptown New Orleans! Enjoy the cathedral ceilings, abundant natural light, and open, inviting atmosphere inside, or the patio and lush garden outside. Built in the 1880s as a dairy farmhouse, around 1907, as the city grew, the owners sold the farm and the developer laid out streets. At this time the house was moved, by mule, a few hundred feet to its present location. The home is 3 blocks from Tulane University, near numerous restaurants and businesses, and about a 10 minute drive to the French Quarter and Medical District.

This home has a master bedroom with adjacent living room with sleeper sofa, a dining room, and an equipped kitchen with additional dining area and a washer/dryer. Wood floors, ceiling fans, high ceilings, a clawfoot tub and other original details create an open yet cozy setting from which to explore New Orleans. Fenced and situated in a cul de sac, the home, patio and garden offer a private, secure and serene environment to relax during your stay in the Crescent City.

Situated in the Marlyville neighborhood, the home is three blocks "lakeside" (north) of Tulane University, and close to numerous restaurants and businesses on Calhoun St. Its central location makes it easy to get to Audubon Park, the French Quarter, the Central Business and Medical Districts and the Convention Center. Tulane University, shops and restaurants are within walking distance blocks away. Uber and Lyft service is easy to get, and there is also a public bus service on Claiborne which can take you to downtown.

The home is set up as a duplex, and guests have access to the entire historic part of the home, as well as the fenced front patio and garden. Access to the addition and owner's residence is through the rear of the property.

Very Spacious New Orleans Home

Enjoyed this large, comfortable, quiet historic home. Appreciated having the entire downstairs available. Walked two short blocks to BBQ dinner the first night. Short drive to St Charles Streetcar. Never figured out how to find local TV stations and movies. Need directions. Owner quickly responded to all our questions.

Loved our stay!

Nick was really good with communications and the property was lovely and well optimized for guests. Clawfoot tub was really cute and the washer dryer and provided amenities were fantastic. It was close to Tulane, which was exactly what we were looking for. Would definitely book again!

Quiet and comfortable

Nicholas has spent a great deal of time to ensure guests have all they need and enjoy their stay. The house is spacious, comfortable, clean, quiet and secure. Great neighborhood, with easy access to everything. Welcome touches including water, coffee, wine and bathroom items such as soap, shampoo, lotion, etc was an added pleasure. We will definitely return to stay on our future trips to NOLA! Thanks for sharing your wonderful craftsmans home Nicholas!

Cozy Stay in a Unique Home

We had a lovely stay at Casa Robins. Nick was a responsive and helpful host. The house is beautiful, unique, and very comfortable. In addition to a spacious inside, the yard is a fantastic oasis in which to have your morning coffee. A quiet location, and an easy five minute walk to multiple restaurants and coffee shops. Would definitely recommend!

Sweet Southern Charm

We had the pleasure of staying at this amazing house the end of April 2019. It was a weekend get-away with my 2 daughters. It was perfect for the 3 of us. The house is so full of charm. We enjoyed drinking our morning coffee on the spacious adorable front porch, oh and the sun-room ! We watched butterflies flutter from plant to plant through the large glass doors of the sun-room. It was almost like we were staying in the tropics. We felt so safe and secure because of the large fence surrounding the property. The neighborhood is so peaceful and quiet. The owner Nick has thought of everything from the coffee in fridge, to shampoo, and soap if you forgot to bring yours. . As you enter the front door there is a notebook on the table of just about everything you need to know for your stay. Even a list of local restaurants which we tried. There are several places to eat just down the street. We also walked down the street to catch the trolley on beautiful spring morning. I would definitely recommend this house and I hope to come back again.

Charming and convenient

What a wonderful experience! Nicholas thought of everything-all of the little details made the difference and check in and check out were so easy. The home was so charming and a short Uber ride to downtown. The fenced in property was like sanctuary to the busy world outside and made us feel very secure.

He thought of everything

Easy keyless access. Dead end street, so quiet and easy to park. Close to Tulane where my daughter and I were visiting. Some ground coffee in the fridge for us, shampoo and soap, and even some oatmeal in the cabinet in case we got hungry! And did I mention the most comfortable bed ever? It was a great weekend.

We really enjoyed our stay! This property was really convenient to anything you

want to do in the area. Only a 20 min walk to get on a street car. This property is at the end of a dead end street which was nice to not have traffic going by. Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful house with lots of charm!

