About this property

La Maison d'Elise - A dream of calm and serenity for the holidays

Ideally located at the edge of the Dordogne in the Lot department, this large house is ideal for holidays with family or friends.

It has indeed 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, living rooms and dining rooms, as well as a large wooded park and 3 terraces, allowing everyone to find their haven of peace and enjoy the tranquility of the place.

A swimming pool facing south but nevertheless hidden behind large trees, will charm those who want to relax out of sight, while others can take the little secret path at the end of the garden, which leads discreetly to the town, to go do some shopping in anticipation of a good barbecue for dinner, go get the croissants in the morning at the bakery ...
(A video is at your disposal, thanks to which you will be able to see the extent and the beauty of the property. The link is at the bottom of the page)

All in a magnificent region, known for sheltering countless medieval castles, markets where you hesitate between truffles, foie gras and organic producers, spectacular caves famous all over the world like the Lascaux cave or the Gouffre de Padirac, and breathtaking landscapes that can be admired from the ramparts of Fort de Gourdon or from a canoe on the river ...

Large holiday home in Gourdon

This is a large property split over several floors with lots of stairs. Would suit a family group well. The pros: Excellent location for accessing the medieval old town of Gourdon with a path up hill through the garden straight to a passage way that leads up into the old town lanes. Delicious plums in the orchard. Good size pool for swimming and playing in. Parking right beside the house. Large lounge area with lots of books and games. Utility room with washing machine etc. The cons: The swimming pool is not actually beside the house but is instead in the garden of the owner's house which means you have to walk a short distance through the owner's garden to the pool. There is a main kitchen on the middle floor and a kitchenette on the ground floor - both are pretty basic. The outside BBQ/Eating area is accessed through one of the ground floor bedrooms or via the front door. It is quite noisy with traffic noise from the nearby roads. The owner lives next door, so you do feel a little under their watch as they go about their day-to-day activities.

Perfect stay

An excellent 3 weeks in a beautiful part of the country. We were greeted by the lovely Karine and given the guided tour, no small matter as the extensive accommodation was spread over 3 floors( I recommend the top floor suite with balcony). Despite visiting in early September we were able to use the excellent pool every day as temperatures ranged from the mid 20s to early 30s. The extensive grounds were perfect for playing with our border collie and one of the outbuildings housed a full sized table tennis table. The property is well placed for trips into the surrounding countryside and yet a few steps through the orchard brought us up onto the main drag of Gourdon, a lovely mediaeval town built into the hillside. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property, it’s 2 kitchens, 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms were far more than we required, however, a larger party could be comfortably accommodated. A repeat booking is a distinct possibility.

Perfect property for families and great location for access to town and surrounding areas

We were a family of 8 with ages from 2 to 89 and we had a fantastic 2 weeks in this perfect property. There is plenty of room over 3 floors for either spending time together or some quiet time alone. The property has great facilities, with the pool and large gardens being of great use in the recent very hot spell. The town was at the end of the garden and gave great opportunity for getting fresh bread everyday within a 5 minute walk away and also access to shops and restaurants. The house is very well equipped with plenty of towels, bed linen, kitchen gadgets and a washing machine if needed. We have a very enjoyable holiday at this house and the location and surrounding areas. We recommend this beautiful property without hesitation.

Wonderful situation and beautiful property

We were delighted to spend a week in this beautiful house. It really combines the best of both worlds, having an interesting town literally at the end of the garden, as well as being on the edge of the magnificent countryside in the other direction. The house is well equipped and we lacked for nothing, having plenty of towels, bed linen, kitchen gadgets, a laundry room and even books to read everywhere! The swimming pool has stupendous views over the countryside in one direction and the church in the other. An added benefit is the privacy of the pool area. We spent happy days mooching around the house and garden, swimming, sunbathing and playing table tennis. On other days we visited the nearby swimming lake, which is picturesque and sociable. The town of Gourdon is really lovely, with lots of bars and restaurants, as well as a Saturday market and occasional night market. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable about the area and can offer lots of advice regarding local events. We recommend this beautiful property without hesitation and wished we had booked a fortnight as there was so much more in the area we didn't have time to discover!

A great week

My husband and I plus 3 friends booked this property for a week. We kept wondering what we had actually booked since we could see the property was so large. Turns out the booking was for the entire thing! We felt quite "to the manor born". Pool, grounds, out buildings, gated property. It was all amazing. The house itself was interesting with two kitchens and some odd placement of bedrooms on the ground floor. We had fun speculating about the original use of all those rooms. We also wondered if there had been someone living in the house full-time before we arrived since it seemed as though we had moved into a person's home rather than a rental house. The house had very much a "lived-in" feel which was both good and bad depending on one's perspective. The location of the house was excellent. A walk up the side path and we were in the town. Two bakeries in easy walking distance. Also the town was interesting for wandering and there were restaurants close by. We rented bikes and did some touring in the area which was a lot of fun. We did note that the town is on a hill. A most definite hill. The weather was marginal during our stay but after one cycle ride, we were sufficient hot to use the pool. It was glorious. The very large grounds could use some intense gardening, but we enjoyed the space all the same. Easy to store our bikes in one of the out buildings and room for numerous limos in the driveway if we had them. Getting in and out of the driveway was a bit exciting because the road is so busy and the visibility is not ideal. Still, it was all very manageable. Our deposit was returned very promptly. Since we were still in France, the deposit was returned via the postal bank. It was incredibly efficient and we thank the wonderful Karine for making this all happen. Also we thank Karine for responding so quickly with a plumber when one of the toilets decided to misbehave. She was great. We would definitely stay here again and would enthusiastically recommend this property to others. We are giving it 4 rather than 5 stars only because it isn't possible to give 4.5 stars. There are a few things that still need work (e.g. the garden, finishing one of the bathrooms) but overall the property is incredible.

Wonderful week

We've spent a wonderful week with our family of 9 in Maison d'Elise. The house and it's premises are absolutely stunning! Located next to the medieval city center of Gourdon, the bakery, bars, restaurants and many other necessities are just outside the beautiful garden. However, the garden is huge, and when you lay at the poolside you won't notice your so close to the town. The house itself is complete with all conveniences, and the kitchen is stuffed with cookware to make anything you like. Comfortable beds and multiple bathrooms are available. Finally, the surrounding area offers nature, medieval towns, vineyards and of course duck. All in all we highly recommend Maison d'Elise and we'd like to thank Mme. Périllat for welcoming us.
