About this property

Stunning, Secluded Log Home Surrounded by Woods and Water

Escape to Bryant's Brook, a beautiful, unique cabin that's surrounded by woods and completely secluded from all neighbors but easy to access all year round. Having always taken weeks and weekends as bookings, we’re now also considering longer-term renters, for the ski season, all summer, or the whole year. We offer a discount for longer rentals. Regardless of how long you stay you’ll love the place.

Lovingly built with pegged, hand-hewn barn beams, rough-cut logs and wide-plank floors cut from the surrounding pine-covered mountains, this unique home is both rustic and utterly comfortable. Fully furnished with beautiful local antiques, two woodstoves, and an artesian well, but with a modern kitchen, and digitally monitored central heat, it's the perfect escape from the city for a couple, a big family or a group of friends.

The three main bedrooms are up a spiral staircase, but if someone has trouble with stairs there is a sunroom with its own woodstove off the kitchen that can be used as a bedroom. Two bedrooms upstairs have double beds, and the third has two single beds and child's bed. The spacious living room has a hide-a-bed sofa and a woodstove that opens to function as a fireplace, a fieldstone hearth, and a picture window looking onto the pond. The french doors open onto one of the two back sun decks.

Off the kitchen is a spacious covered front porch with a gas grill. There is also a campfire up in the woods, by the stone fence, with a large serving table, grill for the fire, plenty of wood and kindling, and lots of seating.

Surrounded by protected woods on all sides, the property includes an apple orchard for you to pick apples, an organic garden with vegetables, berries, and herbs you can help yourself to with consideration. Our pond is off the living room, fed by the spring that winds though the 2.5 acres of landscaped lawn and gardens. Please respect the line between our property and our neighbor's - the pond up the hill is theirs, and the line between our properties is marked.

This is kid paradise! There is a toddler bed, pack and play, potty, safety gate, and a high chair... There are toys and games our kids are happy to share (with care, please!) Well-behaved dogs are welcome, there is a dog bed, and dogs can run off-leash, we're surrounded by a beautiful old stone wall, woods, and a stream. Please keep them off the neighbor's land, there isn't a dog-proof fence dividing the two properties.

Please don't smoke inside.

Our home is on its own, we have one neighbor up the hill through the trees, please don't stop on their driveway, the bridge or their land. We are about three miles from the picturesque village of Andes, which offers terrific antique shops and boutiques, its own museum, several galleries, outstanding restaurants, and live music.

In the winter, if you want to ski, it's only 20 minutes from Belleayre ski area, 30 from Plattekill, and 1 hour from Hunter. Also, it's one hour and fifteen minutes from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, 40 minutes from Woodstock and New York City is a 2.5 hour drive.

Our preference is rentals for all or part of the year. In June, July and August, we give preference to weeklong rentals, from Friday to Friday, and we only take shorter bookings two weeks in advance.

There is a $150 cleaning fee regardless of group size. It's charged with the rental fee.

Charming little getaway spot that's not too far off the beaten path

The highlight of this property is its stunning exterior, resembling a mini botanical garden with blooming hydrangeas, water features, and wildflowers. I picked some apples from the trees (though I wasn't sure if they were ripe), and my dogs enjoyed them. As a newcomer to short-term rentals, I was unsure about using the provided supplies, but was grateful for the dog shampoo after one of my dogs took a dip in the pond. The weather was rainy and overcast, making some areas of the property swampy. Despite the peacefulness, occasional car noise and construction sounds were noticeable. Inside, the house has a rustic feel with many windows and doors letting in natural light. However, figuring out the lighting was tricky, and the projector in the living room wasn’t usable during the day due to brightness. At 6'3", I found the space challenging, with low doorways and a spiral staircase. The beds were small for my height, but I slept well after tiring days. The motion-sensor floodlights were overly sensitive, turning on and off all night, and I heard some scampering that I hope was outside. Overall, it was a pleasant getaway, but I’d recommend adding a water softener and a Wi-Fi extender for a more comfortable experience.

Wanted to like this, but just couldn’t.

