This was a nice place to stay. I would recommend more lighting through the entrance and definitely, most certainly need a better address sign. Our GPS stated we were there but there was no sign in the street area or drive way to alert there is a property back there. In fact, if you turn too soon where the GPS states you are there you may wind up in a ditch These are hidden driveways, but there can still be a more visible sign to alert guest where to make the turn into the property. I encourage people to buy water case as the water is oily and it seems to be a thing in NOLA. The property is in good shape but, at night significantly dark. The location was near most stores and restaurant and close to the highway once you know your way around. It had a Victorian feel and it was definitely quaint and comfortable.
The bayou and home are beautiful. I waited a bit to leave this review because I wanted to give the host some grace to communicate with us about some situations that needed to be addressed. Before arrival he mentioned he was in hospital and apologized for his late response to questions. When we arrived there were problems with kayaks, bikes, and fireplace - to name a few. We reached out and never heard from him. I’ve reached out again and have still never heard from him. Our group left the place genuinely worried for him. I hope he is ok.
My son and I booked a trip with this house specifically as a homebase for several days of fishing in the bayou’s. This house was chosen specifically for having an outdoor grill and bike availability and trail access. The grill was there but I poor shape and no gas tank. There were two bike one with a completely broken sprocket and the other in poor shape. I contacted the host by phone four times leaving messages as well using the VRBO messaging system on the app. The host never responded and still hast 8 days after the trip. The house is unique but not tended to clearly. Roaches were present when the light went out but that was not that alarming given the age and location of the house. I feel I should be returned at least half of my money given how poorly I was treated as a “guest”. This will be a good case study for the premium I pay each time I use VRBO.
we were staying at the property as my family lives in Slidell and I was visiting from Wisconsin. I grew up in New Orleans, but I’ve been gone 30 years. It was nice to be able to be so close to their homes.
The character of the home was outstanding. We really wanted to know a little bit more of the history of the home. To be honest, my only complaint would be the washer and dryer. I believe the washer is broken or the timing is off because it would literally go through two cycles, and we would try to put it on the setting possible. The dryer took forever to dry the clothes but we made due.
It was worth it to our family to stay in this beautiful house.

New Years Get Away
for the most part all good, house needs pictures updated and back of the house needs more illumination on the rear part and thru-out the property and certainly check on the roaches a few here and there over all a nice cozy place and good location.
This is absolutely my favorite rental I have stayed at. The inside is so charming and full of antiques. It was so warm and cozy. I can’t say enough about how amazing the beds are as well. I am extremely particular regarding mattresses, and I actually checked to see if I could find the name of the mattress company so I can buy for my house. I think they’re memory foam?
My favorite part of the house has to be the sunroom. Sitting on a clean, comfortable couch couch and enjoying the scenery in a air condition some room was worth it’s weight in gold. I spent most of my time out there reading and enjoying the scenery. Also having a TV out there for movie night was simply the best. I will come back specifically for that sunroom. I wish I could take it home with me. Haha.
One more of the many reasons why I loved this rental so much, was the bayou proximity and the kayaks. We were right on the bayou and could just load the provided kayaks right into the water from the backyard. Talk about amazing! We floated down the river with clover like moss floating on top of the river. It was straight out of a movie. We went kayaking every single day. The views were spectacular and I can’t say enough about how much I loved it.
I am definitely going to return again. I highly recommend this place. :)
I am handicapped and walk with a cane. The walk to and from the car was dangerous for me, and we would not have booked this house if we had known this. And if the yard was so important, the grass might have been cut and there would not have been miscellaneous junk in the yard, including the deplorable outdoor furniture. The furnishings were worn out. The sofa had a hole in it, and the chairs were so old that we practically sat on the ground. But these were just the tip of the iceberg. The house was infested with roaches, the stove was broken, the washer and dryer were inaccessible to me with my disability, and the bayou was not “beautiful”—I couldn’t even tell if it was water as it was a carpet of green moss. Dangerous for my grandchildren. It was most definitely not worth the price that was charged.
Amazingly quiet yet just minutes from WalMart and restaurants. Relaxing walks along Tammany Trace. Beautiful glass walls in sunroom allowed nature viewing with indoor comfort. Owner was quick to respond to our needs.
The house and grounds were beautiful! We enjoyed our stay….biking, kayaking, fishing, and sleeping in comfortable beds!

