About this property

Most Romantic Spot Ever - Beach Hideaway Steps from the Beach

Designed by famed waterfront architect Robert Maloney, the Beach Hideaway will take your breath away. With its two bedrooms, 2.5 baths, gourmet kitchen, 42' Plasma HDTV and surround sound in the living room, massive river rock fireplace, decks to the water, and private hot tub, this bungalow sits on a private sandspit and has more charm and amenities than any waterfront getaway anywhere in Puget Sound. Once you arrive, you won’t want to leave-it’s amazing (just read some of the reviews, many from honeymooners).

Set on a private spit of land in Puget Sound, this wood beamed cottage was originally built in the 1950s (when you could still build right on the beach). It is so remote that you have to use a four wheel drive Kawasaki Mule to even get to it. But don’t worry, it’s the Lexus of its class with comfortable, covered seating for four, plus plenty of luggage space.

Everywhere, we strive to keep the best of the old, while incorporating the finest in modern touches and charm to make your stay nothing short of wondrous. We’ve even incorporated what the beach has given us for décor: driftwood retainer wall in the courtyards, and an old, long forgotten, abandoned beach beam from some far away land as our mantle.

You have your own private beach with driftwood, clams, mussels, oysters, and so much to explore, as there are no other homes adjacent in either direction. The state of the art hot tub, away from prying eyes, where the ladies might relax with their wine, while the guys take a boat for fishing with a beer. Or maybe you’ll all venture out in kayaks we can arrange for you.

Inside, you’ll find that the best of the old beach cabin with its old growth beams have been painstakingly preserved to former richness by Ron Milne, Master Refinisher. They are enhanced with rich slate, nails head flooring, warm wall treatment, and designer lighting to set the mood to make those special moments.

The furnishings, like all of Whidbey Retreats (WR) properties, is the finest. What a great place to watch the theatre level satellite cinema system, or to just curl up with the stereo surround, toes tucked under one of our oversized throws, while enjoying the flames of the river rock fireplace. Or listen to nothing more than the lapping waves that will do their best to still and comfort your soul. And, the only sounds you will hear will not be people, but the bald eagles that live in high aeries above along the shore; their cries that pierce the air are so distinctive. (Be sure to bring your camera, especially to capture the mottled brown of the young eagles less than three years old.)

Also, like the other WR properties, the house is a veritable art gallery, with each key painting set with museum lighting. These are some of the finest from the owner’s private collection of over 300 pieces, and are meant to evoke a sense of romance and sensuality.

The kitchen is a gourmet chefs dream-you’ll want to go home and redo your own, except that you won’t likely have a setting like this where you are viewing the ocean only feet from the kitchen window. It has every amenity with slate counters, stainless appliances, and all the utensils you will need to make those special meals for your special getaway. There’s even a serving bar. It’s set up with a couple of eating stools for the quick meal or to perfectly present the cocktail hour martinis (Bombay Sapphire straight, very dry, with two olives for us)!.

At night the dining table sits surrounded by glass with a beautiful chandelier, which you may want to dim to see the lights of the boats on the ocean. Of course, there is both formal outdoor dining, or our favorite is to be casual with the table side luxury chaise lounge chairs. Of course, there is a professional BBQ at your disposal. Or the unprofessional BBQ in the form of your own beach fire pit where you roast hot dogs and have smores on the beach. Yum!

This is a beautiful property. If you are concerned about access and using the ATV, don't be, it's super easy. The property is immaculate and very well maintained. We loved our stay and will be back. Great place!

Peaceful, beautiful retreat

The property lived up to the high expectations we already had based on the pictures. The views from the house are absolutely stunning and the location is quiet and peaceful. We watched seals from the dining room table drinking coffee and relaxing. It was the perfect couple's getaway and we enjoyed our time in this space immensely.

Beyond Expectations

This house is amazing! It was spotless, well stocked, updated, private, and luxurious. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this property. The pictures do not do it justice. The views and seclusion were incredible. I hope to go back here again and again. Thanks Gina!

Second stay - so much wildlife!

Our second stay here and it was just as amazing as the first earlier this year! Used the kayaks which was a blast. Saw so much wildlife, including a northern elephant seal and a family of deer who hung around during our whole stay! Can’t wait to return to make more memories! Thank you for sharing this wonderful retreat!

Beautiful older cabin on the water

The cabin was perfectly laid out for two couples each with their own private bedroom and bathroom. The view from the cabin and deck is incredible. We saw lots of wildlife including deer, eagles, cranes and seals. Being down at the waters edge it’s very quiet and private. The king bed has a comfortable memory foam mattress. We would love to stay here again during our next trip to Whidbey Island.

Perfect Girls Weekend

My sisters/SILs and our moms stayed at the Beach Hideaway for a girls weekend. Everything was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed a glass of wine by the hot tub in the evenings, and breakfast by the beach in the mornings. We even spotted a golden eagle - amazing! We will definitely be coming to stay at the beach hideaway again.

Gorgeous weekend on the water

We loved it all--the wide-open view of the Sound, the gulls cracking clams on the beach, the eagle that ate breakfast right in front of us, and the family of deer that passed through each morning. The boys kayaked and built forts out of driftwood, and we all enjoyed the hot tub. We're already planning a return trip!

Wonderful stay!

Out family of four had a wonderful weekend here. The views are access to the beach could not be better. The kids had fun flying kites, hunting for beach treasures and watching the deer, seals and eagles while the parents relaxed right next to all the action in the hot tub. The house had comfortable beds and furnishings, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. We will be back!

Nothing short of amazing

What a gem this place is. Very unique. You are steps away from the water. You feel secluded. The amount of privacy was wonderful. The hot tub is spectacular. Right on the front deck, with a beautiful view of the water, and no roof, so you can star gaze as well. We were impressed with the little stuff too, like nice dishes/silverware and pretty decorations. No Ikea feel here. Only small criticism would be the placing of the TV. It's above the fireplace and then some. It needs to be moved lower down. It's difficult to watch TV without getting a crick in your neck. We only watched football for a bit, most of our time was spent outdoors or watching the outdoors. On our last day we had seals, eagles, dolphins and innumerable birds. Just stunning. We'd return in a heartbeat.

Majestic cottage on the sea

We have traveled around the world and this will be one of our favorite places and fondest memories. The beach is perfect for agate hunting and the wildlife is abundant. We plan to visit again. The one thing we wish we new before we had booked is that fireworks were not allowed on the property and in Freeland you can only discharge fireworks from your own property. Thank you for the memories we can't wait to come back and would highly recommend this home to anyone.

We had everything we dreamed of in a relaxing vacation

This is a nicely furnished home, intimate yet spacious that would generously fit two couples or a family of four. It is located right on the beach with lots of possibilities for outdoors activities, such as swimming, jacuzzi tub, bonfire,BBQ or just relaxing. one thing to consider is that the driveway to the house is not suitable to regular cars so we had to use a mule car, which is provided by the rental management company. That wasn't a problem for us but if you are planning to bring a boat with you you should be aware of that. We enjoyed the stay very much, it was relaxing and beautiful, very comfortable and inviting.

Best place for an escape

I don't really have words to describe how relaxing and wonderful this hideaway is. This was not our first time here nor will it be our last. We are already trying to figure out our next stay. I almost hesitate to write this review as I would love nothing more than to have this place all to ourselves... The views are wonderful. The sounds are so great. The house, itself, is fantastic. Highly recommended for a couple that wants to get away... We WILL be back - again.