Pros: Quirky old log cabin- some sweet antique furniture & creative touches. Beautiful setting, deer, birds, flowers to cut for bouquets. Nice eating table for meals & board games. Pleasant living rm. Owner pleasant when we interacted. Cons-FAR outweighed the pros —Bugs and mouse turds. Ants walking over us in bed, in living room, & on kitchen counters. Live bugs in dishware (needed to wash all before using). Mouse turds on kitchen counter & WORST, mouse turds between sheets &mattress pad in primary bedroom when we stripped bed. —Kitchen drawers & cabinets felt dirty. Lovely old china, but cracked & chipped. —very narrow spiral staircase w head-smacking ceiling for all but our 8-yr-old. —hinges for basement trap door in traffic pattern from kitchen stick up so high that one person fell hard stepping on one. Had to put a thick rug over them to prevent future falls. -Not for the even-slightly mobility challenged. Steps to & from many rooms, & many are uneven treads & depths. —Pond completely brackish-not for swimming or wading. —Only 3 windows with intact screens to open. Front screen door had hole so big I stitched paper towels on it-too hot to keep it closed evenings. Liv room screen door had big hole but was unusable anyway bc doorknob on exterior door didn’t work. We’re fine w plain, not fancy places, but not w dirty & shabby-left 2 days early bc this was unpleasant. We do NOT recommend without a lot of fixup & cleaning. Could be a lovely place with some thought & work.

10 days in Andes, NY

The house itself was the highlight of the stay. A charming mountain cabin lovingly built from old timbers and furnished with antiques. The setting is beautiful, with a lovely pond and babbling brook. Too bad it is so close to the main road. The bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen are lovely and well equipped. Sitting rooms and gathering nooks everywhere furnished for beauty and comfort, Many lovely toys and games for children of all ages. Then, of course, there are the Catskill Mountains all around.

Rustic and cozy cabin

The cabin is nice and although the weather was not great for an April get away we enjoyed our stay. The cabin was as described, rustic but big enough for our family of 5 adults and 2 children. The property is nice but close to Route 28, you can hear and see the traffic from the house. I was a little disappointed with the level of cleanliness and be prepared to carry out your garbage and recycling home with you.Tim was responsive every time I messaged him, luckily we didn’t need to contact him during our stay but he was accommodating to let us check in before the normal time since there was a snowstorm advisory for the area on the day we were checking in. We stayed warm by the wood burning stove and we were provided with enough firewood. The area is nice and has interesting chops in the neighboring towns and good hikes as well as the east branch of the Delaware river for fishing in good weather or skiing, snow tubbing in the winter months.

our holiday at log home in Andes

Had a very disappointing start in this house. - No cleaning after the previous guests!! Our host had mistaken the date of our arrival! It meant that we, on the first evening of arrival, had to spend some of our precious holiday time cleaning a filthy fridge, changing dirty bed sheets, emptying the dishwasher and - of course - spending time searching for the things we needed for all this!! It did not exactly feel welcoming!! However, things got settled after having had an ok dialogue with our host. So, despite an unsatisfactory start we did eventually come to enjoy staying in the charming old house. The outdoor surroundings were terrific, and we enjoyed the rich bird life right outside the windows/house, and as well we had great fun studying all the toads in the pond. Quack, quack!! As for the kitchen area we would like to pass on a comment: we did find it quite messy. It wasn't easy to find basic things such as bin bags, dishcloths, tea towels and some of the kitchen equipment.

nice place, bad owner

The property was nice. Landscape also beautiful. It was impossible to communicate with the owner. I sent him an email two weeks before our arrival with questions regarding the house and the area since we were traveling with two 18 months old. Never got an answer. I texted him a few days before our arrival, no answer as well. Additionally the house wasn’t properly cleaned. I took some images of dirt under the beds, empty glass bottles and other stuff that we found. The kitchen shelves and fridge were full of expired stuff, such as flour, sauces and so on. Therefore we could not use any of it although in the instruction it was written to replace them in case we finished something. On top of this there was a power outage and we did not have power for 6 or 7 hours, something that is very common up there we were told. This is a piece of information that you want to give your guests especially if they are traveling with babies. Since he did not reply to any of my attempts to contact him, we did not have any chance to gain any additional information about the house or the area that could have been useful for our stay, except for the ones we had from the vrbo property check-in/out instructions. Be open to communciate with your guests is crucial if you rent your property!!!!!!!!!!