My mom and I stayed here during a recent trip to visit family. The house is beautiful and the sun room alone is worth the stay. The owner was very accommodating. After I made the reservation, our number of guests changed a couple of times and it was really easy to make the change without having to cancel and re-book. It was apparent that he wanted our stay to be everything we wanted. The house is beautiful and charming. There is plenty of space with a very large kitchen. The sun room is amazing and I loved having my morning coffee out there with the breeze coming in. I slept on the sofa bed and it was very comfortable. We visited in late February so parades were in full swing but the neighborhood was very quiet and the residents in the area all seemed very friendly. With family in New Orleans, we will definitely be back at some point and already plan on staying here again.

Wonderful Home, Great Location, Exceptional Value

My wife and I had the best time in New Orleans which was only enhanced by the choice we made to stay in this beautiful home. We really enjoyed the convenience and the accommodations afforded by this beautiful old farmhouse that has been restored to show off many of the fine characteristics of an antique New Orleans home. It has everything you could want including a great back yard that is like a tropical paradise. in fact, this property gives you the sense that you are isolated in your own world. The bed is very comfy, and there is plenty of room to relax, or cook, or read a book or whatever you want to do and you feel secure while you are inside. We enjoyed the front porch, too. This home will not disappoint you. We highly recommend it for your next stay in Nawlins! By the way, Moe's BBQ down the street is a must try. Good stuff. You are 15 minutes from the Quarter, 10 minutes from Magazine St/St. Charles St and there is just about anything you need along Clariborne Ave. We have rented a number of vacation homes in the past, and this one is among the best.

This is an excellent example of an antique home restored. Original red heart pine hardwood floors throughout and soaring ceilings like you have never seen before. Convenient location at the end of a quiet street just walking distance to at least a dozen restaurants and businesses. One queen size bed in one bedroom, a fold-out couch in the great room was fine. Washer/dryer, full kitchen. Cool place!

Charming historic dream house getaway

My family spent a quick weekend at the house, and it was an absolute dream getaway. We didn’t get to spend nearly enough here. We would love to return for a longer stay! The house was clean, private and quite, and absolutely beautiful. We felt so privileged to stay at such a beautiful historic home and loved reading about its timeline and imagining the farmers’ lives and the families who called this place home long before us. The hosts were extremely accommodating, friendly, and accessible. I have already recommended this place to several friends! You will not be disappointed!!

A gorgeous historic home with all the modern comforts

We were the first fortunate renters of this beautiful property. Situated very close to Tulane, it is perfectly located for any parents visiting their kids at the university. But because of its charm and looks, it also makes for a lovely romantic vacation. The property is immaculately clean, the bed super comfortable, the antique and modern furniture a great mix for both style and comfort. In the morning, the sun pours in through the windows illuminating the shiny wood floors in such a way that is positively magical. Nicholas, the owner and landlord who also lives on the premises, couldn’t have been a more perfect host. Plenty of spare towels, water in the fridge, a washer and drier with laundry soap, even details like shampoo and body wash and extra toilet paper were provided. Not too mention the complimentary bottle of wine on the kitchen table. He was also easy to reach at all times, although he was traveling, and extremely helpful with everything. We will most definitely return!

Why they chose this property

This Eastlake-style home was originally constructed as a dairy farmhouse in the mid-1880s, and located nearby. It is an early example of a catalogue home, and it has at least one “twin” in uptown New Orleans. Around 1907, as the city grew, the owners sold the farm and the developer laid out streets. At this time the house was moved, by mule, a few hundred feet to its present location. The new owners added the bathroom, which today has the original claw foot tub. Throughout much of 1900’s, the Mart Family not only lived here, but five members of the family were born in the home. One of them, Gertrude Mart, lived here until the late 1980s.

By the 1990s, the place was derelict, and I purchased it from her heirs and began a complete renovation. I preserved as many of the original features as possible, while adding the addition on the rear. Most of the windows are original, and you can notice the circular markings on the clapboard on the front porch, which indicate that the wood was cut by a steam-powered saw. The armoire is also original to the home, and if you go outside to the rear of the house, near the left corner looking towards the street, you will see the brick foundation for the water tank.

Years ago, there was also a barn in the lot to the right of the house, which was the site of many dances according to the previous owners. The barn ultimately burned down; however some of the wood was salvaged. It appears that some of it was used for sills in this house, and also for rafters, the latter which suggests that the roof was damaged in a hurricane.

What makes this property unique

This home is private, it is on a deep, fenced lot on a cul de sac Uptown with easy access to all parts of the city.. It is quiet, tranquil, comfortable and secure.