Old with a dash of new
Plenty of property for adventure , old and comfortable like an antique rocking chair yet you could hit a golf ball from countless stores and restaurants and land in the gravel drive
Good beds and great view of the bayou
Some negatives but satisfied all the needs of resting our heads and chilling out
First time in Louisiana for our nephews wedding. Nice size beautiful historic home. Slept amazing! Perfect house as a base of operation to explore Louisiana.
A warm and cozy home steeped in nostalgic decor. The outdoor space was perfect for our family to enjoy fishing, kayaking and biking. The old pipes were a bit worrisome, and the old cooktop made cooking for our large group a challenge. Otherwise, it was a great experience.
A relaxing week while feeling a sense of history surrounding this property and area.
The deco was a little period and very comfortable. We enjoyed the river and the freedom to wander around the property...the only 3 suggestions would be to make certain the doors can be opened toward the river...and maybe add a deadbolt on the front door. ..and replace the flat tires on the wagon to tote items to the beautiful home.
This was an older home so it had some quirks but over all we really enjoyed our stay and plan to rent again next time we're in the area.
I advise you to bring plug in fans if you require air circulation.
SAFTEY ISSUES!!
-Dead battery in smoke detector.
-Carpet in living room taped down & peeling up. Fall/trip hazard
-Stove top was labeled with stickers: "BURNERS REMAIN ON"
-Electrical lighting was confusing…certain room lights had to be on before other room light could be used.
-Electrical outlets were through extension cords with notes “DO NOT UNPLUG”
-Front door did not lock
-The back door had a big gap for mosquito and roach entrance
-ROACH INFESTED! On walls, floors, paper towels and BED!
-Boat dock is falling apart
-Clothes dryer-no heat
UNAPPEALING:
-Had to park outside the gate and use the wagon to haul luggage
-Wagon had 4 FLAT TIRES!
-3 large garbage cans at entrance were over-flowing
-Broken soap dispenser in bathrooms
-The side-entry screen door had NO SCREEN!
-Outdoor furniture cushions were scattered and unkept
-Stained pillows
-Toilet handle labeled, “Hold down until completely flushed”
The house looked better in person so to speak. The beds were comfy . Lots of space for kids to roam. Lots of bunnies to watch and other wildlife. The distance from car to house to hall everything in was to far with a small wagon with flat tires. Overall the house was great. Thank you for sharing your home.

Great stay but info you should know
Pros: Great location to shopping strip center and food. Home and property are very charming. The bedrooms are located on the 4 corners of the house for complete privacy.
The living area is large with great seating for a large party. There is a nice new sofa and 2 chairs (other than those pictured) by the fireplace. The bedrooms have updated bedding with white comforters. 3 of the bedrooms have TV’s. The kitchen has newer stainless steel appliances with the exception of the stove top. There is a new kitchen table that seats 4. The sunroom has a table that seats 6 along with a sofa and chair and TV. This room has floor to ceiling windows that overlook the water and backyard which is beautiful. The washer and dryer are located in a room that connects to the garage. There are 2 bicycles and several kayaks provided. The walking/bike trail is very close which is wonderful. The owner does provide his phone number for contact if you should need it.
Cons: There is no bedroom with 2 queen beds - in our opinion, this home only sleeps 8 unless you put 2 people on sofas that are not pullouts. One king bedroom has no closet but a dresser is provided. There is no direct access to the master bath from the master bedroom however, the queen room on that side does have direct access. The stovetop in the kitchen is in need of replacement-some burners don’t work or work properly. There is a large crack in one of the windows in the sunroom that has been secured with 2x4’s. The dock/boat lift is unusable - looks like it sustained storm damage. There is traffic noise inside and outside of the home.
All in all we had a nice stay.

About the host
Hosted by David Whyte
My name is David, I purchased this property in 2018 with my husband Christopher. We made this purchase because we fell in love with the home and the property and wanted to share it with other people. I was born in New Orleans and Christopher was born in Albuquerque. We have lived in New Orleans for the last 15 years. I am a local real estate agent in the area. Real estate is my entire life. I love all aspects of it. In my free time I love traveling, staying fit, collecting art, and spending as much time with family, friends and our dogs as much as possible.
Why they chose this property
The great thing about this property is, it's just minutes from everything in Slidell, however it's private and secluded. The grounds are stunning, it's waterfront and it honestly feels like you've gone a century back in time the minute you enter the grounds, however you have all of the modern conveniences.