Relaxing Week

My husband and I had a good week. Our two dogs loved, running around the property off leash chasing the frogs. The spiral staircase was a little much for us? Our 2 small Dogs were scared to try to climb them so we had to carry them up every night which is a pain but we made it work. it rained a few days and with the rain came flooded yards and the stream rose and soaked parts of the yard as well which made it a little difficult to play in the yard with the dogs, or hangout at the fire pit but you can’t control the weather. Overall, we had a relaxing week

Perfect family vacation!

We loved everything about our time in Andes! The house was charming and the property was stunning! If we didn’t have to eat and didn’t want to take advantage of the local hikes, we would not have left the property all week. My husband and dog LOVED playing together at the pond closest to the house. The dog had the best vacation ever. I adored the cozy sun porch and reading while watching my daughter play in the creek. My 17 year old son was thankful for the reliable WiFi :). We watched movies on the projector in the evening and the French press made fantastic coffee in the morning. The only things to note is that the spiral staircase is steep and narrow. Our dog (8 years old, 50 pounds) could not manage it. And bring slippers! Thank you Tim for sharing your house with us! Our pup “hunting” frogs at the ponds will remain a cherished family memory. It was an incredible family vacation!

peaceful getaway

mostly tranquil, but not too remote. beautiful landscape and wonderful property, relaxing, also pretty accoutrement and trinkets. charming cabin! but also aging and/or delicate (e.g. drawers, cabinets, windows, other fixtures in need of fixing or updating). Lack of a couple essentials and not easy to find everything (e.g. in kitchen), nice-looking China looked like it shouldn't be used but couldn't find other dishes. Good but not great amenities. If we were there in the winter I'm sure it'd be fun to use the stoves, which I think the not-wet and cut firewood is designated for, not the fire pit. entertainment system was a bit tricky, but communication was great via phone and issues resolved. nothing in garden or orchard in harvest season I guess bc only maybe found a couple crab apples near the large shed. The pond looked way too swampy for swimming; I suppose if you're really hot from a hike you could splash around in the creek. Overgrowth on deck stairway made it impassable comfortably. Verbose, perhaps too much so, instructions included for various things. All in all pretty nice! although things like the belongings and slight clutter can make it feel a bit like you're intruding in someone else's place/space.

Andes getaway

Me and my fiancé and pup Jax really enjoyed staying at this cabin and it was our 2nd year in a row coming up to stay near Andes. I was looking for a place that would allow my dog and this fit the bill perfect. It’s a rustic cabin filled with antique pieces throughout the home. It’s a true cabin with all of the basics you need to enjoy the area. It sits on a really nice piece of property and is right off the major roadway but tucked in all on its own to give you all the privacy and seclusion you could want. It’s a short drive to Andes or margretville to access things and we took the 30min trip to Plattekill mountain to go tubing for a couple hours. For me and my fiancé it provided all we needed and Tim the owner was easy to reach and provided all the info needed.

little taste heaven

the house was great. It started snowing when we got there snd continued the whole 4 days. it was beautiful peaceful snd serene. we felt as if we were in s christmas card.i read reviews about stairs being hard to maneuver and beds being hard. i found neither to be a problem and I am sixty and my husband 64. we were there with my daughter and her fiance who are 20. They had a blast also. were not bored at all. Had some really fantastic family time in a beyond beautiful setting. I would so definitely stay there again. The towns are quaint and very close anything we need is there. The house is very well supplied. The fireplaces were lovely and cozy and warm. It was just breathtaking. If I had to find one and only one complaint it isn’t with the house or the host itself. It is the problem with having garbage removal. I did know ahead of time That we would be responsible for taking care of our own trash. Which wouldn’t be a big deal if the dump was open more than twice a week. We were there for four days so obviously the next day we were there we wouldn’t have accumulated any trash and Had no need to go to the dump to get rid of it. But four days later we did and it wasn’t opened. So our only resource was to drive home for hours with a bag of garbage that four people accumulated in a four day period. Somehow there’s just got to be some other way to deal with that. But having said that I would love to go there again and again and again. You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect Long Weekend Getaway!

