In 1892 John Thompson Street Brown, bourbon innovator and aristocrat, built this 11,000 square foot Beaux Arts mansion for his large family. Now you can live like a bourbon big shot too! The mansion is elegantly finished throughout with spacious and finely appointed rooms. The Bourbon Big Shot Mansion is located in the heart of our nation’s second-largest National Historic Preservation District, just minutes from downtown and Churchill Downs and convienently located in the center of bourbon country.

Our group of 8 friends stayed at the Bourbon Big Shot Mansion. Beautiful home. Slept 8 of us very comfortably. The hosts were great. Highly recommend this location.
Stayed here with a group of friends for a Bachelor's party and it was the perfect house for our Louisville stay! The Big Shot Bourbon Mansion was super impressive, with what seemed like an endless number rooms and larger than life antique details. Good central location to get to many neighborhoods in Louisville.
This historic home was absolutely beautiful and a wonderful place for my friends and I to stay to celebrate my 50th birthday with a tour of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Plenty of space, very comfortable and a wonderful vibe for the trip. Only feedback would be that the handles on a couple of the showers were not working properly and should be fixed and the hot water temp was way too hot and should be adjusted for safety.
Overall, a beautiful home conveniently located near downtown Louisville, would rent from again for other large party events!
This house is great for larger groups. There were plenty of bedrooms & bathrooms and spaces for the whole group to gather & hang out. 13 of us came to Louisville to run the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon & this was a great location for our stay. It was an easy drive from the airport, to downtown, to Churchill Downs. It is a bit on the noisy side at night, being in a flight path and near a train crossing, but it makes up for it in space and atmosphere! The host greeted us upon arrival & when the door code stopped working he was there quickly to help us get in. If you are looking for a place to stay with a large group, I’d definitely recommend this house.
Myself and 15 others stayed here for a bachelor party.
It was a great place. Plenty of space and room for people to sleep. Plenty of bathrooms and ahowers as well. Indvidual ac units in all the rooms.
And the location is centeally located in Louisville. We went wverywhere from there, and nothing took to long to get to. The operators of the property were very friendly, helpful, and communicated very well. The history of the mansion was also pretty radical.
Overall a great place to stay!
What a phenomenal house! Not only is it enormous (making life so easy on 14 guests), but there are very cozy areas for hanging out and the utilities across the property were perfect. This property also has very cool Bourbon history which ties it in so nicely to bourbon county. The only minor miss was a lower-than-expected number of drinking vessels (water/liquor), but you can always buy plastics nearby. Overall this was a phenomenal stay, 14/14 would recommend.
Fantastic historical home and our host Thomas was super. We came here as 16 adults celebrating a milestone birthday and there was plenty of room for all of us. Wish we would have done the guided walking tour of the neighborhood but ran out of time! Home has all the basic needs covered but could use a few spices in the cabinet for cooking. Thomas lives in the neighborhood so gave us some great recommendations for dining. Would come back again.
This was a great place for a group of 15 to stay! We had enough bedrooms for everyone, everyone had a bed and no one shared rooms with another couple. It was clean and had enough bathrooms. It was very easy to Uber from here to head down to Whiskey Row or ride scooters around town. The host gave a tour with some history of the house which many of our party appreciated! if you're looking for a fun, unique experience in Old Louisville, this house is it!
We had 7 couples stay at the house. Excellent location awesome kitchen and open sitting area for cooking and conversation. 3rd floor loft great for watching sports with a kitchen for beverages. Beds were comfortable. Great Host quick response and when one of the wives left her ear buds he found them and mailed them. Very nice of him
Me and about 13 women stayed here for my bachelorette party. We loved the house and it became one of the main talking points of the trip. It’s beautiful. It has some original finishes from the late 1800s but has been updated where needed, although it maintains the charm of an old mansion. It’s very clean and spacious. It’s not like cramming a bunch of beds into one room so the host can say it sleeps more people. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms so that we felt like we all had plenty of space. The owner is very responsive and will even meet you at check-in to go over the history of the house and to show you how things work. I highly recommend this property.
Owner was fantastic. Place is drafty and hot. Needs better ac units in rooms, especially 3rd floor. The one we were in the ac was really short and literally blew air under the bed. Plus windows have big spaces in them so cold air goes right out. Everything worked as exoected and no bugs. Neighborhood is pretty rough. House is literally next to half way house and had syringes and empty beer bottles where we parked every morning. Inside definitely doesn't match the outside. It is such a pretty place inside that gets ruined by the state of the neighborhood. Owner was very nice and accommodating.
The Big Shot Mansion did not disappoint, as our group was impressed from the moment we arrived. Perfect blend of old school charm and modern amenities. Plenty of room for 10 guys to spread out or gather together. 10 minutes to all Louisville attractions. Host was welcoming and informative. Would love to stay again. Thanks!
I've stayed at this property twice now with groups ranging between 9-12 people and both times have exceeded my expectations. My first stay was for my bachelor party 3 years ago and this past weekend for my future brother-in-law's bachelor party and both were amazing times on the Bourbon Trail.
Check-in was seamless and we thoroughly enjoyed Thomas taking time to give us all a history of the home and original owner JTS Brown. We actually got a bottle of JTS Brown when visiting Heaven Hill!
I will continue to recommend this home to family and friends visiting the area and will probably stay there again myself in the future!
This house is incredible! Great location. Some reviews said the neighborhood was bad, but we thought it was just fine! The host is very helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again.
Our group of 8 men (all over 60) enjoyed having our own rooms and bathrooms and also having a nice gathering room. Due to Covid, it was nice to dine in the spacious dining room. A nice side benefit was the free Shakespeare plays just one block away in Central Park. Wonderful actors and quite a benefit to Louisville during the summer.
We had a great time at the Mansion! It was a great size for our group. We had 6 couples and everyone had their own space. It had two kitchens, which was really nice. The neighborhood is a little seedy, but it’s a really short distance to a lot of things. We took a lot of quick Uber rides to town and airport. Would definitely stay here again! Property manager was very helpful with everything we needed.
Thomas was an amazing host. Really appreciate that he gave me a tour of the property’s history, as we were going to be touring the bourbon trail on the following 3 days. The building was actually owned by JTS Brown whose Bourbon we ended up trying before we left.
The house was pristine, and and had so much room for our entire party (16 guys). Would highly recommend if you want an authentic bourbon trail experience.
The mansion was incredible and perfect for a bachelor party. The house was not only clean, it was updated but still kept the history of the house intact. I would suggest this property to anyone looking to stay with a large group in Louisville!
Used this as a home base for my bachelor party weekend. It was great as the house can pack in a bunch of people but is set up to give everyone the privacy us middle aged folks expect.
Bunch of neighborhood Dads came down for a long weekend to hang out and drink some bourbon. The mansion was great. Really appreciated the specialty glassware when mixing a cocktails, and the kitchens were well stocked with supplies and had top notch appliances for when we cooked in. A nice plus was the city bike rental right behind the property for the couple mile trip into downtown. Scooters were also plentiful for the return ride.
