About this property

Chachalaca Villa | Eco Lovers Rain Forest Getaway

Thoughtfully updated 3 bedroom villa perched on Flagstaff hill with stunning views of Man O'War bay. We are located in the rain forest of Eastern Tobago. Perfect for nature lovers and divers. A few minutes drive down to the village leads right to the beach. Updates include new stainless steel appliances, new beds & linens, smart tv, WiFi, Bluetooth speakers, lighting, fixtures, etc. The amenities you’d expect in the city, in the rain forest. However, you’ll find it hard to leave the veranda’s breathtaking views.

We try to keep our villa as eco friendly as possible. We use a cistern system which collects rain water. Filtered water is also available from the refrigerator and is completely safe to drink. Our house keeper uses green cleaning products to maintain the villa. (However, be advised if guests leave any non-green dish soap, for example, she will not throw away)

Our villa is located in the rain forest reserve of Eastern Tobago. To some sleeping in the rain forest is a dream. We sleep with just the veranda screens closed at night so we can hear all the sounds of the rain forest. However, you will see a whole world of nature around you. Many times crickets, beetles, hummingbirds, and lizards like to poke their heads in and say hello especially when you leave veranda doors open during the day, which we all love to do. So if you’re frightened easily, the rain forest might not be for you. But for eco lovers this villa is a dream!

The villa does have A/C units in the lower level bedrooms, but you’ll find with the cool breeze from being perched on our hill that nights can even sometimes get almost chilly. We provide extra blankets as well just in case. Generally rooms are the perfect temperature at night and all bedrooms have new ceiling fans.

For travelers with young children: Be advised that 2 lower level bedrooms are accessible by exterior stairway down to back veranda. This layout can be more challenging for young guests requiring assistance at night. Exterior lights are on a timer and switch on as soon as evening arrives, so property is well lit and comfortable to walk about in the evening.

Paradise

The villa is well laid out and the view of the sea spectacular. Our hosts were very responsive to questions we had and super helpful. We recommend that you buy the fresh fish in town and have Sharon cook you breakfast and give you her coffee and hot chocolate drink at Sharon and Phebs

Incredible Villa with Outstanding Views

My wife and I stayed at Chachalaca Villa for four nights following Carnival '25 and a few nights at Crown Point, Tobago. This place was exactly what we were hoping for: a quiet house situated in a beautiful part of Tobago for a proper cool-down following the chaos of Carnival. The views at the Villa are absolutely stunning; my wife and I spent as much time enjoying the mornings and sunsets on the veranda as we did other parts of Tobago. Our time in Charlotteville simply wouldn't have been what it was if we'd stayed anywhere else - and we definitely hope to stay here again.

Gorgeous views and property

We traveled to Tobago for a scuba diving trip in Speyside, and we stayed at Chacachaca Villa, which was less than 10 minutes ‘up d road’ from the Tobago Dive Experience. For us, the location was perfect. This house is perched on the western facing side of the Flag Staff ridge, which means spectacular sunsets! Surrounded by trees, the owners obviously put a lot of effort in the landscaping. Beyond the garden, WOW! You can sip your morning coffee while parrots, oropendolas, tanagers and other birds fly at eye level, over unbroken forest, with the Caribbean Sea shimmering in the background. It’s a lovely spot, what else can I say.

would have been fine if the wi-fi & TV had not gone out

A tree fell on their cable TV line so we had zero TV or wi-fi & since it rained like crazy, there was nothing to do (like spending time at the beaches). Bring books to read in case that happens to you (the location is scenic & peaceful, but not a lot to do nearby).

Isolated and quiet, except for the Chachalaca!

A great place to lime and veg out for a few days. Very well equipped with new appliances. Only thing missing was a hammock to while away the hours. Your own car is definitely needed, even just to go down to the beach, as you are at an elevation of over 750 feet.

Private paradise

Our stay was better than expected. Private, phenomenal view from the deck, wonderful birding off the deck and in the neighborhood, short ride to Charlotteville or Speyside, comfortable and spacious inside. This was a good base to visit some of the best beaches on Tobago and get to the Main Ridge preserve and Little Tobago. We would stay again if we return.

Wonderful!

We loved staying at the villa! The place is exactly as described. I agree with the owners honest assessment that the villa is not for everyone, as it is not suitable for younger kids. you do need your own transportation and be comfortable with being in a setting away from it all. Having said that we were a family of five with three children over the age of 10 and we absolutely loved our stay there!

Outstanding!

This villa is absolutely wonderful! It is spacious and has all the comforts of home in the rainforest: filtered water from the refrigerator, coffee maker, Bluetooth sound bar, Roku tv, and the view is spectacular! The villa is perched on a mountain overlooking a bay on one side and the rainforest on the other. You wake up to birds chirping in the trees - we saw parrots, hummingbirds, and indigenous others - birders will be thrilled. The house is cooled with gentle breezes, the deck is warm, and did I mention the view?! The drive from the airport consists of very twisty turns that can cause anxiety, but after a bit, you get more comfortable. Charlottesville is a fishing village that has a lot of character. We especially loved Pirate Bay where we snorkeled and saw some fish. We visited Argyle Falls and the Tobago Cocoa Estate; but truly the best part was at the villa cooking , eating, playing games, watching tv, listening to music and enjoying the view and wildlife. We hope to one day return. Rhonda and Nawaz were wonderful hosts - quick to answer every question (and I had many!). Their home has everything that you need including information on the area about things to do. The photos portray this home to a tee - no surprises except that you cannot believe it is as beautiful as it appears to be. Thank you Rhonda and Nawaz for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Nawaz is originally from Trinidad . Rhonda is a designer from New York, which is where they met, and currently reside.

Chachalaca Villa is our first home together and we've put our hearts into restoring and updating our little rainforest getaway. We hope to share our home with others, until we can hopefully leave the hustle of New York City and call Chachalaca Villa our home!!

Why they chose this property

The moment we stepped into this house we immediately felt a connection. Places tend to look better in photos, but this house was even more beautiful in person. The second we walked out onto the back veranda we knew we wanted to call it home. The view of Man O War Bay is stunning and a perfect back drop for outdoor dining or entertaining.