Groovy place! Rustic but comfortable, especially in cool weather with the two wood stoves burning! Well furnished, stocked with lots of books & games and beautiful grounds. We were there to hang out & relax with family after two years unable to get together (stupid COVID...). Had a couple very nice hikes at Palmer Hill and Andes Rail Trail & Bullet Hole Spur. Beautiful country even after the leaves had fallen. Also, the little store in Andes is so cool! A memory that will stick from our weekend is when my niece came down in the morning and said that the feel of the wood heat reminded her of grandma’s home. Grandma was my mom who died 19 years ago and she tended our fireplace & wood stoves with love. Please excuse the sentimental nostalgia but thank you very much Tim! :)

We loved it!

We loved staying here. It was very cold the first night, but we arrived very late and just went to bed. We also misread the instructions - we thought it said 3 miles instead of 0.3 miles past the mailboxes and with no cell service it was hard. Definitely print out the instructions or take screen shots. By the next morning we figured out the wood burning stoves and it really did make everything, including upstairs, very toasty. I recommend arriving during day light. Our dog loved the freedom of running around off leash. There were puzzles and games. We had a lot of fun and nice family time with our teenagers. So relaxing.

Incredibly beautiful setting. Don’t go there if you have mobility issues.

This property is STUNNING. The family that set up this vacation spot must be the most magical group of people. The decor is GORGEOUS, the house is huge, the treehouse is adorable, the hydrangeas are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, the frogs are even cuter than frogs in less idyllic environs. I want to be best friends with these people. However. I do have a word of caution: the only way to access all of the bedrooms is a very narrow, very tight spiral staircase. I had to go up sideways, and slowly. The beds are ancient, squeaky, and rock hard. I left feeling like one big bruise. Do not bring your grandmother to this house. Just don’t do it. I fully felt like my grandmother after the first night. The lights are a Rube Goldberg machine of the most intricate variety. But once you figure out how to turn them on, the atmosphere in the house is unbeatable. If I was 21 and fit I would rent this house every summer for as long as I could. As it stands I might need to seek less beautiful bit more comfortable arrangements. This place has real magic and I am so glad I went there. Just bring comfy things. Bring a fan or two. Maybe some camping lanterns, and plenty of bug spray. It’s magnificent! I’m just very sore.

It's a charming, rustic house filled with all the amenities that you need (well-stocked kitchen, projector and screen, games, books), situated on a beautiful property. Nice cabin for a weekend get away

This was our first trip to the Catskills and we enjoyed and we really enjoyed it. The cabin was very comfortable but rustic (which we were looking for). We really enjoyed spending time in the den around the wood burning stove. It’s a great space with beautiful windows. The cabin is decorated with lots of eclectic pieces and art. It felt very homey. The house has a stream in the backyard and larger one in the front yard. The stream and an embankment separates property from the road which made me feel better letting the dogs run of leash. It’s a short drive to Andes. We had a nice lunch there and enjoyed browsing in the shops. There’s nice hikes close by too. We even got to visit the Margaretville Hospital after a clumpy incident on a trail! Glad it was close and we got in and out quick. The spiral stairs in the cabin are VERY tight. Much more so than any others I’ve seen. It made carrying bags up and down a bit of a challenge and dogs couldn’t get up at all. We would definitely come back again!

About the host

Hosted by Tim Gilman-Sevcik

Host profile image
I'm from Colorado, so I didn't think I'd ever fall in love with the mountains on the East Coast, until we discovered Andes. The area is just beautiful, with steep mountain hiking trails, great fishing and water sports, picturesque towns and irresistible antique shops everywhere. We had to relocate to Europe so we can't use the place ourselves but we can't let if go. We loved coming up here all year round, for summer hikes, winter skiing and skating, and just relaxing in the house and the gardens.

Why they chose this property

The house is a dream come true - every time we arrives from the city we were amazed at the beauty of the materials and the craftsmanship that went into creating the house and the gardens. The kids and the dogs love being outside all day, swimming, eating apples, playing in the tree house. It's so close to the city and a world away.

What makes this property unique

Because we're surrounded by protected forests the house feels very secluded, without being difficult to reach, we have just one neighbor, but you can't even see his house, so it's very private. The gardens are always producing apples, raspberries, tomatoes and pumpkins that practically grow by themselves - there's so much water because of the spring-fed ponds and the brook by the house. It's an entirely unique property, unlike any other you're likely to find, built out of reclaimed barn materials and cleverly reused artifacts, including an old gravestone as a step.
