This place is absolutely gorgeous! This home is very well maintained, absolutely clean and tidy and looks exactly like in the pictures. It is even bigger than expected and we definitely felt like home. Our hosts always made sure there was nothing missing. The house is situated in a quiet, nice neighborhood with great access to the interstate as well as every other place in the city including some great restaurants and shops just in walking distance. This house was the best experience we ever had when staying in the city during the past years! We can highly recomment it! Monte and Jan, thank you once more for this wonderful time! We're looking forward to seeing you again soon!!!
When I arrived the owner was quick to contact me and walk me through the house over the phone. He was very accommodating, wanting to make our stay the best it could possibly be.The house is very well kept up. It was clean. The owner obviously takes very good care for the property. The neighborhood, though older, feels safe. I think many investors and owners in the area see the potential for this neighborhood and are actively seeking to fix up these older homes so that they could be enjoyed for many years to come. Thanks for the pleasant stay.
This home looks exactly like the pictures. It is bigger than expected and was the best experience and place we have stayed in the city. Monte made sure we had everything we needed and the home is obviously well maintained. Plenty of food options and grocery stores in the neighborhood and some cool restaurants to walk to for brunch or a quick bite. We will definitely be back.
Monte and Jan could not have made things easier. This house is cozy and has plenty of space. In a neighborhood easily walkable to entertainment. Highly recommend!
The location was close to many attractions and the stadium. The house was as advertised and worked well for our small group. I would highly recommend this property.
We enjoyed this unique home and the surrounding neighborhood. We had everything we needed and more in the perfect location with a short walk to Plaza Ave. We can’t wait to come back again!
We loved our stay. The property was comfortable. The location was a quiet neighborhood with easy access to everywhere. Our host were very friendly and helpful. Will not hesitate to book again.
Very comfortable home. Great location, with driveway parking and eating establishments nearby. Very little outside noise. Host has excellent communication. Would definitely recommend.
I was drawn to this home because I love all things vintage, and because it’s located near the fairgrounds where my family had an event to attend. The house is beautiful and well maintained, and has everything you need from kitchen supplies to extra toiletries in the bathroom. The neighborhood feels safe and quiet. Monte was very communicative and helpful; he even gave me tips for driving around the area. If you enjoy wine, the hosts provide a complimentary bottle. There is a Walmart Neighborhood Market nearby, and it’s just a short drive to the Penn Square mall. My family greatly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
Everything about our stay was great! The house is lovely. Beautifully decorated. Located in a very nice neighborhood. It is completely furnished with with anything you might need. Communication with Jan and Monte was great. If you're headed to OKC I HIGHLY recommend booking a stay at Jan and Monte's house!
My son and I stayed at this home in historic Gatewood Sept 27-30th. Our stay was out of necessity instead of pleasure, as we needed to be close to the OU medical center, but we found it to be very comfortable and enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed how quiet the back bedroom was because I could go to bed and sleep while my son stayed up and played video games in the tv room. The neighborhood is adorable, in a great location, and we felt very safe. I’m sure most people don’t cook much in vacation rentals, but I did cook some and found everything I needed except a cutting board. We appreciated the bottled water and Keurig cups provided for the coffee machine.
Monte responded within minutes to all of my texts and was extremely helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
Charming vintage house with all the amenities. Quiet and safe neighborhood. We were in town for work and it was a close and convenient drive to the OKC fairgrounds.
This quaint home has been equipped with everything you can possibly need and many extras. It was immaculate; the beds are comfortable, the kitchen was great, the water is hot. Monte was wonderful- we had to call him and he was efficient and very helpful. We highly recommend this accommodation. It even has plants!!!!
My college-aged daughter and I enjoyed this lovely 1920s era home for two nights. Our family frequently travels, and we always attempt to stay in private residences. This charming home is among our top 5 places in which we've had the privilege to stay. It maintains its lovely historical architecture but has all the modern comforts. Cleanliness and safety are our two priorities, and this home did NOT disappoint. The home was very clean, well appointed, comfortable, and safe. Throughout the home there are well tended live plants. This beautiful touch adds to the feeling that you are truly enjoying a home and not just a place to lay your head during a stop along the road. I was also delighted that Monte called to check in on us and offer some tips about the home and the area. He was extremely cordial and his effort to make us feel at home was most welcomed. We would not hesitate to stay again and if our travels take us to OKC in the future, this is far and away the home in which we would hope to stay.
Wanted to host my sister from out of state, but my home is tiny, in an OKC suburb, and I didn’t want to spend our short visit driving I-35. Perfect solution. The house was roomy with all the comforts of home. I’ve already been recommending to friends!

About the host
Hosted by Monte King
We lived in this home the first 2 years of marriage and even though our lives dictated we move away. We kept the house as a rental since 1982. All four of our grown children have rented it as young adults. We've had long term renters, most good and some bad. We chose not to renew the last lease agreement and reclaimed our home for other people and travelers to enjoy.
Why they chose this property
A historic and eclectic area with friendly neighbors in what historians say is Oklahoma City's first middle class neighborhood. A vintage home in a preserved historic neighborhood built for JC Penneys good friend, Somerville Gilchrist. His first store manager in Oklahoma City. The home is largely preserved as built. Nine foot ceilings and original untouched maple woodwork. Original tile fireplace, hardwood floors and an entry room (for Rose Gilchrists baby grand piano) instead of an open front porch. As soon as you enter you will immediately feel at home.
What makes this property unique
Even if you tried I don't think one could find a more centrally located property in Oklahoma City.
