About this property
Gunnison Cottage
Beautiful and cozy. Built in 1939, this home was completely remodeled into elegance in 2018 while keeping the historic feeling with the original floors and clay walls. The upstairs has a queen bed and a full bath with Jacuzzi tub/shower. The main level is an open floor plan for the living/kitchen/dinning. The couch has a queen pull out bed with a memory foam mattress. There is a in floor heat that is on a thermostat for constant comfort in the cooler months, while the thick adobe walls keep the house nice and cool in the summer months. The bedroom on the main level has a queen bed. There is also another full bath on the main level. There is an oversized entryway with washer and dryer. This is very convenient for gear and bags, keeping your living space clutter free. The Cottage is located right off the main road toward Crested Butte, about 2 miles north of Gunnison. It is conveniently located near (walking distance) to one of the main river put ins. Also Walking distance to one of Gunnisons best restaurants, Garlic Mikes, and walking distance to the bus stop that runs between Crested Butte and Gunnison.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cute little place. We had plenty of space and lots of kitchen items to use. Wish we had time to use the outdoor space.
This is by far one of the best places we’ve stayed!! The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked and the house is well maintained. Definitely want to stay here again!!
I brought my parents here so i could show them the gunnison/crested butte area. This was perfectly located for this kind of trip. My parents are already asking to stay here again in the future the next time they come out. The home was clean, beds were comfortable. The patio was perfect for cooking evening dinner and relaxing during the summer evening. Would definetly recommend this stay and will come back in the future.
This was the absolute perfect place for us for a few days. A very well thoughtout cottage that has lots of room and is extremely comfortable. I appreciated the details. Very clean, has all the ammenities one needs. Kitchen is easy to cook in. With my son attending college in Gunnison, I hope to stay here again on future visits. Thanks, Taryn.
We had a great stay at this very excellent property! I’m certain it was easily the cleanest VRBO we’ve ever visited! Well done! Peaceful and serene, close to the highway but completely soundproof.
Our travel goal was to view the changing colors and Crested Butte, Kebler Pass, Lake City and Slumgullion Pass were all amazing! Bonus points for the proximity to Garlic Mike’s and the river. 10/10 recommend!
The house was great. Perfect location to explore Gunnison, Crested Butte, Black Canyon and more. The house has nice amenities and is clean. Patio area with the grill was a nice feature.
Home has all the extras for cooking, laundry and bathrooms. Very clean, comfortable & great ski storage room. Walking distance to Garlic Mikes is a plus!
I stayed here with my Mom and it was perfect. Other places we have stayed in the same area, we’ve had to clean when we checked in before we felt comfortable. This place was amazing and very clean! Owner was great to deal with! We plan to stay here again next year!
Very nice accommodations. Great location. Check in & check out couldn’t have been easier. Easy access to hostess if needed. Remodeled home is perfect combination of old meets new. Pictures on web site are exactly as viewed. I would highly recommend this property.
A great base to explore Gunnison and Crested Butte
The house is nestled among trees just steps from the Gunnison River, and has been thoughtfully updated. It was very comfortable for us traveling with our daughter and baby grandson. We cooked in the fully stocked kitchen, and one night we walked over to Garlic Mike's and sat by the river enjoying delicious Italian food. The only downside was the road noise, which made it hard to sleep with the window open (a necessity in summer(.
If you want an authentic Gunni experience and great value, stay at this place. It’s an older building, but the inside is pretty much like new. Really nicely done and decorated. The loft is basically a master bedroom and absolutely adorable. The place is right on the highway, but honestly even though we’re light sleepers, we didn’t hear road noise at night. We did struggle to get the main floor warm the first morning we were there. But it was an extra cold morning in January. And once we got a space heater plus the gas stove going, we were set. Our kids loved staying here and so did we. Property mangers were really great to work with - friendly, accommodating and responsive.
This place was great for us, my wife and I and 3 teens. It's not far out of town, right off the road, easy to find and get to. The location is along the river in a beautiful spot. I think it would be great in the summer too. The house had everything we needed. The owners, Taryn and Mark were great, helping us with car trouble and moving snow the first morning we were there. Our only issue was setting the temperature. If the downstairs was warm, the upstairs was too hot. If we got the upstairs comfortable, the downstairs was too cold. We probably would have figured it out if we had stayed longer. Us southerners are just used to central heat and air and we don't know how to use other heat sources. But, having said that, we would definately stay here again. In fact, we hope to.
Great little house. Comfy and modern inside, and well stocked.
Perfect 2bd, 2 bath house for a weekend visit to Gunnison. Very short walk to Garlic Mike's Italian restaurant, which was fantastic. House was well stocked with all the essentials; plenty of towels, bathroom toiletries, and a well appointed kitchen. Very comfortable. Would certainly stay here again.
Taryn grew up in the Gunnison Valley, while Mark has been here since graduation from Western in the late 90's. This is our home and we love it. We enjoy all that our area has to offer, from all seasons.
Why they chose this property
We put our hearts, sweat and tears into turning this neglected house into a beautiful home. We both work in the trades and really enjoyed getting to put our skills to use on our own project. It has been a wonderful journey and we would like to share it with others.
